The Porsche 911 Dakar for me just the best Porsche 911 ever, it's my dream car. Nice to see someone using it as it should be as a daily driver. Jay great video when are you getting yours ;)
This is literally my dream car, no other car ever made could take the #1 spot on my list. A sports car I can drive all 3 seasons no problem and bullet proof reliability.
Jeff Zwart?! Porsche royalty in the garage! So great to have him there to showcase this car. Yeah, it's fun, but that price of admission...Ouch! Thanks for another great episode, Jay and crew! ✌🏻❤️🙂🇨🇦
With almost nearly the off road capability of a Honda SUV! The car makes as much sense and buying a Ford Raptor and lowering it on small wheels and road slicks.
Porsche are missing a trick by not releasing this as a standard model at 'regular' pricing and paint options. There are people in many parts of the world with sh*tty weather and roads for who a 'sports car' just isn't an option, and would absolutely choose one of these over even an SUV. I've lived in rural areas down poorly surfaced lanes most of my life and for a Porsche to be a viable, usable option is huge! Game changer. Why not give the Panamera the same treatment? Actually, I know why... Because it would cannibalise Cayenne sales, but whatever. Great car anyway and credit to Porsche for making it. It's just a shame these things are always only available for a special club of clients.
Not only is Jeff Zwart a great Pikes Peak racer, he is one of THE best automotive photographers and videographers . I’ve followed him since his early days at Road & Track. He has an amazing eye!
Gosh this was so fun to watch and the bonus of listening to both of them talk about the car and just driving it. Each vid lately has outdone the previous one....... So entertaining.

Thank you, Jay, as always. Nice to see Mr. Zwart is still alive and kickin'. I"ve long admired his contributions to our hobby and wished I could have worked with him when I was producing TV commercials.
Back in the day I did up the suspension on one my cars, real low, stiff, and I couldn't even enjoy it, even though on flat smooth asphalt it handled amazing. I ended up softening the suspension a bit and raising it back up a little and it was a way more capable car in real world conditions. I could have fun again not worrying about losing traction in a corner with some bumps or bottoming out on dips, and I didn't have to go at an angle anymore on driveways, and I could still go on dirt roads if I wanted.
Thanks to the market adjustment by dealers, these beautiful off-road babies will live out their days in beautifully lit garages and never touch a single drop of mud.
I think that can be said for the majority of expensive supposed 'off-road' vehicles. I remember after 9-11, all sorts of freaked out wealthy people were buying what I think they were calling urban assault vehicles such as Hummers. Arnold Schwarzenegger started that paranoid fad when he bought a Hummer for road use, then every idiot around wanted one or similar so they too could feel safe from Al Qaeda terrorists when going out to get their groceries. How bloody ridiculous.
There's really nothing that compares to the rally Porsche 911. I grew up liking rally video games early and having my favorites of the entry level vehicles like the Ford Fiesta, Nissan 240sx, Mitsubishi Lancer evolution VII, etc. but nothing beats the Porsche when it comes to my personal preference of sleek and ability aggression on off road terrain. One of my favorite visuals are the vinyl wrap decals are the 1971 East African Safari Rally reprise finishes. Magnificent video.
3:55...FUN. Thats what cars are about not value hp etc. Nothing is funner than blasting around on some dirt fire roads, 10x more than paved. Diggum Smacks for this Porsche!
I immediately saw that Jay was sold by the 911 Dakar on the get- go. Sure enough he said he'd get one of these at the end of the video. Jeff's reviews kinda resonate with what I'm looking for in a Porsche.
I remember coming back down Pikes Peak in 1975 ad seeing a Porshce laying upside down in the trees quite aways from the road. That was back in the gravel days.
Love the car and love the owner's reaction to Jay's driving. So often owners on this show seem nervous when he floors it, but this guy wants him to drive even harder! Even asks him to do a Scandinavian flick! Amazing episode
As a kid Tamiya RC had a kit of this car (Dakar version) back in the 80s that was going for almost $400. I had enough sense not to ask my parents for something that expensive. So glad to see this.
Tamiya do some re-releases of older models, 80's, now and then, I would not get surpriced if the 959 Dakar will be at the market again soon. Then typically in limited numbers, aviable a year or two.
I was waiting to see if Jay would do his usual "when I was a kid" with this guy because they're probably close to the same age. Jay's the oldest man on earth. lol (I'm not mocking him...I think it hilarious)
Jeff is an absolute gentleman. I had the pleasure of navigating for him many years ago when he came out to Australia. Phenomenal driver.
Would like to see him in his early days, possibly behind the wheel of an old school Baja VW ,bet he could make it dance across the terrain

A $300,000+ beater car! You can take it offroading, crash it into a tree and not worry about it.

If you have Jay Leno's bank account you can afford to abuse it. If you are a normal person, crashing a $300,000 car is something to worry about.
