    One small note on the deathclaws are actually Prewar. Developed by the US Military to replace infantry

      Do we know if they were different before the bombs fell? Like did the radiation lead them to be even more mutated and deadly or are they relatively the same as when they were created?

      @@imnotabeetleiswear6549They were made using the FEV, and since super mutants are heavily resistant to radiation, deathclaws probably are too

    I wonder if radiation therapy for cancer started turning people into ghouls in the Fallout universe.
    I also wonder if people gaining the capacity for ghoulification was due to the constant low-grade radiation that everyone had been exposed to in that universe for over a hundred years.

      It wasn't to treat cancer, but Eddie Winter ghoulified himself before the war.

    So, I always assumed that the cycle of the ghoul lore went like this:
    1. Ghouls started off implied to be purely radiation-induced because making everything about FEV would've seemed a bit silly.
    2. Some dev along the way realized that if that was true then there'd be ghouls showing up in lore since the end of WWII in the Fallout setting.
    3. Someone then realized that that would make it canon that the FOverse's US probably had to cover up existence of ghouls after Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which would feel a bit tasteless.
    4. The lore then changed so that ghouls are caused by a mix of low-level FEV exposure and radiation damage, which would limit ghouls to at most an unknown number of years before the Great War and still solidly in the "post current year" parts of the timeline.

    • @sterlingarcher74
      @sterlingarcher74 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My gut after watching the fallout series was that Vault Tec was able to incite the ghoulification process through some vaccine (or FEV). Cooper Howard’s wife worked for Vault Tec, so it would’ve made sense that she took measures to ensure her family’s safety. Also maybe all vault dwellers and Vault Tec employees had this treatment done, so all of the protagonists from each Fallout game are alive as Ghouls hundreds of years later.

      @@sterlingarcher74 I was talking about the likely IRL reasons for the ghoul lore being all over the place, so. :V

      @@chaosvolt oh that makes sense now that I’m re-reading it. But now that the lore has opened up to a wider audience, they could totally go with my theory with the Amazon series being so popular.
      But also I like the idea of ghouls appearing in Japan after they’ve dropped the bomb. When the peace treaty was signed (World History seems to be identical in the fallout universe up until the end of WWII), the US agreed to pretty much act as Japan’s military force and still have men stationed there today. The ghouls could’ve been an unintentional byproduct of the bombs and the treaty could’ve been a cover up for scientists to be stationed there and study the area.

    There is a Tesla science magazine in Fallout 4 that features a cover of a gecko being beamed with radiation; The title says something like "The key to immortality!?" oddly enough we've already seen the effects of radiation on geckos and it's not ghoulification but it would make more sense that geckos seen in Fallout 2 and New Vegas are the product of 200 years of radiation induced mutations similar to evolution unlike the more rapid degeneration caused by ghoulification (now that argument people will give me should be shot down). I think that the prospect of ghouls is interesting in fallout because there are a few life forms in reality that have similar qualities such as cryptococcus neoformans (a radiotophic fungus found in chernobyl) and some extremophile bacteria that regenerate from radiation at fast rates.

    I mean i suppose it could happen in the pre war era, like accidents happening during nuclear meltdowns and people becoming ghouls during the melt down. I know this is random but if ishco something or anther still existed in fallout and still became the most radioactive man alive then he almost certainly would’ve became a ghoul if he had the gene
