    45 min Yoga for Hips, Ankles & Knees, The Niyamas, 8 Limbs of Yoga Series, Yoga with Melissa 225
    This 45 minute intermediate yoga class focuses on the niyamas of the 8 limbs of yoga. he second limb of the eight limbs of yoga are the niyamas. They are purity (saucha), contentment (santosha), discipline (tapas ), self-study (svadhyaya, and surrender to God (Isvara Pranidhana). Yoga is not going to bring you something that is lacking. Through practicing the niyamas you are simply removes the obstacles that prevent your present reality experience of samadhi (union with the divine).
    Again, alignment is an important overarching theme here. When we practice Svadhyaya (study of the self) we have awareness to know what is for our greatest and highest good - physically, mentally, emotionally, energetically, and spiritually. We can practice saucha (cleanliness) by listening to our bodies and eliminating physical, mental, emotional, energetic and spiritual toxins from our lives so that we may experience santosha. This takes tapas/discipline. Through this tapas/discipline we will experience the most amazing grace, an uncovering of the truth of our reality, samadhi. Finally, when we treat our bodies, minds and spirits like the temples that they are, we will have no trouble surrendering our actions to the Divine. Through all of this we will experience the most beautiful alignment and balance.
    How can you balance between santosha (contentment with what is) and tapas (disciplined practice) both in your yoga practice and your everyday life?
    In our physical asanas we will practice aligning our hips, knees and ankles starting with reclined hero pose. Dead bug pose will allow us to release our ankle, knee and hip joints. We will bring awareness to alignment in couch pose and pigeon pose. Lion’s pose is a purifying breath. In standing we will prepare for eagle pose which focuses on all the joints in your body with tree pose. Puppy pose is a wonderful backbend followed by marichyasana twist to release your back and marichyasana forward fold. We will finish with the purifying alternate nostril breathing.
    Props Needed: yoga strap, yoga mat, yoga blocks, yoga bolster
    Yoga Postures/Asanas: Paryankasana/Hero Pose Variation, Dead Bug Pose, Couch Pose/Anantasana, Pigeon/Eka Pada Rajakapotasana, Lion's Pose/Simhasana, Downward Facing Dog/Adho Mukha Svanasana, Tree Pose/Vriksasana, Eagle Pose/Garudasana,, Puppy/Uttana Shishosana, Marichyasana/Marichyasana's Twist, Marichyasana Forward Fold, Alternate Nostril Breathing/Nadi Sodhana
    Asanas focos the hip, knee, ankle and shoulder joints. Yoga philosophy on the eight limbs of yoga focusing on the second limb, the niyamas.

    I really love your classes. I hope to do full hour classes too. This class was very nice and enjoyable. The extra 15minutes were welcome. You're awesome.

      I'm so glad you love the classes. We ran out of battery power that day! :( I like to make sure I offer an hour classes usually. Sometimes it is nice to have a shorter break.       Hi Melissa. I live in Saanich. There are lots of beautiful spots in Victoria for filming. You're going to enjoy discovering them. I'm not sure I'd be a great student for filming, as I'm more a Real Yoga for "Broken" People with my arthritis. There are a lot of postures I have to omit, including forward folds, twists, marked abduction or adduction from my hips, so I would likely appear as I was doing an entirely different class from the instructor at times. Which is why I appreciate finding your on line classes, so I can do them in the privacy of my home, and not appear conspicuous. ;)

    Thank you, Melissa, for another gratifying experience. I'm glad I made myself roll out my yoga mat after an exhausting day. I spent 7 hours on my feet and they are no longer killing me now.
    The message at the end of the video startles me out of savasana every time :)
