I saw one of these whilst my Spanish wife and I were over visiting the in-laws in Spain this past summer in a town we were visting. And I must admit I was lusting after one. It genuinely is a very cool car. But, lets be honest, most cool cars, or limited cars or supercars are hard to live with, hard and expensive to maintain, and often make little to no sense to own. They are a "heart purchase/ desire". I was shocked to see (as I googled) that these Phase 2 cars exchange hands on the continent on classic car websites for well north of €60,000 for a really good example!!
J needs to drive a Monaro 6litre VXR if he wants to be amazed. Super car performance, good handling, amazing noise, aggressive looks and a mystique about them when de-badged. My red one continues to get people asking ‘what the hell is that’, even in Sloane Square on a Saturday among all the Ferrari’s and Lambo’s. They are also reliable, low cost to maintain and I will continue to refuse offers on mine, it must stay in family. Who wouldn’t when only around 355 6l VXR’s (121 in Red) were produced up to production ending in 2007. Best investment potential car I’ve owned.
They’re ace. Yes, they’re a big shit but there is just something about them. The idea of shoving the V6 into a Clio is bonkers and I’m so glad that they did it.
Always liked these but not sure I'd want to live with one? Saw loads of them at the Renault World Series events they used to do a few years back. Each one of them completely different, in regards to how they were put together. Even worse than the usual French build quality, but with some decent pipes and an induction kit on they do sound mega
Jamie could you do a video about the new transit GT and the check the price and standard van is a bout £18500 a GT is about £37k with no engine modifations what so ever just body kit and leather a big difference between them considering they are both the same a transit , as I was looking to buy one of the GT transits
Remember the Audi A2 3L? VAG heard Renault were making a 3 litre Clio and rushed around sorting that out to compete with it. Unless I've been lied to by a credible source. I keep hearing something like the turbine whine from Knight Rider
Owning a Clio 2 myself these are the holy grail, albeit mine is a 65 hp turbo diesel but hey ho I deliver 📦 to a guy with a black v6 ph2 just like this one 😍

I was always tempted to get one when they were around 18k. Wish I still did, not practical in any way but very special
There should be a test between this and the Festive Shogun.
Good luck finding one, there was like 7 made.
@@ELGlueckert, Jay Leno has one. Maybe he can do a comparison.
Some great cars on these recent reviews 👍
Just to continue on with the Renault theme, have you driven a Renault Sport Spider yet?
Good vid series. Little bit of constructive criticism is that I would like a bit more in depth out of the car, not just a behind the wheel review.
Really glad you did one of these I've wondered for years what they were like to drive. Nice to know to steer clear !
My boss wants a supercar for around this money that causes a scene everywhere it goes and will suit him as a short guy maybe a clio v6 is the way haha
best looking hot hatch to date, especially in blue
Remember having one these at workshop and finding turning circle would give the titanic a run for its money.
FYI the wheel is not exactly factory either- it’s from a Clio 3. 197/200 variety. Common upgrade as it’s a smaller wheel then the 172/182!
One of my attainable dream cars
They’re ace. Yes, they’re a big shit but there is just something about them. The idea of shoving the V6 into a Clio is bonkers and I’m so glad that they did it.
Worth every penny
Great car review as Normal glad i watched this as I have always fancied one
Always liked these but not sure I'd want to live with one? Saw loads of them at the Renault World Series events they used to do a few years back. Each one of them completely different, in regards to how they were put together. Even worse than the usual French build quality, but with some decent pipes and an induction kit on they do sound mega
I liked before I even started watching :)
Who remembers the v12 golf?
Jamie could you do a video about the new transit GT and the check the price and standard van is a bout £18500 a GT is about £37k with no engine modifations what so ever just body kit and leather a big difference between them considering they are both the same a transit , as I was looking to buy one of the GT transits
Although ifs a crazy idea, yes, it's the second crazy car Renault they made. The Espace F1 always takes the cake.
Someone at Renault saw the Austin metro 6r4 and said hold my beer.
Hold my croissant...and the 6R4 is, imo, even madder.
S Hopkins lol the 6r4 would destroy this wannabe.
It was made because the engineers loved the Renault T5 made in the early 80’s
This car is amazing,a thing of beauty
Remember the Audi A2 3L? VAG heard Renault were making a 3 litre Clio and rushed around sorting that out to compete with it. Unless I've been lied to by a credible source.
I keep hearing something like the turbine whine from Knight Rider
It sounds like one of those "nice but I dont believe it" stories. Still:

Love that car. Good stuff👍
Its might not be perfect car but for me it is
A very curious car. Same basic engine as a 406 Coupé (although heavily modified), and weighs almost as much. That 13m turning circle...
Ph1. Just used the exact same L7X engine. Ph.2 Were modified and tuned by Porsche, inc new Inlet manifold and Cams.
This is a pretty cool collection
That engine sounds epic
Owning a Clio 2 myself these are the holy grail, albeit mine is a 65 hp turbo diesel but hey ho
I deliver 📦 to a guy with a black v6 ph2 just like this one 😍
There is a Blue Clio V6 ph2 in my area, see it occasionally. Reg plate is "V6 O Wow". pretty cool !
Will you be reviewing the Clio 197/200 anytime soon?
Brilliant car handling is fantastic and would love one
I'm not sure where you got the idea the handling is fantastic! It's a short wheelbase, mid-engined car whose main handling characteristic is to take every opportunity to spin around and hit something...but I still love it.
elephant in the room, it's french! it's a great looking car and on the drive by it sounds great.
I remember seeing a line of nearly new Phase 2s at a Renault dealership circa 2005 up for £13995. Hindsight is a wonderful thing 😂
Low mileage ones are £60,000+ now
"and fun, up until the point its not fun" 😂 Great line.
I always liked the look of these cars Jay
Me too
@@JayEmmOnCars I know you have 10 billion subs. So if you don't reply I won't be offended but. Thinking of an old mx5 mark one or two. Are they good buys and fun to drive? And do you use go pros for all your driving car shots etc?
@@t-lawsfitness6044 they are a lot of fun indeed, but there are lots of bad ones out there.
For exterior car shots I use Sony action cams, my main camera is a Panasonic GH5
@@JayEmmOnCars I appreciate the response. As a Britt living state side I enjoy watching the channel and the officially gassed channel also to get some non American car reviews and some reviews on yanky cars that are not biased towards them 👏🏾
Strikes me as a car you need a very close mate or family member to buy,so you get the benifit of enjoying it,but not the pain of owning it.
Sounds cool in the drive byes 👍
0:42 how good that looks
What size are those wheels?
Can they fit in my standart clio?
Clio Phase 1 = 17"
Clio Phase 2 = 18"
same Optik
I'm not sure what the size is, but the standard Clio has 4 wheel nuts whereas these have 5.. so no they won't fit at all sadly!
I had 2 GT Turbos then a Williams Clio. A V6 Clio was (and still is) my ultimate want but I moved to Australia before it was affordable for me at the time. I understand the poor review ie. too slow but just look at it.. it's BEAUTIFUL. I do recall the Clarkson Top Gear review on phase 2 and I beleive he said it was in his top 10??.. Anyways he loved it. I just wish Renault would have made it a real monster by squeezing a turbo in there?! Silver on blue colour best by miles BTW.
Larger turning circle than a Lamborghini Murcielago. I like that stat lol it's a small hatchback which does a 3 point turn worse than an 80 centimetre longer V12 powered supercar.
I love these cars! A truly incredible but very scary idea, SWB rear drive and decent power. This is what the Golf VR6 should have been.
Oh dear, I made that comment BEFORE hearing your take on it. I'd still love one though haha!
I do like these.......but........given the choice I’d rather have a Renault turbo 2
