Alison Steadman looks even younger here than she did as Mrs Bennet!

The actress who plays the mother is so young and beautiful in real life.

In the book it says Ms Bennett was considered a beauty when she was younger. So this actress is also a great Ms Bennett physically.

@@flowerfleur8105 in fact, mrs bennet being only around 40 probably, and as mr bennet told her, she is just as much good looking as her daughters

Alison Steadman is probably my favorite of the performers in a fabulous cast. When I read Mrs. Bennett I hear her delivery, which I think speaks volumes about her understanding of this character. David Bamber is a close 2nd... pretty near perfect.

How Wickham’s actor actually tells stories is very much as Wickham would lol

Love these BTS stories & also lovely to hear that so much of the cast got on so well and had fun working on the production.

Why oh Why, was not this superb impressions overview, placed onto the extras list for the BluRay release.
Extras are always important,to see what the cast thought about their parts in the production, but the emission of this interesting discussion was an opportunity lost.
Had i not accidentally discovered these four great interviews with the cast, i would never have learnt more about my favourite BBC period drama

Charles Bingly looks much more handsome in real life! I think his curly mop of hair in the series didn’t help! Lol

I've seen this delightful documentary a number of times now, and I laugh out loud every time David Bamber describes the wild and crazy night of playing James Taylor over an "extended meal." Thank goodness no one broke out the Joni Mitchell, then Lucy Briers would have gotten even more outraged at the uproar.

So now every time I watch I will be thinking about the proposal scene being shot first. 😩

  • @monmothma3358
    @monmothma3358 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

I don't understand why they couldn't do the first proposal scene later in the shoot if they all felt that would be better? It's not like they depended on a specific location for it, or for many actors to be available at the same time. All they needed was Jennifer, Colin, and a room (which could be anywhere). For the record, I did think the scene turned out excellent. Being scared was appropriate for Darcy's character, I suppose. He seemed terrified!

Make-up, continuity, camera's, lighting, the location (again)... It's very far away from a man with a camera.

Not at all good looking! I would not have chosen him to play G. Wickam !
Certainly not as Miss Austin describes him!
Obviously, they made a mistake during the casting!!

I also thought he was not handsome until I saw how really looked in real life during the actual filming of this version of Pride and Prejudice. He was quite tall and his short hair and light beard showed off his handsome features. In the miniseries, his hair and shaven face did not do him justice. Obviously, he is older now since this was filmed years later. He is also older than Colin Firth. In fact, his older look now is more handsome than the older look of Colin Firth now considering he is older than Colin.

I think it was the character design because he is a handsome man and played Wickham very well. But the Wickham character design seemed too smarmy and sleezy right out the gate. It's probably one of the few complaints I have about this excellent series.
