While I wouldn't call it a gimmick blog since it's self contained, I am the person behind dayssinceabrandcrossedmarkiplier and it's always funny to see people despair whenever we have to reset the counter because a brand decided to 'cross' Markiplier. I also started a blog at the start of last month called is-todayborday-laborday where I tell you what holiday/historical anniversary it is if it isn't Labor Day. So yeah, gimmick blogs and their cousin the 'someone fucking around for the hell of it' blogs are both very fun to see and actively participate in.

i ran a gimmick blog for a month called "i peed in the pool" it posted "(random celebrity) peed in the pool" everyday. the premise s that pretty much everyone has peed in a pool at least once as a child, so that must mean these people did as well. i gave up very quickly because it wasnt going anywhere.

I run in the marine biology circles of tumblr, so I really liked seeing that ofishal-fish-posts made it into the video! I interact with them a lot and even have had some of my posts be certified as official fish posts :) EDIT: omg thoughts-of-eel is my mutual!! yippee!!! definitely going to tell them they made it in :D

I think poll blogs are their own thing with a lot of subtypes. My favorites are the ones that are like "Have you eaten this fruit? Yes. No but I know of it. No and I have never heard of it."

Oh boy, I got in HOT WATER a while ago for making a kinda salty post talking about how I think it's inconsiderate for a specific handful of in character Star Wars gimmick accounts to repeatedly hijack other people's posts (usually fanart) and turn them into in character rp threads. People were not happy with me, but I stand by it. Make your own post if you're going to turn it into a whole roleplay thread.
Long story short: gimmick accounts can be fun as long as they don't overstay their welcome.

right as you discussed carbon monoxide alarms, a mysterious alarm suddenly started sounding in my house. i looked everywhere but could not find it; it was not the fire alarm or the furnace. it sounded like it was coming from the walls themselves, but also it kept moving around.
it turns out it was the panic alarm work gave me inside of my work bag and it kept moving because it kept moving my work bag in order to not step on it.
happy to say i did not die of CO poisoning. yet.

I'd like to offer special mentions to nostalgebraist-autoresponder, which is a bot trained on their creator's blog, their replies and their asks. It responds to asks, and if you send it a command, it'll follow you and sometimes reblog your posts with commentary.
Also, pjakk reminds me a lot of buzzlightyearhugecock, which is exactly what it sounds like.

One brand of gimmick account I honestly hoped was going to be mentioned were 'you can't f@#$ [series]' blogs
A lot of these are kinda old from what I know, but the basic jist was that the blog would post a character from a series said blog is based on with the caption 'you cannot f@#$ [character]' and typically some form of reason as to why
One of my favourites has to be a somewhat more recent one being You Can't F@#$ Mega Man where the guy running it has been going through each game in the series and giving these long winded, insane and honestly really well researched reasons as to why you can't do the dirty with a robot that more times than not was made for killing or destroying the area around them. They haven't been too active lately, but I still find it very impressive either way
Anyway this was a very interesting iceberg list, had many fun watching as a treat for cleaning the house

I'd recommend it, 100%. You probably won't get a whole lot of followers unless someone big reblogs your post, but it's fun either way
It also gives you a little something extra to be excited about (depending on the gimmick)! I have a few gimmick blogs, and every so often you'll find a post that becomes a little bit special to you, simply because it's unique in the eyes of your gimmick

I feel like there's a few different categories of "gimmick" blogs if we look at it simply as a blog with a theme/bit they commit to. Most of these I think fall under the "silly" gimmick blog category. I think stuff like osha-official and amtrack are roleplay gimmick blogs. Something like all the is-the-x-video-cute blogs are educational gimmick blogs, and then there are the poll gimmick blogs that run polls according to certain themes, eg the one going around polling what you associate american states with, or the various battle tournament blogs like the infamous tumblr sexyman tourney.
The thing is, Doofenshmirtz could kill MacBeth because neither of his parents showed up to his birth, making it likely that he is not “of woman born!”
Now that I am a Tumblr user these videos hit different. Seeing one of my mutuals pop up in one of the example posts used is fucking WILD.

usually with these types of videos i already know all (or at least 90%) of the entries so it's a special experience to hear about most of those for the first time. tumblr is full of wonders i still have yet to know. the ranking in the iceberg is completely different from my personal experience and where i would place them tho lol
the magical vending machine one reminds me of old forum chat games. "vending machine" was one that would always get popular (similar premise, but you vend something for the poster above you and then insert something for yourself, next person vends to you, so on and so on).

I absolutely love these videos. I’ve used tumblr for years but since my main blog is an aesthetic one, my dash has been barren of a lot of the funny blogs I used to follow from back in the day. These have helped tumblr become a significantly more enjoyable experience.
