      I spent about 350 on 4 used tires about 4 to 5 years ago and its time for another set. Was totally worth it for me. Yes i mainly just drive to and from work but thats still a fair amount of driving. This is on a full sized truck as well so for me it totally makes sense to buy used. Never had a flat either. If I bought new from any tire shop or online dealer I would have easily been paying over a thousand dollars. I used to trade in my vehicles every time I needed tires lol. Now I just buy used for a fraction of the cost. But hey to each their own. I can understand why some people wouldnt want to do it that way.

    Once your tires start to squeek when making turns or slip don't grip the road that well replace them make sure used tires still have good thread on them

    I usually check at my local wrecking yard. I've found tires that were off wrecked cars in great condition. I got a set of 4 Pirelli tires off a wrecked car for $100, they had plenty of tread left and I've been running them for 2 years with no issues.

    Bought a "New" Firestone for $40. But it was made in the 29th Week of 2012. I got it to use on a full size spare. Rubber looked good. We'll see.

    My dad's tire blew when we were on the freeway. This happened like 15 years ago lol He never trusted used tires ever since and I don't either. Just buy new. Used tires aren't worth it unless you want a spare for emergencies

      Uses tires can be fine if you inspect them first before purchase. If you are cheap, used tires are a better option then brand new Chinese made tires.

    I just bought 4 new tires off of amazon for $130 plus installation at sears for $70. A used tire shop wanted over $200 installed. So check amazon before buying used and click on professional installation if they offer it in your location

    • @letsgonow5641

      I did the same but at Walmart. The tires were cheap to begin with but they also were on clearance. With installation it was under $200. The shop up the street wanted $160 for a set of mix matched tires. for $40 more i had a brand new set. I did some research before an the tires i bought are actually made by Yokohoma just branded under another name. So it wasnt some cheap Chinese tires.

    I bought 2007 used car 2 years ago. Lady said she changed the tires. After a year of driving I noticed some weird, so took it to the mechanic. They inspected, and found issues (main issue was not tires). But they said I need new tires. Apparently the lady bought used tires from 2017-2018. With the heat of California and freeway driving, the tire became “dried” and caused the crack. Anytime it could be bursted. It end up costing me 420 for all 4 tires changes to brand new ones (chose the cost efficient ones). I do not appreciate her for buying used ones. Lol

  • @Assertiveman
    @Assertiveman ปีที่แล้ว

    First you want to check if the used tire is dry rotted or the rubber is very hard, You don't want to buy those ones, they are more prone to cracking, some used tire places paint over the tire, it's not always about trend, honestly the price of a new tire is the same as a used tire so just go with a new one, you don't want to risk breaking down in the middle of no where, all of asuden your tire blows out and possibly can end up in a crash and towing fees if you don't have a spare, and always if you can park in shade you don't want your tires to be in direct sunlight in the summer, like where I live temperature get up to 110 degrees and just letting those tires sit in the sun all day is horrible

  • @JoseDiaz-rd9fh
    @JoseDiaz-rd9fh 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    One thing to mention here you can check a tire all you want but you're still gambling with used tires. The one thing I will say is this if you have a car or truck that is high off the ground. If you have a blowout it could cause a bad accident it happened to my father. He was driving a Dodge pickup I believe 1500 one of the rear tires blew out he was on the freeway cars the vehicle to roll it got totaled. You got a car that's low to the ground or a small tire a blowout should not cause the significant accident like it would with that pickup truck

    Chinese tires. My brother has a hot water pressure washer on a four-wheel cart. The cart has four Chinese-made go-cart sized tires with tubes. After only about a year, one of the tires wouldn't hold air so my brother was going to put a new tube in it. He popped the bead to pull out the old tube, but when he pulled on the tube, it ripped in half like it was made of paper.

    My view as a high level vehicle technician I would advise against used tyres first reason is simply they have come off a vehicle for a reason to list a few age of tyre if a tyre is older then five years old it is less likely too grip as the manufacturer describes meaning your likely to have a crash due to not gripping secondly tyres with cuts through too the metal cords which allows water to rust the steel in the tyre which caused the rubber and steel to separate deeming the tyre useless third you can never match up same tread and tyre patterns which can have an effect on the handling of the vehicle which coupd result in a crash and forth reason is based on second hand tyre shops in the uk and that simply they don’t give a shit about you or your safety and don’t have the right insurance cover that protects the customer and the business of the tyre gose wrong but with second hand you don’t get warranty’s so they don’t need any insurance to protect you against the work they carry out and also none of them have access too dealership bolt tightening specs so your wheels mostly get over tightened costing you money in the long run with damaged bolts think of your safety and think of having some form of protection if something goes wrong get new tyres from a respectable tyre shop that provides vat for invoices and have public liability insurance and trade insurance and all the other cover policy’s in place and also new tyres first five years have manufacturers warranty so if the tyre has a manufacturers fault causing the tyre too fail you can get the manufacturer to supply you with a mew tyre new is always best. And if you really can’t afford too maintain the vehicle you own and drive my advise sell it and get something smaller and cheaper to maintain

    Yes, if you have common sense I just bought a set of 4 Continentals tires (name brand) from a guy almost new less than 300-400 miles.They run about 140-155 per tire. important check the date and the condition of the tire. Again use Common sense! total=280 including balance and mount.

  • @oldtimer4567

    I run my tires pretty low on tread, usually at the wear indicator before I buy new ones. But, here's the reason why I NEVER, EVER leave my old tires at the tire shops in my area when I buy new ones. If you leave your old tires with tire shops, in my area, they won't pay you anything for 'em. But, they will charge you a disposal fee for each tire you leave 'em. AND, if any of the "old" tires you leave with 'em, to be "disposed" of, DO HAVE even a bare minimum amount of tread, they definitely won't dispose of 'em. They WILL however, keep 'em & resale 'em later to customer who wants a cheap used tire. And, even with a bare minimum of tread the shops will usually sell 'em for about $35 each, (with mount & balance included...lol) or, $100 for a set of four. And I'll be dang if I'm going to pay a shops "tire disposal fee" for leaving my old tires, when they're actually gonna keep 'em & resale 'em to someone else first chance they get!

    • @jeremyr7147
      @jeremyr7147 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to pay to get rid of them at some point, government regs. It is worth 25 each to mount and balance. This is 2017 not 1950.
      The tires they are sold for still needs to be disposed and we include that also. So 25 plus 4 disposal, plus EPA reg. wants a 2.50 fee on each used tire too!!! So really you tire at 35 is sold for $2.50! $2.50
      Most tires are shot when replaced. If you change early just ask to have disposal fee waved. They have to be stored for months, year till sold, that is an expense. And if they age too much then to the garbage.. Plus if it's a good friendly tire shop, your actually helping another person that is in a bind and can not afford new.

      Ive stopped getting use tires an got new 2 years ago. There is a shop ive been going for years an years. They charge you based on the condition. So if the tire is mostly worn they will sell it for $20-$25 installed. As you said it didnt cost them anything. Just the ten minutes it took them to get your old one off an that one on. Over the last 5 years ive seen used tire shops popup everywhere around here. So im guessing theyve noticed its pretty profitable biz.

    If you can find name-brand tires with good meat on 'em they're worth it. Make sure there's no shoulder wear or scalloping. Also I have the salvage yard mount the tire; that way if the sneaker happens to have a nail hole it's on them, not on me. As for "Firestone" tires, they're Japanese owned by same co. that makes Bridgestone.
