    Great video, really simple and not overly produced. I picked up one of the carbines last weekend at a show. It was marked $1100. I traded into it at a cost of about $800. No regrets. My brother had one years ago and it got stolen. I always wanted one. Mine was made in 1963 and is my go to weapon. It has replaced my AK47 as my ranch gun.

    Bought one made in 1962 in the mid 80's. It had a problem with dropping rounds from the tube under recoil. I sent it back to Ruger and they repaired at no charge; great service.

    I agree that these are quite sought-after whenever I'm at local gun shows. Ruger could sell a bunch of these as handy non-AR home guns, especially to folks in New York, Massachusetts, and California! I'd rather have one of these than an AR or Mini-14, less attention gathering but just as reassuring.
    Yep, sure wish Ruger would reissue these (blue/walnut and stainless/synthetic - both flavors!). Great video!

    My uncle had one he used mostly to shoot coyotes with on a small cattle ranch. It had a fair scope and he also hunted deer with it. For a year it was mine as I rid the area of coyotes when he got ill and couldn't do it himself. It was a really nice handling, easy to operate rifle. Dependable because it served its purpose flawlessly in rough conditions, all types of weather. The caliber was effective and nothing hit ever got up again. I'd also recommend it. I'm no Ruger fanatic but there are some excellent designs for 'working' pieces.

    My Father had one of these. He bought it after the Detroit riots in 1967. I was still in my Mother's belly. He bought it with the leather sling. It was bought from Sears, Roebuck & Co for $108. I took it to an indoor range in California back in 1988. Of course, they thought it was a 10/22 until I fired it. Everyone wanted to try it. I remember a big long flame coming out of the muzzle. We always had jacketed hollow points. If you make an OK sign with your hand, the bullet expansion was about 3/4 that size. It claimed one charging bear. I wish I had one.

      It’s ok if it’s a few times but it’s certainly not a good thing to do on older semi auto rifles or 1911’s.
      It’s ok on most modern designed guns.
      IE
      Glocks and AR’s variants can handle it all day long as well as others.
      But out of habit I just don’t do it to any of my firearms.

    This is a question did the Ruger company ever produce a 30 carbine chambered the same as a m1 carbine with the same astectics of the 44 Deerfield ?🤔😏 my opinion is that the 30m1 carbine bullet shoots a flatter trajectory and would offer more versatile bullets for penetration or expansion !

      @UnitedStatesOfGuns  27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for your note. I checked some time ago for other viewers with the same idea. There's no record of such a Ruger - good idea though. Probably a lot of Ruger Deerfield/Carbine buyers are deer hunters; many believe the .30 carbine is not powerful enough and may be restricted in some areas due to energy limits. I learned from people writing me that the .30 Carbine is used for game at shorter ranges and remains a very popular cartridge - that one doesn't hear much about. One fellow had a Howa Mini re-built into .30 Carbine - great idea but much work. Maybe it's a single shot. All the best.

    The 180 grain bullet is better than the 240 grain, for this gun. The lighter bullet accelerates down the barrel faster, to a higher velocity, but still burns all the powder before exiting the longer barrel. In short barrel hanguns, the heavier bullet is better. A short barrel leaves much of the powder unburned when the lighter bullet exits the end of the barrel.

    Very nice beautiful little carbine. I was thinking about getting one and with my research I came across the new 99/44 deerslayer with a factory aperture sight system. Looks like a different action? What's your opinion the new versus the old? The aperture on the new one is nicebut there's plenty of aftermarket to put an aperture on the old one. Do you know if these are only rated to factory ammunition? Do you feel that they would be safe for + p + like the hot Buffalo bore ammo? I believe 200 yards would be fine. Buffalo bore advertisers there deer grenade ammo will completely pass through a deer at 1100 feet-per-second which according to their trajectory chart for their ammo takes you out to 250 yards. Not that I would try to push it that far. I was thinking this would be the perfect little rifle in the hundred-yard range. Thanks I always enjoy your videos I appreciate your information.

      Hi Brian - the 99/44 Deerfield was like a Mini-14 but adapted to the .44 Magnum. Wonderful carbine and collectors are after them. I like the original better though. The tubular magazine and the compactness, lightness and accuracy of the Ruger 44 Carbine are legend - and hunters and collectors are after those as well. I still hunt with my Ruger 44 Carbine. As for ammo preferences - I would stick with factory jacketed ammo - the hot loads would likely work but are hard on an action that operates on gas. I usually use the .44 Magnum at under 100 - but it works further I guess. Thanks for being on the channel - and for writing.

      I ran some interesting numbers on American eagle 44 Magnum. If you add 400 fps for the barrel length based on test I have seen pistol vs carbine. I put the numbers in a trajectory calculator. With the carbine you still have factory 1250 velocity at 150. So a 200-yard shot with the carbine would be equivalent to a 50 yard shot with a 6-inch pistol. It's amazing how much a cartridge changes. Thanks Mike 👍

    man ide load up a ton of Elmer kith loads and shoot that one as often as i could! those loads are pretty stout and should do what you need them to if you do your part and shot placement is true you should be good to go! ide not recommend it for 500 yard shots across canyons but its great for hogs up close! i wish ruger would re do this in 350 legend and 450 bushmaster 458 socom or maby even 300blk they would sell!

      Ruger recommends using 240 grain rounds. I have two of these and have used 240 gr American Eagle jacketed hollow points (brass) since I was 10yrs old and have never had an issue. That's what my grandpa bought for me to use so I used them. Just this year I had a box of 240 gr Blazer Aluminum rounds that someone gave me. Tried a few rounds when sighting it in before WI gun-deer season and they wouldn't even cycle well. That beings said, I gave the rest away and will stick with my AE's.

    • @UnitedStatesOfGuns
      @UnitedStatesOfGuns  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      James - that is an absolutely great thought! No idea how it didn't occur to me. I've pestered Ruger for years to reintroduce the .44 carbine - and maybe chamber in other cartridges - a stainless version would be even better. I am being told it is possible that it returns. A copy in good condition is around $1000. these days. Surely they can resume manufacture at a profit with that market. There is nothing like the Ruger. I didn't say so on air but I was once in a tree stand and got two bucks on opposite sides of the stand in about 2 seconds. Anyone could have made those shots - they were close; but still, having them both there was something unforgettable. The .44 dropped them in their tracks. I fired and knew I had a perfect shot, swung as fast as I could 180 degrees and caught the second buck just as he turned on the afterburners. Great guns those .44 Rugers.

    I have been told that Ruger will no longer support or service the Ruger Model 44 carbine. To me that is an insult to the customers who forked over their hard earned cash for this rifle and tells me Ruger will not stand behind their products. It tells me what Ruger management thinks of their customers. I currently have 5 Ruger products and have had others in the past. I will never purchase another Ruger product. All Ruger owners should send a message to Ruger management and do the same.
