That's the problem with 3d printed stuff. It makes for great prototypes but it makes for a lousy finished product. Those old german military aluminum boxes look amazing as well as the authentic typewriter keycaps.
This is absolutely amazing. Legitimately looks like old military hardware, it's multi part nature even plays to it. As the original purpose for the supply box showed, radio sets, etc rarely came in one chunk, but were a set of modules that could be interconnected.
I actually really like the fact that it's a split keyboard multi-module cyberdeck. Really unique and has a wonderful rustic used-future charm. Brilliant idea with using an old typewriter's keycaps!
wow. the look is just spot on. great keycaps, and I love the spiral cord. If I had to change anything, the top halves of the keyboard enclosures look a bit empty. maybe add a large solar cell, or some kind of reference sheet or something. but man, this thing is stunning!
a descriptive tutorial on how not to get your computer through airport security. love it! Great job on using the resources available to you in such a unique way. neat cyberdeck build!
I like the fact that even thought this cyberdeck is split into 3 parts, somehow this makes sense and it looks amazing as a whole product, starting with the case.
This is very cool. I tend to collect military cases as well and am always interested in seeing what others do with them. Might be cool to add 2 more touch screens, one to each of the keyboard halves, then have them connect via the USB keyboard connector. Just a thought...
@@MakenModify I've been reading up and watching videos about cyberdecks this month to try and build up confidence to start, and honestly, there's something about the way you explained things that made the subject seem less daunting.

Thank you ☺️ yea Germany also doesn't hav a big cyber deck/punk community but i can always recommended the cyberdeck cafe and it's discord. It's an awesome international community focused on cyberpunk estetics and building decks 😉
Man, super nicely done. Could easily be a piece of Militech Gear. :) Love the Look with the Typewriter Keycaps, it fits perfectly. (Und der Vorratskasten hat ja eine ganz fantastische Größe für ein Project-Case, da werde ich mal Ausschau nach halten. :) )
Obviously it's because of the way the cyberdeck came to life, but it's obvious that the usb connector should have been on the right half of the keyboard where the usb of the pi is, so you'd only need a 5cm cable to hook it up. Other than that, IT"S FRIKKING AMAZING! Great job!
This is awesome, the whole old german military theme looks so cool. On a side note: If you grow out your side burns, you would be the splitting image of our great Kaiser Wilhelm the first. :)
if you can 3d print a plate to push into the usb ports and cover them up to keep bits from going into them that would help maintain the look of the case and be functional also. do the earphones work with that setup
Geile Optik!! Als Funkamateur hätte ich mich vermutlich noch für die ein oder andere HF Komponente entschieden. Da mag ich den HackRF One !!! Oder einen günstigen SDR Stick.
Very cool aesthetic. I like the modular and the army look, combining both is great. sehr cool gemacht, auch glücksgriff die idee dafür im müll gefunden zu haben xD
Awesome build, man! Question though: Was it tough getting used to typing on a separated keyboard? Perhaps I never learned to type properly, but looking at your layout, I'm sure I would catch my self moving one of my hands over to the other half of the keyboard to type on a particular key.
I learned touch typing in school but i still used some letters with the wrong finger. Switched to split when I did my first keeboard (did a video on it). Had to get used to it for a week or so but ever since i mostly use split keyboards
Space constraints are a thing I’m sure, but it’d be cool if you could do this using only two boxes! Still a split keyboard, but maybe use the lids from the keyboard for dual screens and drop the trackpad.
was actually think about something similar but then there would have to be a lot of connections between the halfs. But the first intention was to build a keyboard and so that grew from there ;)
Very nice, thanks for sharing. Add some LCDs to the keyboard enclosures showing some more retro future military displays (PC temps , CPU etc ;-) Well done!
so cool! saw it on the cyberdeck cafe stream a couple of weeks back, awesome to see a bit more of it. The paint job on the outer case is fantastic, how did you get the peeling off paint effect? and the brushed aluminium look of the bare metal parts look great, is that just a little of the layers of the print showing? Really looks like metal.
these are Dfh.f 43 "Doppelfernhöhrer" from WW2. I once found them on a trash pile 😅... converted them to something modern and added shoe laces for the cable braiding xD

hehe yea that was mostly for the look and feel. Waterproofing would have needed other connectors which take up so much space that these boxes would have been to small ;)
Sweet build, subbed on that mustache alone sir haha. Can't grow decent facial hair to save my life lol. Would be cool to have a dual monitor on that setup, though I imagine it would make the build a little tricky for cables etc. Looking forward to more vids, nice work!
Yea it definitely dose but an on screen keyboard makes the tiny screen even smaller ;) but yea if you have an optimized app it is an option, just hacking at the terminal is not fun without a keyboard😬

Hehe, thank you! Yea it was planed as split keyboard first but then i had extra boxes and just had to make it a deck.
The sound of the keys were amazing :)
Seems like something that would have been used in the unification war in the cyberpunk 2077 universe, hella dope choom!
I would prefer a much smaller cyberdeck but that keyboard is giving me Big Thoughts on my next build.
First 5 seconds impression : i'm jealous of this moustache
by FAR the coolest shit I've seen this week next to cryptography

Yea thought of it but the keyboard was to high (no space for the screen). But should be doable with a lower keyboard👍

Very cool execution, not sure if it works as an actual Cyberdeck. But I very much like the look of and operation of the system.

This bad boy... Uuuh, I agree with those who say that this is the better looking of them all.
That is amazing, really great work. One, minor suggestion. If it were possible I would try and put the keyboard into one box and have it fold out.
Tried that but would not work with mx style switches. Maybe with sol low profile ones, but that would also mean different keycaps.
