Her performance was absolutely magnificent. The scene where she breaks down while explaining to Darcy the bad news she had received in the letter, for example, was as perfectly rendered as I believe it was possible for any actress to perform it.

When my daughter had to read P&P in high school, she couldn't get through the dialogue in the book. We used this wonderful production to help her. We'd check the book to find the starting and ending point of the reading for that week, then watch the film to the end point of the reading. It made it so much easier for her to not only read and understand, but to appreciate the dialogue and the humor. Thank you for this amazing piece. I consider virtually everything about this production of Pride & Prejudice to be absolutely perfect, and I will never read this book again without imagining these actors in their respective prose roles. Whoever cast this production should receive an award for selecting the best possible actors for the roles which were characterized in the film. I am also very impressed with the pains taken to remain as faithful to Miss Austin's book as possible. More screenwriter's should approach their mission in a like manner. Costumes, actors, music, production sites .... EVERYTHING ..... was just perfect! Once again thanks for following up the movie with "Lasting Impressions". I believe it is one of the most brilliant period dramas I have ever seen and continue to see. The actors and actresses are fantastic in their roles. Whoever chose the cast is a genious. They are all so perfect. I am not British but I love pride and prejudice and love the English language spoken in the film. I will continue to watch it. Congratulations to all involved in the making of the film which i have seen in video tape, five hours of it at one go, and later on dvd in a series form. WHat is endearing and truly memorable about Darcy and Elizabeth's finally coming together to marry is that they marry (as does Jane) for all the right reasons: mutual respect, affection, and shared interests. Lydia and Wickham are in stark contrast to that.

She loved it and re-watched it over and over again. She said she may need to borrow it again. It,s got to be the best movie of all time. It’s so funny, but during the end credits I kept thinking, “Wait for it....wait for it...,” bc I knew that Elizabeth blowing out the candle was coming to end the sequence! I remember after seeing Emma Thompson’s “Sense and Sensibility,” I wished so much that it hadn’t been a feature film, but had had the same treatment of this “P and P,” six hours long with the gorgeous sets and costumes, and the terrific actors! And then I remember sitting, watching the Kiera Knightley version in the theatre, and thinking, “This just SUCKS! Why is Longbourne so filthy and ugly with those enormous pigs slogging through mud???” I just hated the whole thing, partly bc this version got so many aspects of the novel right

I hate those breeches they are extremely revealing on all the men! I thought I might be just a perv (maybe I am! Lol) but I find them distracting once you notice it you can’t look away!😁

They're talking about ten years after filming - meanwhile when I'm done with this video and done baking cookies, I'm going to go upstairs and finish the series, after I started watching it last night. I live text about it to my brother and SIL, who also love it. It holds up extremely well.

I wish they did some sort of christmass special for the 30th anniversary, with all the cast... You know, Crimbo at Pemberley where they get together for a ball and reminisce about the past thirty years or something like that.

I've read the book more than 50 times so i suppose you could say I'm close to being an expert. I was most certainly not disapointed by this production which is saying really a lot given my total veneration for JA. They really did transmit as much as possible for a screen of JA's intentions and spirit and of course the period, though it was a mite beautified. My only quibble was with Mrs Bennet, a cameo performance but not quite in the role. The production merited every award, excellent location choices/village re-creations, interior atmospheres and furniture, wonderful clothes and their details and of course music. This is my husband's message page so don't blame him!

Ok cast and producers, listen up.
Sure, Jane Austen’s novel is the base …..and what a base, but frankly, the acting is what makes it work for me and as a non English speaking born person, I just marvel at the beauty of the English language so well served by these amazing actors and by that I mean, all the way to the smallest part.
Fantastic job on the producers part. Not surprised people still watch it on and on again…….like I do too.

It's not better than the book because the series used most of the dialogue from the book. If you read the book, you visualize for yourself what the characters look like. Perhaps the series chose actors that, for you, were better than your visualizations.

I absolutely love this movie..Matter of fact, I watch it atleast twice a week!! It is the only movie that I totally love each and every character and how they portray each person!!! Only part I was upset about is when Lydia and Mr. Whitcomb arrive home after the scandalous affair and marriage...That when Lizzy and Whitcomb went for a walk, she did not scold him or quarrel with him about what he had done to the family!! That's ok, because everytime I watch it I tell him what a rat and scoundrel he is!! Lol....Funny thing, my husband watches Mr. Colin's and has nick named him Mr. Bent Fabric, because Colin's is so weird...I Love you all...!!!!!!

I first seen this in 1995 and ever since I revisit it again every so often maybe once every 2or3 years and every rendition that came afterwards paled in comparison to this one (I didn't much like the movie with Kiera Knightly, although I don't mind the actor Matthew Macfadyen, he did a better job playing Mr. Clennam in Little Dorrit though than Darcy) this was the best enactment of Pride and Prejudice in every way but after seeing Colin Firth take on the ridiculous rolesn in Mama Mia and What a Girl Wants it sort of ruined the Darcy character entirely and after that I just stopped watching Colin Firths' movies .

+mnljh711986. I thought Rosamund Pike as Jane Bennett in the film was a much better fit for the part than Susannah Harker and the music and photography in the film were stunning, but overall the TV series was superior in just about every other way. Even the wardrobe and fashions were more realistically accurate. The frisson between Elizabeth Bennett and Mr Darcy in the TV series was much more true to the book also. One small example of the more accurate script was when Lady Catherine comes to the Bennett house: in the TV series she says "You have a very small park" , whereas in the film she says a "very small garden". Of course "park" was the perfect example of Lady Catherine's unwitting 'condescension', which is why Jane Austen used it in the book for its amusement value.

I agree about Keira Knightly and particularly Rosamund Pike. In the book, Jane Bennet is described as something of a beauty, whereas in the TV series, she seems rather plain, mostly due to unflattering hair and makeup. For me, Rosamund Pike's portrayal does a better job of capturing the character of kindness and beauty from the novel.

lol. that's very true. it's very grandiose and imposing yet ridiculous in its ostentatiousness. it's very fitting for Lady Catherine and her so called "affability and condescension." =P
