After the 2 390 adv, this one is a dream.,👍I know that a lot of people will work hard to sort out a bunch of defects, but I personally think she can be my next one.
To be honest I was expecting less weight like the 690, I may be a bit weight weenie😂. But I guess this is not an enduro proposition and more a dual sport one. Love your channel, keep up with the good job.
Thanks mate, I never had high hopes of the R or Enduro 390 being as light as the 690. They would have had to do a ground up design $$ They took the easy way and built it off the Duke 390. Let’s hope we’re pleasantly surprised next month 😅
Another comment made a good point, that if they're trying to fit the A2 licence (equivalent of the Australian RE licence) then they can't really make the bike any lighter, or it will exceed power to weight ratios.
Experience with the 2nd Gen Duke 390-2016 that actually is a 373cc is that the engine eats oil. Special 15W-50, no less. The piston is short skirt with only 2 piston rings. With a 12.2:1 compression ratio, it's 95 octane as per manual. Am using Petron Blaze 100. And it can't be used as a daily driver with moderate or heavy city traffic. It overheats very easily! Even with 70% Prestone coolant. KTM-Bajaj truly made it really "Ready to Race" with a TFT-boot up reminder. The newest generation (Gen 3) of this engine was revised to 399cc from info gathered. If it still has that ready-to-race piston with that 12.2:1 compression, requiring 15W-50 and 95 octane, its not a bike that will be no-overheat, low octane gas reliable. That said, it is impossible to have the pre-requisite reliability. The old 2nd Gen is definitely, utterly stupidly unreliable.
I had a 2017 Duke 390. No issues with oil consumption, no issues with overheating, though the engine did throw a lot of heat when sitting in traffic. I had it until 2023, and it was perfectly reliable. A buddy who did more commuting on his did the reflash and upgraded the cooling fan, and that solved it.
Spal cooling fan. Slightly adjust the radiator angle. Head cover check and straighten where the gasket sits. Change head gasket. Duke 390 gen 2 never tends to overheats anymore.
I doubt this would help your case but you don't want to increase your coolant/water ratio for "better" cooling. Pure water is the best for heat transfer. Ideally you want to run the lowest amount of coolant required to protect against freezing in your location. Coolant is for lowering the freeze point, raising the boiling point, corrosion protection and to some extent seal lubrication. The pressure in a cooling system is enough to prevent boiling at normal operating temps, a 1.2 bar cap will move the boiling point of pure water to around 240f.
Bought a 1290 sas 2023 , never going to buy KTM ever again, abs pump issue causing panic brake randomly, started to have coolant lost 250ml in 4 days and counting , paint peeling everywhere on the clutch bracket and reservoir , battery drain issue , between 50-80km the steering will wobble uncontrollably , if you let go and will also go right instead of straight. There was also a chemical / electrical smell when starting in the garage KTM dealer said everything was "normal" . F them , i traded it and never looking back , lost thousands but that was better then keeping it. Dangerous bike. Believe everything you see in forums about KTM , it’s not exaggerated. Extremely unreliable!
I think KTM missed the mark with the updated 390. They should have adventurized and updated the 690/701 platform instead. Also I think the estimated 170 kilos is boarder line heavy.
I bought a new 390 back 2020 is a great small adventure bike so looking fwd to seeing this in the show room very interesting Low exhaust is great for rackless luggage bags rear tray and protection bars and it’s spot on
It might be a good 2nd offroad bike. We recently bought CFmoto 450MT which is very very good, but it still has some kind of bulky plastics. This one looks the same offroad oriented, but maybe a bit more prepared for drops :-D I would definietaly consider this as second bike for abusing rides :D
Ugh... I can get a good end-of-season deal on a DR650 to project-build over the winter or wait until spring for this or a tubeless Himi 450. My Gen 3 KLR is just too heavy off road, and the DR650 I used to have felt lacking on road. I personally welcome 180kg with this setup... it seems like it would bridge the gap for what I am looking for. I don't want to keep waiting though!
Toss up between this and the dr, if you are ok with 180kg. Wouldnt mess with ibex or himi, too heavy. Not sure what u didnt like about the DR on the road but a cushy seat and windscreen did wonders for me. U can use outex for tubeless conversion on DR.
I Don't really see the Himalayan as a serious contender... more of a Niche bike. The real battle is this vs the 450MT.... I think it dominates on performance. At least 20 or 25KG lighter, and with better suspension and bit more punch. Also has cruise control. Price... I dont think they can beat the MT. I'm thinking $7500-$8000 US
@@dustinanderson4809 if you're looking at spec sheets you may be right but on sales, the Himalayan is King of the Castle and has to be taken into account
unfortunately if that is the weight, I'll still be sticking with my DR650. 366 pounds wet and with after market battery tank and exhaust as well a few things taken off, she can get as low as 345 pounds.
I was waiting for this bike but KTM has taken too long [and even today we still don't know the spec] so I (and many others) went for the 450MT and I'm loving it. Picking up the MT on trails is one thing but the MT carries that weight so well while riding it, I don't care much about the weight factor. Of course, it would be better if it was 20kg lighter but not losing any sleep over it. For KTM, unfortunately, 'better late than never' won't apply to me.
Thanks for the spy shots, Solid. weird that that exhaust is so low, but maybe that's not the final product. Regarding weight, I think if they even kept it to 400 lb it would still be wildly popular. 30 plus pounds lighter than its competition and 50 lb lighter than a Tenere. Keeping something light adds cost, so that's something they need to keep in mind. I think this bike will be on the more value side of the spectrum, which will come with some concessions.
Thanks for your trustworthy coverage. I ride an adventurized 450exc and it's a bit of a mongrel on the roads. I'm keen to have a ride of the new 390, may be good for my gravel road adv/travel rides and just leave the exc on hand for the extreme single track, dunes, beach and banksi scrub
Not a fan of that front guard shape or the very high screen but overall it looks the goods. If its got 300mm of clearance and suspension travel and is around 160Kg wet it should be a big winner. Not sold on the exhaust for being practical off road, Id rather a slip on with integrated cat that could be changed easy for something like a wings or acro slip on. Im guessing 12-15 grand
@@mikeisland7382 I really do like almost everything about it. I'm probably going to get the new safari tanks. Once the center of gravity is a bit lower the T7 is gonna be pretty damned slick. It's honestly not bad as is.
@@212driller That will likely be a worthwhile upgrade. The ATV industry made the switch years ago and no one mounts a tank up top anymore. 890 flickability with Yamaha dependability 👍
If the price is right, based off the CF Moto these will be very popular, if they prove reliable. It’ll likely be made by Baja so hopefully more reliable than the 7/890’s. 390 so minimum electronics so KTM won’t bend you over backwards and lock you out after 1,500km and ask for more money to unlock your bike again.
Looks great. The big question mark in my mind though is what the ground clearance is going to be. The single biggest concern I have riding my 390 off-road is the relatively low ground clearance. Well, that and the skid plate, but the skid plate can be fixed with aftermarket parts. There's no aftermarket solution I'm aware of for the ground clearance.
Yeah man It looks great Two questions, fuel capacity…? And surely they’ll have high exhaust option..? Can’t wait to see one in person and take it for a spin. Don’t see why cams would be a problem as you say the current models don’t have any real issues… Suspension is gonna be interesting as I think some guys are gonna wanna push this bike… Bring it and on😎👍 And obviously I am sure we would all like to see a 690 version… a long overdue replacement to the original 640 Adv😎😎👌
Been holding my breath on this one since you first reported it Solid! Its not gonna replace my EXCF but no light ADV/Enduro has much chance of that. It they can keep the weight and price respectable I might still go for it, as it would add another dimension to my riding that I can't get with the EXCF, and if it is lighter than the CFMoto or RE offerings I think it will sell really well. I'd take the enduro version, it should be a couple pounds lighter at least. My short-lived experience this year with a CRF250Rally showed me that a ~350-lb bike is manageable in a most moderate off-road conditions but good suspension and more power would have made a big difference...and the 390 will satiety those I'm quite sure.
I’m excited for all the new 390s. I have a Duke 390 for the city and I wish I had more suspension travel to soak up rough pavement. The smc r or this adventure r are bikes I will consider as my next bike.

It wil not be lighter than 165kg dry if it has 45HP(33kW) becasue os A2 power/weight restriction. It would be stupid for KTM to not make it A2 compliant and loose potential sales.
I’ve been waiting for this bike for so long but now I can’t see past the Kove 450 rally… Is it just me or does the Kove have this beat in almost every aspect? But damn, I would love cruise control-

I love this bike. I think it’s going to sell well and do real good things for KTM. And as far as the position of the exhaust-do you all know what the function of an exhaust is?! You cannot really compare it to a 500EXC. Different purpose (do it all bike, and it is just fantastic on that) long service intervals. For me they could make it a bit slower in top speed (ie. max 170-180km/h), so they could make it shorter and more nimble.
If they regulate the bike for the stupid A2 license restrictions, it HAS to be heavy to conform with max power/weight ratio. Horrible times for motorbikes, destroyed by emissions and A2.
Holy crap, didnt realize this a2 license power to weight rule… thats absolutely horrible. Actually - checked this out for the 2024 duke and it seems like a non issue. The 390 adv could go on a diet down to 165kg (same weight as the duke) and still be A2 ready. So plenty of weight to lose if ktm wanted to. Perhaps this rule is based on dry weight. Still since this model is based on the duke platform, who knows how light they would have made the duke if this rule didnt exist, and then the adv would be that much lighter… ugh.
@@Weltbummler23 If manufacturers wanted to be legal but also beneficial for customers, they would make the bikes light and then add weights where you could easily remove them (exhausts, tail tidy or whatever). A2 riders, please wait a couple of years to drive the bike of your dreams and don't destroy the market! Finally heading in the right direction 🙌
Haha no they aren't
Finally, KTM is releasing a long-awaited bike, and I really hope they price it competitively with the MT450-there’s no reason it should cost more. Plus, it’s worth noting that KTM hasn’t had any cam issues with the 390 engine (at least, not yet ;-) ).
After the 2 390 adv, this one is a dream.,👍I know that a lot of people will work hard to sort out a bunch of defects, but I personally think she can be my next one.
Never once cared about a display on a motorcycle.
@@chroniclesofsolid
It is still a single cylinder bike so it really shouldn't weigh much more than a 690.
Another comment made a good point, that if they're trying to fit the A2 licence (equivalent of the Australian RE licence) then they can't really make the bike any lighter, or it will exceed power to weight ratios.
@@harowerks44the extra weight is in the frame, not really the engine.
@@lonecoyote5454
20-30 kgs extra in a frame?
I'm eagerly waiting for this bike and the variants, it's possible this will be my first Enduro/dual sport/ADV and second bike in the garage!
If they conform to the stupid A2 license, they can't make it lighter due to max power/weight ratio limit.
Way different price points, and those machines are like comparing apples and oranges.
I bought a new 390 back 2020 is a great small adventure bike so looking fwd to seeing this in the show room very interesting
Low exhaust is great for rackless luggage bags rear tray and protection bars and it’s spot on
Why is the exhaust on the floor?
Adventure ready x)
Exactly
They nailed the looks this time!
The low exhaust helps with center of gravity. Disappointed they didn't go with the saddle gas tanks though. It's brilliant on my 790 Adv.
It’ll have to do well on weight and price to take on the Himalayan and CF Moto 450 MT. Hopefully it’ll be under 175kgs wet and priced aggressively
Agreed
@@cassial777 🥱
So late in the game with all the new small adv. What about the enduro R 390? Need weight 300lbs or less max. I stop waiting and bought a DR650
It looks pretty good.
If it’s 170kgs it will be on the money I recon.
Great to have so many choices in this class now.
Ride safe 👍
I was hoping to have the fuel tank low like the KTM 790 Adventure it would carry its weight very low.
Looks great. This is unicorn material for a lot of us. I would be thinking really hard before i sold my T7 to get this though. I love the T7 so much.
It would be hard to give up all that T7 torque, bike doesn't ever seem to care what gear you have it in.
Man, nice I hope that's not the graphics it's gonna come in !
Significantly more than the current version.
You can see the rebound damping adjuster on the rear shock.
Yeah man
It looks great
Two questions, fuel capacity…?
And surely they’ll have high exhaust option..?
Can’t wait to see one in person and take it for a spin.
Don’t see why cams would be a problem as you say the current models don’t have any real issues…
Suspension is gonna be interesting as I think some guys are gonna wanna push this bike…
Bring it and on😎👍
And obviously I am sure we would all like to see a 690 version… a long overdue replacement to the original 640 Adv😎😎👌
Nice video! This looks promising!
4 years is a long time to hold your breath 😅 it would make a great companion bike to your EXCF 👍
I’m excited for all the new 390s. I have a Duke 390 for the city and I wish I had more suspension travel to soak up rough pavement. The smc r or this adventure r are bikes I will consider as my next bike.
newbe question I cant seem to google the answer for. If this is announced this month at the show, when could someone expect to be buying/ridding it ? I know with some things you see them at shows and its almost a year before they are in the store and other things its pretty much instant. also no idea if with something like this you would expect to wait in line/pre order? thanks
Looks good, but as I feared from the spy shots, it's basically just a dressed up Duke. Wish it had rally fuel tanks, perhaps Rade Garage or Aurora will make something.
That exaust should lend the bike to having full equal luggage both sides. For me it will be price and what extras aren't subscription paid.
Demo exhaust.
But damn, I would love cruise control-
The kove is nothing like this bike
Will the price be reasonable or be inflated to cover the upgrades will it be able to compete withe the ibex 450MT or RE Himalayan 450??
no I'm more interested in the rumours of a new drz
love the low exhaust, frees up the back to have narrow pannier mount options. great power and weight even if the weight is 180kg. wonder about range.
vibration issues?? Compare it to the Husqvarna 350 or FE500 S, please!
Same same as all the other 390 KTM thumpers I'd assume
@@tolga1cool I see… So better go with Husqvarna in 2025!
Whats with the Non adjustable periscope Pipe?
Weight will be the criticle factor for remote riders, particularly the low slung exhaust.
KTM Guys : I wud never buy an ADV bike with exhaust exposed underneath.
Also KTM Guys : OMG that exhaust is so trick! Genius!
this looks pretty cool but i still think im going for the 450mt
This is exactly the kind of small adv I've been waiting for.
Hey Solid, you must have seen all the production photos from sites like Bike Wale of 3 models using this platform. Also have you seen the new Aprillia Tuareg 450 adventure/rally they’ve been racing, looks like a production ready bike and would be something else if their 660 is anything to go by.
Yeah mate, my inbox is jammed full of them! I'll be coving it all end of next week. Very exciting
👍
Looks like an ideal entry-level adv bike. Where do I sign up?
Ha that's cute KTM. I was hoping it would be lightweight and have good suspension. I'll go get a Kove 450 rally now.
They shouldn't have scrapped the planned 490 twin...
The 390 motor just doesn't quite have enough power to ride on freeways - uphill, into the wind, no chance of reaching the speed limit.
You obviously haven't ridden one then..it has more power than a 450 kove
@@appymarley 44 hp < 51 hp. *shrug.
You're saying the 390 adv has a higher top speed than the Kove, despite having ~14% less power, stock for stock? That'd be a bummer.
low exhaust could mean they are trying to reach 160kgs??? also it would not burn your luggage and it would keep your rear tire warm for turning right...
Looks good but now I own a 450 Himalayan
Ktm dazzle camo on point 💪
Really looking forward to this one
I love this bike. I think it’s going to sell well and do real good things for KTM.
And as far as the position of the exhaust-do you all know what the function of an exhaust is?! It is to EXHAUST the frickin exhaust from the engine! If hot gasses are coming out of the pipe, you can’t have cold water going in! Has no one in this comments section ever farted in the bathtub before?! You can run your bike with the exhaust under water all day long if you want to without hurting anything.
More versatile options in this weight range is good for the genre. I’m looking forward to seeing the rrp.
It looks like the DRZ we have all been waiting for! 😄
I hope the seat height is lower than the current version! It looks promising. I had the CFMoto, and it was okay. I want to see the major players come out to compete for this large gap in the market!
Looks great in this sgmant, but I am waiting to see the 990 but only if they have upped oil flow.
I do ADV Touring so long haul days I dont want to continually have to rev the motor. eg 14T CF450MT. Its funny but both this bike and the new RE weigh in heavier than my original 80g/s
Hey Solid, looks like your 2025 tenere predictions were true with the recent reveals by Yamaha
but travel suspension seems 150 mm IMHO too short.
Is this chassis a good size for someone that is 6'2"?
Will it have low end torque
cant wait to see the enduro version
Theres a video getting round of it punching airs up a highclimb after that photo was taken.
Looks better than my 2018 390 Duke.
What will be the seat height?
Just give me a 690 adventure already
Shit gear box and fueling. Piss weak clutch as well. Plus over priced....hated mine.
@@twowheelpilot use proppar boots instead of school boy sneakers, and change/flash ECU
@@chiboreache What? What's footwear got to do with the price of milk. I used Sidicross fire SRS is you really want to know and Forma Predator. Flash what you want, but the gearbox is an issue. It's a Super Moto gearbox, hence first being silly high for a off road and top so low. Makes sense in an SM so you can launch and have the bike rev out fully at the top. Absolutely wrong for off road. Another reason why so many 690/700/701 one models roast clutches along with the SM slipper clutch. Rather have a twin or a KTM 500 EXC for off road. The 690 is something of nothing. (For me)
@@twowheelpilot Bad fueling is due to euro5 emissions and affects all motorcycles. Corrected with a flash/ECU. Weak clutch was mainly on some 20/21models. Gearbox is indeed a bit too high but this is a dual sport, and a bluddy amazing dualsport. Dream engine and chassis. Gear it very short and it will be much better. You cannot really compare it to a 500EXC. Different purpose (do it all bike, and it is just fantastic on that) long service intervals. For me they could make it a bit slower in top speed (ie. max 170-180km/h), so they could make it shorter and more nimble.
one am keeping my eye on for sure.
It will be probably the second small adv which doesn't weigh a metric ton (after CRF300 Rally)
Tube wheels the see on a photo that the front wheel is damaged.
If they regulate the bike for the stupid A2 license restrictions, it HAS to be heavy to conform with max power/weight ratio. Horrible times for motorbikes, destroyed by emissions and A2.
Yup! *shakes fist at the sky*
But the problem i think is that they use the excuse and design cheaper and heavier. As if everybody with a full license want a 200HP beast and not a proper 400cc bike with long service intervals, grunt and lightweight. A2 riders, please wait a couple of years to drive the bike of your dreams and don't destroy the market!
So if Duke is 165Kg and EnduroADV is on the same platform, the extra ADV parts raise the weight, which cannot be lowered due to the platform logic. Same with the simple enduro version which would nornally be max 130Kg in 2024... A 2009 KLX 250S i own is stock 118Kg dry with upside down, 29HP blatant reliability and long service intervals... Manufactured 16 years ago...
It's heavier because it is built to a cost. No one would buy this if it were priced higher. Bet you'll be able to shed a lot of weight through aftermarket.
@@constantinosschinas4503 yup the platform economics is gonna keep all the 390 bike’s weights high… furthermore what these lawmakers dont seem to understand is that heavy bikes can be dangerous for beginners, especially when taken offroad. I get that the lawmakers are concerned with putting 40hp on a bicycle but settting the threshold where it is now is outright dangerous.
I wish solid would make a video about this beginner bike + heavy weight issue.
Love my Beta Alp 4.0 (old model) w/ a great Suzuki engine, lightweight, cheap, not all the probs KTM has.
I ❤ my 690SMCR but I think I’ll have a 390 next year too. 🥰
Will there be a 250 version of it? Will be happy to own that. Going by KTM standards it's likely to come atleast in India.
for some reason, I'm interested in the moto marini stuff. Its a bit heavier, but a few thousand dollars cheaper. trade off for sure.
CF Moto Partnership is working , The MT 450 is doing good its Out of stock in europe and Australia
with that low exhaust pipe, can anyone tell me if it still ride through water? i used honda xr for in the tropical wild terrain and sometimes i has to ride through water.
If they can get a 390hp into a 300 sized bike that 400 will be the sweet spot.
Nobody could handle 390hp, but most could handle 390cc.😂
The 390 and Z400 are already that, barely weigh more than a 300.
I think you hit the nail on the head, this is a competitor to the Himalayan and the CF Moto 450.
I’m sure there will be a aftermarket exhaust solution. I just wish they had gone more down the CRF 300 Rally route in terms of weight
But will coust double of 450mt
