      An onboard battery would have been great. I'm thinking of looking at whether I could integrate the 12V UPS I used recently for my bluetooth speaker - I probably need to test how long it would run for first.

    Perhaps the additional use of a long term battery and a roll out solar panel for charging for truly portable use. You could even make this a great mobile sdr type deck. Even single use battery packs could be used for standby power. Usage for remote weather systems, radio telemetry or even low cost repeater stations. This is a very nice setup. Though for repair purposes I would have glued standoffs or supports so that the screen bezel could be removed

The bigger case would be so I can put in some additional utilies like a hakRF One for SDR, a WiFi Pineapple, some battery packs, and a charge controller so I can set up a rugged solar panel on the top of the case.

    I only see two downsides to this :
    1. The use of Hot Glue really ruins the look for me, if you could somehow make them stick via some strong small sized magnets on the inside then it really would've been good. Plus it would be easier to take apart if needed.
    2. Is the screen size, it seems like a 10" screen would easily fit in there.

    Neat execution on the idea. I've had a look at some other reviews of the LP3D and it seems like the real downside in terms of performance is using single channel RAM instead of dual channel, it uses a Celeron processor after all.

    • @MichaelKlements
      @MichaelKlements  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah I probably wouldn't be buying this sort of board for it's performance - processor or RAM. It's significanlty better than the first generation, and it's perfect for day to day tasks and even for running basic AI or vision scripts, but it's definitely not not a "powerhouse".

    I think you need to revisit this, it doesn’t really make sense. You put a mini PC in a water proof case but it doesn’t work if you’re using it. The keyboard is too flimsy, the mouse feels like an after thought but it’s not world ending, and everything inside is susceptible to water damage during use. It looks cool but seems extremely impractical, maybe if you made a habit of boarding planes that crash into the ocean it’d made sense. Maybe get a broken latitude or other rugged laptop, harvest components, rebuild it with a latte, in a new case etc. this idea has cool potential.

  • @k62627

    Personally, I would have loved to have seen or had some reviews of the finalised set-up being utilised in different roles. By no means trying to bring down the project, I'd just love to see how functional it is with whatever it is you use it for if that makes sense.

    I really like your setup. 1) I would max out the touch screen monitor 13-14inch if can. I know I old school tech. But I still like my DVD/Blu-ray burner and would add a 4-port USB (2.0- 3.2+, FireWire) on the right side. The price of the Delta is still too high 64gb eMMC (500+GB) and 8gb Ram ("Really for gaming/Graphic designer low-side"16-32+ GB) 2.0-2.9Ghz CPU Quad...(3.2-4.0 GHz) I do think Delta can meet the upper size. 2016 year model laptop meet this! I hate to say. You got, space for speakers too? Monitor wasted space. Would love to add a battery pack, also. Still a great project for DIY.

    I think that both the LattePanda AND your build are AMAZING!!!!! Only one thing I would change/add - a place to hold the power cable. Also how good is the wifi with the antenna being in the case, under the Panda? I would think it gets fairly good signal in there, but if not then maybe you could use extensions for those tiny little antenna wires to go to the 'surface' where the other ports are and convert them into some antenna that you can un/screw when you close it...
    Maybe you can do Cyberdeck v2.0 with some of the suggestions, and/or things you couldn't quite put onto it.... maybe some Arduino controlled packages to pop on while out in the field, like a small weather station that could fit inside the case too... you might be able to get some extra room by using a KB/Trackpad combo... but I don't think I've ever seen a folding one like yours..
    There is just SOOOO MUCH POTENTIAL!!!! - (A built-in projector and gaming controllers replacing the KB/Mouse for a portable retro emulation station comes to mind lol) - Maybe instead of actually building all the different things, you could just put together the parts lists and ideas and make a video about them..... just some suggestions :) (I wish I was in a financial spot to build things like this, so watching others make videos building them is the next best thing lol)

    • @MichaelKlements
      @MichaelKlements  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Yeah, I'm going to look at how to include a battery and power supply into the build as well. I didn't have any issues with my WiFi signal with them in the current location. I'm not sure if the antennas are matched to the device, so they need to be that length, but otherwise it would be nice to move them into the lid so they're held "up".
      There is so much potential for this sort of build. It depends on what you'd land up using it for. I like the idea of using a projector for retro gaming!

      Hi Miguel, I'll have a look at putting a short video together. I played around with the IDE briefly during testing and it really just looks like the Arduino shows up as if you have one connected to your computer's USB ports. So shouldn't require any additional setup or libraries - I'll check on this though.

    Really cool! One good idea I had was to maybe angle the ports slightly outward. So the cables don’t stand straight up? What do you think about that?

    Awesome project. How did you boot the LattePanda without pressing the power button? Love the mechanical design aswell. Keep up the good projects.

      Thank you. You can set the LattePanda to auto-boot when powered in it's BIOS, it's called ACPowerLoss if I remember correctly.

    Nice project. I can appreciate you not wanting to drill holes in the Pelican case. The project will be great for amateur radio field use. Over time, do you anticipate the hot glue used in holding the USB cables, to give you any troubles?

      Thank you. Yeah, it sort of defeats the object of putting it into a Pelican case if you make holes in it. Hot glue probably isn't a good idea if you're likely to use it in the sun or leave it in a hot car. This is partially why I used it though as I can warm up the case to remove the panels if I need to make any changes to wiring etc.. If it needed to survive the heat then I'd probably look at designing brackets to hold some screws so that the panels were easily removable and then epoxy the brackets into the case rather.

      Thank you! Yes, it's priced quite well for it's spec's.

    Sorry so, an eDP connection isn't required for touch to work? Just so I'm clear before I buy my screen.

      This display has a carrier board on it that converts the eDP connections to an HDMI input and USB touch input.

      @@MichaelKlements ah dang ok, appreciate that... the search is still on then haha, been looking for a compatible 10" capacitive screen. Really wish it supported similar touch capabilities as the pi's, but that's a small personal preference. This thing rocks!

    This is really cool! Where are you storing the power adapter inside though or you have to carry that separate?

    • @MichaelKlements

      Ideally I'd like to intecgrate a battery pack or UPS style device into the base at some stage so that I don't have to carry a power adaptor around as well. At this stage it needs to be carried separately.
