    My son doesn't care for mayonnaise based coleslaw, so I'm excited to try this with our BBQ pulled pork sandwiches this week! Thank you!

    I'm in Salisbury, NC and this has always been my favorite red slaw recipe. By the way, try using a little barbecue sauce instead of hot sauce and celery seeds. "Mm! Mm! Good!"

      Alan Morris you asked about a close up of the dish. I ‘m just a home cook and my hubby uses his camera and I phone to make the videos. Nothing at all professional about our productions. Sometimes, we forget to take a picture or do something else. In our kitchen, I only get one take and I’m actually making something for our dinner.

    I'm from NC but have lived in florida the past 5 years. Ive resorted to making my own NC style BBQ at home bc its not easy to find here. I made this slaw last time and it was delicious. Will be making again soon.

      Unfortunately it's getting harder & harder to find True Southren Food down here as most restaurants are owned / managed by Nothren Folk , If'n you can get out where there's far less build up an find some Mom & Pop places still open that's where you will find Real Food .
      The Florida I grew up in is no more sadly . Even just as of recent they say 500 families a day are moving down here .

    If you live over here in or near Lexington you have to use Texas Pete hot sauce made in Winston-Salem NC. Thanks for a great video.

    • @sissyjollie
      @sissyjollie 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I lived near Lexington, I would just grab some slaw already made at a restaurant along with the best BBQ in the world. I use Chipotle Tabasco for the smoky, spicy flavor it imparts. It works great as a side dish with most anything not just BBQ. We use lots of Texas Pete in our kitchen, just not in this recipe.

    • @robertbrawley5048

      I just can't imagine Texas Pete . I don't like and tomato based hot sauce. I just don't get it . I like just red pepper powder if that.

    Thanks for your post. I grew up in Lexington, NC and since Uncle Sam took me away it has been ages since I had good BBQ slaw. I always thought they used Texas Pete Hot Sauce in Lexington. When I saw you using Tabasco Sauce my taste buds were already giving me an unpleasant taste in my mouth. But your enthusiasm for the smoky chipotle makes me wonder if I should try it even though Tabasco does not normally complement any food I eat. Always good to try something new and thanks to you I believe I will. Enjoyed your video.

      w glassiter I am not a fan of regular Tabasco either. I’m a Texas Pete girl but in this particular case give the Chipotle Tabasco a try. I’m sure you’ll love it! Remember though, if you are a Texas Pete fan, by all means use it!

    I worked in Lexington BBQ restaurants for quite some time in my younger days. I also made a ton of red slaw. Don't ever recall using chipotle tabasco sauce. But if you like the bite that's ok. If you like the bite... might say add some chopped jalopeno

    • @sissyjollie
      @sissyjollie 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      SilverBulletGhOsT we really like the little bit of smokiness and the spice from the Chipotle Tabasco. When at Lexington BBQ, I always add a little Texas Pete to my slaw and the Q!

    Interesting twist as we have never added tabasco in any of the BBQ restaurants in Lexington.

    • @beetlehound
      @beetlehound 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      When we make the slaw in the restaurant, the key is to grinding the cabbage and keeping it chunky. If you grind it too fine it will be watery. Once we have the cabbage cut, we add the salt, pepper and sugar. Mix it in really good. Then we add the ketchup and vinegar and mix it in good. Hard to use exact measurements as all cabbage absorbs ingredients differently. We usually add a little, mix and then add more as needed. There is no spicy or smoke flavored anything added as that smoke flavor comes from the BBQ.

    • @sissyjollie
      @sissyjollie 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brigmann Bailey, I use the Chipotle Tabasco for the smokey flavor that is missing in the absence of BBQ. I make it as a side dish to go with all sorts of foods.

    Can you substitute sweetener for the sugar

    • @sissyjollie

  • @DefSquadFan
    @DefSquadFan 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Why do you use Chipotle Hot sauce instead of regular tobasco? The Lexington BBQ restuarants dont use that? So you skip the red pepper flakes?

    • @sissyjollie
      @sissyjollie 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use the Chipotle sauce for the smoky flavor it imparts. If I’m serving this alongside BBQ, I could use pepper flakes and\or Texas Pete, but I make it to eat with everything. I’m not in an area with lots of great BBQ restaurants and definitely no red slaw.
