For me Jane's F-15 and F-22 Lightning 3 was my starting point back in like the 6th grade. I still remember reading that 'flight manual' book they had from cover to cover 🤣

Jane's USNF '97 for me! It's why I still use Navy designations like Vipers.

0:46 Falcon BMS is a modern rewrite of the original Falcon 4.0, and it is constantly being updated. BMS was initially announced in September 2003. Falcon 4.0: Allied Force 1.01 released in 2005. BMS' first production release was 4.32 in late 2011.
There is a Google site about the entire history of the Falcon series from the first game to the current version of BMS.
1:21 Ace Combat Zero came out in 2006. 2005 was when it was announced on Tokyo Game Show.
1:38 DCS: Black Shark definitely came out in 2008.
1:43 Flaming Cliffs 3 for DCS came out in 2012. 2010 was when the first version of the full-fidelity A-10C released.
2:11 Year of the Strike Eagle

In 1998, it was "Falcon 4.0".
    BMS was years later.

My F-15 simulator in 1985 just had four colors: black, blue, gray & green. Only thing differentiating a runway from the rest of green earth was a black rectangle border! Sky was always one shade of blue or gray if you selected bad weather option.

I remember playing long hours of F-18 Hornet 3.0 back in the late 90s. compared to the DCS F/A-18C module... it's pretty amazing how far we came in almost 3 decades. I still have my Suncom SFS stick and throttles for the F-15, wish I could still use them.

Nice. All that was missing was some ARMA.

Chuck Yeager's Air Combat from 1991 is a must have on this list.

As an Australian I won 3 international competitions for skin making in the early 2,000s, won my first in Jan 2001, still making high detailed skins today
Strange that you did not mention Warbirds I, II or III tho... and no mention of Gaijin flight sims / games like War Thunder either

Congrats on the wins! That's awesome. This little montage was in now way meant to be a comprehensive look at flight sims - more a fun montage of where we were to where we are. However, if there's enough interest we can do a deep dive into the history of flight sims.

@@raafdocumentaries I understand that for sure, and we all have been influenced differently by probably 100s of flight sims over the decades... some of the early ones like 1942 forget the name of it now, but it was made by the same people that made Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe, and even for SWOTL I still remember bringing home the P-38 expansion pack on the train... and one I use to play on the C64, was F-15 Strike Eagle... they were very basic sim games back then.... I had always wondered dreamed back then if we would see these sims in more realistic forms

A brief history of the SINGER Link Trainer and its integral training role in Australia would be a good discussion.

@@dindrmindr626 Do you use the 4.14m version? Also I suggest to use the HSFX mod. BTW you can always set the resolution manually by editing the config file.

Make sure you override high-DPI scaling by application in the .exe’s properties. I can play 1946 without scaling issues on Windows 10 and 11. Both vanilla and with BAT.
