So yeah, gimmick blogs and their cousin the 'someone fucking around for the hell of it' blogs are both very fun to see and actively participate in.

They haven't missed a single day for five years. 17:23 this joke never gets old. my only tumblr claim to fame is being the first one to make it in poll format when polls came out, and it is my only popular post to this day.
I'd recommend it, 100%. You probably won't get a whole lot of followers unless someone big reblogs your post, but it's fun either way It also gives you a little something extra to be excited about (depending on the gimmick)! I have a few gimmick blogs, and every so often you'll find a post that becomes a little bit special to you, simply because it's unique in the eyes of your gimmick

One brand of gimmick account I honestly hoped was going to be mentioned were 'you can't f@#$ [series]' blogs A lot of these are kinda old from what I know, but the basic jist was that the blog would post a character from a series said blog is based on with the caption 'you cannot f@#$ [character]' and typically some form of reason as to why One of my favourites has to be a somewhat more recent one being You Can't F@#$ Mega Man where the guy running it has been going through each game in the series and giving these long winded, insane and honestly really well researched reasons as to why you can't do the dirty with a robot that more times than not was made for killing or destroying the area around them. They haven't been too active lately, but I still find it very impressive either way Anyway this was a very interesting iceberg list, had many fun watching as a treat for cleaning the house

Oh boy, I got in HOT WATER a while ago for making a kinda salty post talking about how I think it's inconsiderate for a specific handful of in character Star Wars gimmick accounts to repeatedly hijack other people's posts (usually fanart) and turn them into in character rp threads. People were not happy with me, but I stand by it. Make your own post if you're going to turn it into a whole roleplay thread.
Long story short: gimmick accounts can be fun as long as they don't overstay their welcome.

I think poll blogs are their own thing with a lot of subtypes. My favorites are the ones that are like "Have you eaten this fruit? Yes. No but I know of it. No and I have never heard of it."

I also followed thesamepictureofallmight back in 2018 and I can't bring myself to unfollow now. They haven't missed a single day for five years.

It also gives you a little something extra to be excited about (depending on the gimmick)! I have a few gimmick blogs, and every so often you'll find a post that becomes a little bit special to you, simply because it's unique in the eyes of your gimmick
Agreed. I have too much time on my hands and I'm sure I could make something weird and feral, if not my own amusement. It would be funny to have the comradery other niche blogs like the CDC and OSHA ones do.
I'd like to offer special mentions to nostalgebraist-autoresponder, which is a bot trained on their creator's blog, their replies and their asks. It responds to asks, and if you send it a command, it'll follow you and sometimes reblog your posts with commentary.
Also, pjakk reminds me a lot of buzzlightyearhugecock, which is exactly what it sounds like.

One brand of gimmick account I honestly hoped was going to be mentioned were 'you can't f@#$ [series]' blogs
A lot of these are kinda old from what I know, but the basic jist was that the blog would post a character from a series said blog is based on with the caption 'you cannot f@#$ [character]' and typically some form of reason as to why
One of my favourites has to be a somewhat more recent one being You Can't F@#$ Mega Man where the guy running it has been going through each game in the series and giving these long winded, insane and honestly really well researched reasons as to why you can't do the dirty with a robot that more times than not was made for killing or destroying the area around them. They haven't been too active lately, but I still find it very impressive either way

usually with these types of videos i already know all (or at least 90%) of the entries so it's a special experience to hear about most of those for the first time. tumblr is full of wonders i still have yet to know. the ranking in the iceberg is completely different from my personal experience and where i would place them tho lol
