Flying on Lynx Air's Final Flight

  • In the early morning hours on Monday, February 26th, Calgary-based Lynx Air sadly ceased operations.
    The news came just a few days prior on February 22nd, when the airline revealed that they had filed for creditor protection, with operations slowly winding down over the weekend.
    Up until Sunday the 25th, you could still book some last minute tickets, and in the name of documenting history and giving the hundreds of talented individuals at Lynx Air the send-off they deserve, I grabbed a seat on the last YVR-YYC flight.

    From someone that knows... take my word, an airline shut down is extremely emotional for the employees. Throughout our years we accumulate a lot of good memories and some bad ones too, but mostly good. This industry is one like no other.

      Agreed. However in this industry chosing your employeer wisely is pretty important. Far to many nieve folks dont know the cutthroat nature of the airline business. Lynx never had a working business model and was financed using someone elses money while competing against not only WJA in YYC but ACA in YYZ.
      I knew several folks who quit the larger, profitable, stable airline in YYC to go work for lynx. A shortsighted maneuver that gave them a few weeks of a better scheduale vs their former employer. Flushing years of senority down the toilet in the process. The good news for Lynx employees is that everyone else is hiring.

    14:42 - That final "tap"... I worked for more than 4 years at "Avianca Brasil". The airline went bankrupt in 2019 and I was "forced" to leave. In 2022 I found out that a "junkyard" in the city of Campinas had an A318 that belonged to our company. I went for a "visit" and it was one of the worst days of my life... Oh, Alex ... I'm a grown man already in my "senior citizen" years; but you touched my heart.... ever since I took my first flight as a child, I have always - haven't missed a one - I *always* patted the fuselage as I, too, exited the aircraft. It was meant as a silent tribute/thanks to the countless people that I will never meet whose job it was to make sure that the aircraft was manufactured and maintained... all so that I could arrive as safely as I just did at my destination. Thank you so much for sharing this!!!!

    Even Airline Videos Live mentioned Lynx Air in their broadcast wondering if they would see them land one more time at LAX last Sunday 25th. Great tribute video, and awesome how that crew worked together to make sure every passenger got home when they fell short of staff.

    Great video, and good to see the Norwegian livery.
    Such a shame Norwegian stopped their transatlantic flights. I used to travel between the UK and US a lot before Covid on their Dreamliners - Norwegian was twice the airline BA is.

    • @marcusdamberger
      @marcusdamberger 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I flew on Norwegian once from Gatwick to LAX. I felt the seats on the Dreamliner were a little cramped. I was a lot more comfortable on the outgoing flight on a Thomas Cook A330. Thomas Cook of course now gone, and Norwegian out of the transatlantic route business.

      Yea, unfortunately that was there problem, they expanded to fast. If you watched Air Canada (at the beginning) they did a slow grow). Same with Westjet, Slow grow. I feel bad for Lynx I really loved their colors.

    I was at YVR at the same time as you flying home to YUL with my dad and we were talking and said that we were flying on the last day of Lynx... little did we know that the last flight was taking off only a few meters away!! We arrived in YUL on the red eye at 6:40am and saw abandoned bags with a handwritten paper on them thag said Lynx Air... crazy that no one was taking care of them now. Thanks for this video!

    Flew lynx air for the first time on February 22, 2024 from YYC to LAS, as soon as we landed I got an email saying my return flight was cancelled and they are ceasing operations, had to use my points to fly AC. I only flew with lynx once but my first time was a great experience, I will miss them

    An airline shutting down is really emotional. Thank you for documenting this event as it sheds some light on how messy it can be. I really feel for the employees of Lynx Air. Speaking from experience, the emotions are even more intense when it’s a national carrier. My grandparents worked for Malév Hungarian Airlines, and my father and I both wanted to fly for them. I legitimately cried when they announced the airline went bankrupt and the emotional black whole that’s been left as a result is still present to this day. Many people, me included still hold onto the memories made from the days gone by. Watching this video brought back many of those same feelings I felt back in 2012. So here’s to the employees and frequent flyers of Lynx Air!
