Dude! a great review. I just ordered my Decoy Basic last night with a mid-August delivery. I'm really looking forward to receiving it. by the way, it's the family present to me for my 66th birthday. I guess I just destroyed the average buying age LOL. Forever young! Thanks again for your hard work.
100% we’ve made a very good decision, Braxton. My Decoy has already arrived. It is very different than an usual MTB. It’s bigger , heavier , faster. It’s a motorbike 😂😂😂. I’m in love again 💕💕💕 ! Thank you Sam for your super vlogs. You made me choose this fantastic bike , you’re very helpful. Keep on with your great vlogs !
You got me very excited to run an emtb this year and forward, Sam. Thank you for the real world report on your experience and progression. Most of us who will be getting into emtbing will be coming from a mtb background I would think so your journey is very relevant and your sincerity is confidence inspiring. More companies should be sending you bikes to test. Thanks and best of 2020 to you and yours!
Thanks rider you made my day! It’s great to hear, it’s hard work but I love it! So you bought one yet?! Today we did the last ride of the year we climbed 1500 meter in 40 minutes totally sufffering but amazing really! Had the best last year ride! Fingers crossed the companies will start taking me seriously but I think in the world it’s hard to get in but once your in your in! So maybe 2020 is my year! If your in Europe we are doing a ebike festival in Madrid in may come over! It won’t cost much the idea is to get like minded people together ride amazing trails eat amazing food and yes drink a few Spanish reds haha! Have a great New Year’s Eve and thanks for the support
I'm an "old guy" (53), never had the luxury of e-bikes, cell phones, carbon fiber, etc...All I know, is e-bikes gets my ass off the couch and allows me to enjoy riding in a whole new way. If that's a bad thing, so be it. I still enjoy watching you young guys do amazing things with these bikes. My mind is willing, but after years of abuse, my body no longer isn't. As you get older, you realize your limitations, if you don't, the consequences (injuries) are much higher than before. Enjoy your youth gentlemen/women, it will be gone before you know it. If e-bikes helps you to LIVE a higher quality of life, never mind the silly stigma that some people attach to it. My only advice, keep it in "ECO" as much as you can. There's a time and a place for "turbo", wisdom will guide your setting. BTW, at the risk of being political, if e-bikes are "green", then why does the government charge a sales tax on it (and other "green" products)? Conservatives push for lower taxes, vote accordingly.
Thanks for the great review and info . I ordered my Decoy Base 29 today . Ive been into ebikes for 8 years now and was a Rep . for a company I will not mention . So anyway , I really search out my buys and you really helped me out in making the right choice for me ... This old man . Keep it up . Im all jacked up now ,wanting to ride that bike here in Tahoe Thanks again
I just ordered the YT core2, which is the base in the US market. I'm going to call YT and ask them to put a coil shock on it after watching this video, especially because I'll be taking this to DH parks 25-50% percent of the time. Great review man, I just subrscirbed.
Sam that intro is rad!!! Great great video. The 22 mins has gone in a hurry, an eye opener for the E-Bike skepticals. I agry with the Yari performance, Im riding one in my Norco and It doesnt feel much different than my previous Pike, and is way more simple inside. In fact I can do the service myself. Im riding next week wednesday and friday maybe.
thanks mate... yes I do love the intro as well Nathan helped me loads...lets ride next week and if you want to try the decoy np... ill help you enter the dark side hahhaah
Hey Sam. Nothing but respect for the hard yards you are putting in on the channel. The production levels are super high. The intro sequence was really incredible. I suspect the channel will become pretty big. P.s. I am running XT 4 pots as well. Love em. IMO superior to SRAM in every department.
@@SamsBikes thanks man. Yup, it's an awful lot of work bro. I do enjoy it though and love the community of content makers on TH-cam. Positive people always willing to help out. Good luck with the channel mate 👍
This is a brilliant review. Not sure I've seen this format before but I really like it. Hope you get more subscribers so that the manufacturers take more notice and you can review more bikes.
Thanks James, hard work but I’m really enjoying talking bikes! Yep only be doing it for 4 months so let’s see how it all goes! The brands are not replying to my emails right now but that should change!
Thanks for watching and the feedback! Yep defo I’m trying to get on the kenevo so I can let’s you guys know but harder than you would think to get the bike industry to take you seriously 😳
I don't necessarily agree with all your preferences on components, but I really respect your no bullshit, brutally honest perspective and genuine excitement. Not sure I believe you think YT customer service deserved an 8.5 however ;)
Hey Jeff thanks for the feedback.. I love to ride I love to help, its hard for me i do get very very good service from YT but I also talk to lots of people and hear more Positive feedback then negative
I was at the YT Mill in Hausen Germany. I have asked about the drink bottle. There will be a system available soon. But they cannot say when exactly it will be available at the online store. Thank you for all information you shared about the Decoy. I ordered one! Greetings from Germany.
Sam’s Bikes sorry I have no Instagram, I have ordered the CF Pro Race. I felt in love with that amazing noble look of the Fox Factory Shocks with the Kashima finish. So i‘m over 40 y old, and this is my midlife crisis „Motorbike“ 😃
Hey Sam, I think YT fixed the shipping issue at least in the states. My Pro Race came with the bike and manuals in one box. Not sure why you didn't just get the Pro Race, if your upgrading the shock and bar anyway. The water bottle (very small) on their site will probably fit. They answer my emails and calls same day too. I would think they would give you more priority as a Decoy TH-camr. Love my bike! Keep up the good work. Cheers!
Thanks for the Feedback Brian.... I should of gone for the Pro Race but I wasn't 100% sure on the ebike thing so I really wanted to try before spending a Hugh amount of money...
The best review I’ve seen on the Decoy and I’ve seen a fair few Sam ... brilliant .....bit confused with the battery warranty.... they told me 6 months .....Carry on the good work ,looking forward to the Propain Ekano 160 review 👍
Hi Sam. Kann ich nur bestätigen und ich liebe dieses bike. Mit den Upgrades an Gabel und Dämpfer lässt es sich sehr gut fahren. Einfach Hammer das Decoy 👍
@@SamsBikes Got my eye on the 2020 Decoy Comp looks like a decent build for the money and avoids the deluxe rear shock. Seems like the base model is only available as a 29/29 bike now.
Yea they dropped the base which kinda make sense to me. The line up in 2019 was strange the base and the pro race were great buys and the race was not so good! Now you only have two options and I get that! It’s a good bike.
Good review Sam. Super fun bike. You nailed it. Vague is an apt description for the rear shock. Also that on switch. Had my tube there as well. Its a pain. Takes up space. On top of the top tube makes more sense. I put my tube where the bottle mount is now. Apparently theyre releasing a flip lock bottle to fit there(hopefully soon) as well as a light. I hear theres a wire from the battery for that light already there and an extra hole in the frame for the cable to exit. Glad its working out for you. Ser you have a michelin on there. Durable tire with great rubber. I have a 2.6 ewild on the back(w nukeproof liner) and 2.35 rockr2 front (same width as 2.7/2.5 maxxis respectively). I sold the maxxis as new straight away. Bike is soo fun. Customer service has been good That trail looks wicked. Great test
Hi, Sam. Thanks for reviewing. This YT is as beautiful as the mountains you're in. Near the reservoir of "la Jarosa" in the Madrid mountains with those "siete picos". Subscribed to your channel. Greetings from Madrid
Nice review and all true about the weight of an ebike. The heavy factor goes on the climbs because you get that nice gentle push from the motor plus downhill it's more planted.
Hi,I’ve got the pro race here in Rocky lanzarote carbon rims are bomb proof!! Hit them full pelt a few times now and just blown the tyre.rims are still perfect and straight😄
andrew davies found the same. The e13 wheels are holding up fine. Same cannot be said for the tyres though. Gone for Michelin E-Wild, seem a lot more durable so far.
Sam’s Bikes I had DT Swiss XM1501’s on my last ebike which were excellent. Would have been more than happy with them on the Decoy but to dismiss carbon rims just coz it’s an ebike is daft especially when they are supposed to be ebike specific. Just my opinion.....
@@SamsBikes I do Actually. Just came from their website and the only base model I could find was their all mountain decoy 29. Wasn't the one you had a base model mullet?
Lots of great info that one doesn’t usually come across in reviews , like order and delivery procedures and times , in depth experienced based reviews of components and how they react in different situations etc. Really great video !
Thanks 🙏 rider that means a lot these bikes are bloody expensive and I like to get this stuff right it’s important when you can’t see the bikes or test them you need as much information on them!
I’m completely new to the MTB world. Tried a friends ‘18 Kenevo last week and was sold. Been looking at used Kenevo but just so put off by a used E bike almost out of warranty. Decided on new, and it’s between the Decoy Base or a entry level 2020 Kenevo. I’m a little skeptical about the warranty issues and sending the whole bike back if I have an issue, but you’ve sold it to me with this review. Sam - fantastic and honest review, great videography on the intro, and generally straight to the point. Subscribed!
Thanks mate! Oh look we always want a new bike but I think I’ll stick with the decoy this year at least still trying for the perfect set up! Now running 27 front and back and 180 on and charger 2.1 and a new fox x2 so far from stock now and it’s a beast
Sam’s Bikes sounds like a weapon. Thanks for the replies man - love your channel, keep ‘em coming. Will Instagram you a pic when mine arrives.. currently waiting for an email from YT to confirm delivery times due to Covid disruption!
Loving my Decoy Sam. Had a few rides on it but I’ve sent it to Invis to get covered up before I take it any further. I’ve also derestricted it and it’s just so much better now!
I got a DPX2 for $400 on sale and it made the bike a completely different animal. The Yari really hasn’t been terrible, so it’ll stay for a while.. I’ll end up getting a 36 factory E later but I’m not in a rush. I upgraded my chainring and cassette too which made a huge difference as well.
Thanks for the feedback mate, yea I’m looking for the the x2 float in Black Friday and will do the charger upgrade later in the year but the Yari are fine!
One of the best tests I have seen on TH-cam ! Honest and not a commercial! Being new in the bike game (ok 5 times Bikepark) would you say the not great shock would also be noticed from a rider on my level or is it something only experienced riders would feel ? Thanks
Thanks for the feedback! To be honest it’s more a more experienced ride thing. Get the sag right and your fine for at least six month if you find you don’t like it it’s not a hard upgrade and not needed at all
Sam’s Bikes 👍 thanks ! I watched some more videos on your channel ! You are the man ! Keep everything like it is especially your „not paid“ opinion on products/bikes.... I am truly interested in buying a Decoy so don‘t forget to keep your long term test updated (with all the problems of the bike and the communication/help from the company YT).
Great review. I'm a 'gonna buy an e-mtb soonish' guy. I loved your description of the weight issue because for us mountain bikers riding non powered bikes, that is the biggest question - what is all that extra weight gonna feel like? I currently ride a Trek Slash 29er & I'm very lucky to live in Nelson New Zealand where we have big hills & lots of epic EWS worthy trails that I love riding, but man the climbs are big & there's no lifts or vehicle access to them - this place is made for e-mt bikes & the number I see on the trails is growing daily!. I'm hoping to get a 2020 Kenevo (at this stage) next year some time. I'll be looking out for review of it if you do one! Thanks again.
What’s up Nick thanks for watching let’s see if I can help! The extra weight is a problem for the first 2 weeks, you will be thinking what have I bought this thing is a tank! But trust me that weight disappears on the downhill. Has humans we are pretty clever and we adapt and learn and once your on the ebike for 2 months it will just feel normally, ok there are pros and cons, pros I’m faster on my ebike the bike is way more planted with the exter weight but you can over shoot corners and it’s easier to wash out the front and back so good tires and good braking is a must! Unless your riding big features the kenvo might be over kill I have not ridden it and let’s hope I can, but I need more subs before the bike companies will think I’m not just a punk trying to get free stuff! I think it’s at 150-160 on the ebike unless your ride big stuff and if your riding big big stuff I think a super enduro or dh bike is better. One thing the ebike doesn’t like at all is drops! I hit a few nothing crazy and felt like my ankles were going to brake! Anymore questions hit me up! Check out my best value ebikes for 2020 all great bikes
@@SamsBikes Thanks Sam. this is great info. I'm a pretty fit just turned 50 year old and I love my 'point and shoot' Trek slash, but the hills just keep getting harder to climb. Plus I'm a busy Dad / Husband etc. Typical rides here are 15km loops with 600+ vertical meter climbs and awesome grade 5 downhill tracks (yes I'm very lucky to live here - you should you tube search mountain biking in Nelson New Zealand some time) and we have many to choose from. I was also looking at the new trek rail which is virtually a Trek Slash with a motor and I could transfer all the high end parts over from my slash (X2 rear shock & Factory 36 forks etc.) as they will all fit perfectly. BUT, I'm thinking why not go for more travel & slacker when getting up these big hills will no longer be such an effort. And I often find myself wondering what it would be like to ride these tracks on a DH bike. We have a really good local shop that is going to have demo Kenevo's to take out in about a month. I'll let you know how it all pans out! Cheers, Nick
@@nickreeve3749 Nick I just booked my flights hahah... sounds amazing. If your going to go bike shop route this is best if you have the money... try and check out the a 180, 160 and 150 Ebike.. I mean is a big purchase and you want to get it right, I personal love the e160 Merida, the Focus Jam2 and the Levo.. try a few bikes and motors and see what you like.. at the end of the day the Trek will be sold hahah you just won't ride it.. more fun in less time on the Ebike and its still massive workout I burn the same or more calories and end with a grin from ear to ear. let us know how you get on. Sam
I've just ordered the decoy 29. I ride an Intense Carbine and live in Spain, my wife bought a Vitus E Sommet and only then I realised, I was holding her back on some of the trails here as they're impossible to ride on a normal bike. Everyone here in the mountains are on E bikes
@@SamsBikes It's a great area for mountain biking as well as only being a few miles from the sea and the lovely town of Altea and a few miles away you've the madness of Benidorm. A great place to spend some time
Good review overall, but your comments about the carbon E13 wheels are unfounded. Try before you comment. I have 2 buddies with the Pro Race Decoys, and one with the Base Decoy, and the DT wheels on the Base are done(dented to shit) after 2 months. Our biggest buddy (220 lbs) has yet to even true his carbon wheel. The hub is ebike specific (extra big bearings) and the rims are DH level (according the E13’s website) The wheels have a lifetime warranty too for piece of mind. My buddy runs low pressure (23psi), rides the bike like he stole it, and the carbon wheels have been bombproof so far. I have a standard Capra with the E13 wheels as well and the have been perfect for a year and a half now. Anyway, the bike is great overall at all levels, and my buddies and I all agree the Pro Race is worth every penny (especially the wheels)!
Hey mate thanks for watching and your right j haven’t tried them but I’ve got mates that have and have broken them! So I’m just not a fan but maybe that was a one off and I didn’t have the money for them pro race haha but even if I did but it’s my personal opinion I would change the wheels straight away and go for some industry nine hubs with some Stan’s rim! Anyway mate it’s a fantastic bike and I’m glad you and your mates are loving it
Hi Sam, re that water bottle, the fabric cageless water bottle might fit as they do a 450mm version that looks really small. When it comes to the tyre problems as i may have mentioned in the past, the best insert for e bikes are the vittoria air liners, take it from someone who has been through many inserts and smashed wheels.
Hi, would you consider the Decoy over the new Torque: ON for enduro and park days? Climbing is a factor for me but I mean, the bike comes with a motor so what even, better than my old Stumpjumper and my old two legs.
Thanks for an awesomely well done review. It made me ask myself why manufacturers put components on the bikes which they almost know people will hate, or change. I mean, we all know that rear shock is not capable enough for a bike like that. We all know a bike like that needs a piggyback shock and ofcourse the super plain Deluxe R is as boring as they come. I've got the Super Deluxe R on my bike and it's the thing I hate most about my bike. It's a waste of space both on bikes and on websites.
Thanks for watching yep totally agree, I don’t really get it but it must be the bottom line numbers! I mean yt are a smart company they know what’s what si not really sure! I mean they should axe e 13 but they keep on running there stuff! Very silly to put that shock on the decoy but we must be missing something
I like the look of this bike. This is not the only review I have watched but they have all been generally positive. My concern is the battery. It has been developed specifically for this bike. Replacement costs??? This may be prohibitive.
Thanks for watching... its a great bike but yes the YT Battery is a let down. Right now you can not buy a spare battery but YT are saying soon the 700 battery will be out but they have been saying that for a year or more now.
Ride a Decoy by myself since 6months,its a real enduro, and You can Play with it Like on a capra, yari is ok,but i think about change it on a lyrik ..for me best e ride ever
@@SamsBikes ,thanks for that, drove 1600km,with it ,no problems, but to upgrade brings it to a perfekt ride, never drove a e ride like this...greetz from germany
great review....i'm seriously considering this but wanting to see if a new Shimano motor will come out towards the end of the year....otherwise likely turbo levo comp
@Sam! I need help, I just found your channel and I've been into ebikes for awhile, but haven't gotten a proper e-mountain bike. I'm currently riding an YT IZZO Pro Race and loving everything about it. However, I'm planning on getting an ebike, and after watching a lot of your recent reviews. I'm leaning on either a YT Decoy MX Core 2, or a Trek Rail 5 (Base) with the intention of building it up over time with premium parts. What would you recommend? I'm looking to just ride mountain adventures, and bike parks, and I'm not so much of a crazy enduro crush trails, I just like to have fun.
Hey Sam! I know you’re not rockin’ the Decoy anymore, but I was hoping you could help me out. I’m upgrading my brakes to Magura MT7’s, but I’ve never done this before. Can I use the brake hose that’s already on the bike, or do I need to swap it out with the new hose that came with the Maguras? Keep up with the great vids!
Defo need to change the hose, you can buy a connector so cut the old brakes at the caliper join the old and new hose and pull it through from the top! Also take the battery out which will make things easier
Hello Sam. Thank you for your reviews. Very straightforward and down to earth. Can I just ask you a question? I am very much interested in buying this e-mtb. I already have a 2017 YT Jeffsy (29er). My main critique is when it comes to mud. The space available between the tires and the frame (front and back) is very little. It becomes clogged quite easily. So clogged that both wheels stop turning, which is so frustrating and annoying. Do you foresee this happening in the Decoy as well? What's your experience? Cheers from Portugal!
Hey mate I have had the bike now 9 months now never had a problem I’m also running 2.5 tire on the black not the 2.8 and also changed the firing wheel to a 27
For anyone that already owns a decoy with the 8000 motor and the 504wh battery. What range are you averaging? Also, can you customise motor output via an app?
Been riding this bike for a while now and I find that the bike has a lot of understeer on the flatter parts of a trail. Point it down a hill and it's crazy fun, but once the trail flattens out I find it hard to corner because I feel the front not gripping as well as I would like.
@@SamsBikes I think I'm going to try out a lower rise handlebar first to get more weight over the fork. Despite the cornering issues, I quite enjoy the 29er in front 😉
Ride the pro race since 2 months. Everything is nice except the saddle. Need a real saddle for long trail. The box is also really bad for the price. Chainreactioncycle sell nobrand bike bag for this price. Fully agree about x2 quality, DHL suck, bike efficient when you ride hard
yea I agree about the box but im sure that is accounted in their bottom line for profit it really is a very well priced bike for what you get... thanks for watching
Great Review =) ! You know what I don't understand, they've been talking about the 700wh battery for a year and the FAQ at YT also says that you can buy a replacement battery. Called there and you can't. It's kind of a really annoying factor. What if my battery is stolen?
@@SamsBikes Really? What options are there? I'm from Germany. I ordered the Pro Race and was considering canceling it because I was told by phone that I would not get a second battery. Then I asked myself what if mine was stolen ?! But you said there is an option now? Thank you for your answer.
@@Shupatino Hey mate for me its crazy you can not buy a second battery.. I love my Decoy but I might not buy it again just because of the YT Battery. I really like the Commencal SX, Kenevo base model and pimp it, propaine ekano.. I think if I was buying again I would go the propain
@@SamsBikes My friend, I find the YT optically and also the most demanding in terms of equipment. Otherwise I would have liked to have had the propain. Can you buy a second battery in your country? That just sounded like it. I hope I just did not make a mistake with the purchase of the Decoy and spent 6,700 k. You just said you wouldn't buy it again because of the battery, why?
I just ordered the 2020 Decoy Base 29 and am curious how do you like to clean and maintain your decoy? Washing methods and what to protect? What parts to not get wet?
goo idea for a video... I never use a pressure washer and I don't clean my bike that much.. I keep the chain clean and sometimes clean the bike with a bucket of warm water and sponge.
@@SamsBikes thanks man. I am super stoked on the Decoy. Can't wait to get on and go for a ride. Great channel and have to say you were the one that convinced me to look at the YT Decoy
Just looking at the YT Decoy site from Canada . I could buy the top spec Decoy for $9400.00 comparing that to a Specialized Turbo I would be into around $15000.00 for a similar build with the S works with the carbon wheels. But you also get the 700 watt battery . It is tempting but you hear of people having a lot of problems with there e bikes .You really need a a bike shop to look after you . I would not want to have to be shipping my bike back to the company and be without it for a long time .
Yea mate the only problem I see with yt is the battery if something does goes wrong with the battery you will need to send it back but it is a lot cheaper! If you have a problem with parte and motor that can be fixed locally. I personally would be looking for a bike with a shimano battery so if there is a problem it doesn’t need to go back! Not so much of a problem for us in Europe but!
HI Sam you have some incredible content! My situation at the moment is I have a yt capra and love it but looking to get an ebike As well, I can't decide on either the highly spec'd 2022 decoy mx pro race or the Orbea 21 Wild FS H10 which is alloy but decent componentry. I am 6,3 100kg am fit but worried the ep8 and 540w battery wont cut it compared to bosch /625w. If I get the decoy will look at getting the 700w bat if it actually comes out or just a spare 540w for the big days. I'm in Nz and ride a mix of trails but need it to be able to handle the steep rough down hill stuff! Your advice would be greatly appreciated!!
Hey sam, is that the Patrol run at la.pinilla? Are you a "local" madridian? If so, cool! I'm a local and have been watching your channel without knowing you were based here..
Looks a lot like my Canyon Spectral Cf 7.0, 9.0. The decoy is next on my list, but I won’t get it until I lose 30 pounds by diet and MTBing up hill. Then I feel like I’ve earned it.
Hello Sam, i am on the edge to order a YT base model. I ride for the last year a trek fuel ex 8+ large 2019 on 29 wheels, so should i order a large or a xlarge. Also Shimano motor at 70nm vs the new Bosch at 85nm , did it make a big difference on my decision for witch bike i should go. YT decoy 29 base vs Trek rail 5. I am 5 11 and 175 lbs 58 years old.. Love yours vids. Tanks for your response. from a French Canadian fan. Claude
Hey Claude both bikes are very good I think! Clearly better build on the decoy but you get the peace of mind with the trek! My next video is about the trek rail 5 I really really like that bike for the money 💰 also the geo is great and the bigger battery! The shimano is long in the tooth 🦷 and if I’m honest if your not fit might be better going more powerful motor and bigger battery! Also sizing you would be between sizing the xl will make you more stretch out on the bike making it feel more planned on the dh and the large easier to move around and maybe nice on your neck, go sit on a trek in the shop and see what you think! My call is if you not fused about parts go the trek more power more range and local support. Thanks for the big up and glad you like the channel.
Hi Sam, great review.... I have been riding my Decoy Base for a similar amount of time as you and have come to pretty much the same conclusions. The rear shock is a bit of a let down and I'm considering putting in a coil shock. My only concern is the weight and not sure how much weight is too much on an ebike like this? I did ask YT for advise and they were quick to point out that any change in shock will void the warranties! Whats your thoughts on coil shocks?
Hey Ben thanks for watching and the feedback! Coil shock should work in the decoy because the suspension cure is similar to the Capra and loads of people run a coil, I personal think if your going to spend some money buy a 2019 x2 fox float in Black Friday sales if you can find it! That’s what I’m hoping to do! I hope that helps
@@SamsBikes Thanks for the reply Sam! There is also Decoy Comp (mullet) in large. What is the main consideration or pro/cons on whether to get a mullet against the Base model?
Well done. Thank you for this review! I have one question.. you said it is great enduro bike but how does it climb? How is it for some longer and flatter trails?
Love my Decoy as well and I wholeheartedly agree with putting some DH or DoubleDown type of tire. And for the ProRace it’s mandatory to put some CushCores, I broke my front hoop but my CushCore spared the rear wheel. My other bikes have been collecting dust ever since
what's up Australia nice review I've been trying to order an e-bike online but it has been a nightmare so a few years ago I found out about the YT for now it is my last option😊 but the price is over my head... and my question is does it come with a throttle or is it just pedal assist..? Thanks. Oh and let me know how can I order one ..I am 6 feet tall.
Hey mate. How do you find the 70nm? enough power? Also how did you change the bars? do you run the cables down the bar? I thought that on the shimano they went inside the bars? Thanks for your help?
Hey mate yea the shimano is fine enough power totally and if your riding 2-4 hours you will be in eco mode. No the cables run down the bars a little bit of a pain to set up but nothing extra needed. Thanks for watching rider
@@SamsBikes ok wicked. Appreciate the info. I do like the YT mate. Sexy bike! Ive gone for the new merida e160 9000 in green and black. Happy riding! 🤘

hey mate thanks for watching my in sep length.... no idea but I have a long back so maybe shorter than now... im sure you will love the Decoy XL send me a photo when you get it on inst...samsbikes
Sam’s Bikes re: well i am more towards trail. Getting back on the horse a bit to be honest. And dont need enduro weapon - at least that is what i think now :))). Some easier downhill here and there will happen but nothing too crazy. Family man, you know.
Yep I get it I’m sure it will be a great bike as well and with the long chainstay it will be very stable at high speed if you fancy pushing the limits in a few months
Ok what’s your style of riding fast and planted or like to play around in the corners and jump!? Hard to stay what the right size it for you because you will get different feeling from both sizes and both are probably the right size. Longer bikes will be more stable at high speed. Shorter bikes will be more playful in corners and easier to jump and Manuel ect.
Thanks for watching I wasn’t meaning I prefer aluminum but I think it would be better for yt to make more sizes in there range by not only changing te main frame so much cheaper for them to make aluminum chain stay in different lengths
@@taeohaas Yes if your tall like me the bike will be more playful and the small will be more planted.. it comes down to the ver all geometry of the bike in percentages!!!!
Sam’s Bikes I would put as many as you can in , play around with your air pressure until it feels nice , even if you go for a little more sag than normal, I think I was around 35 percent . And it felt completely different . Far more progressive. If it feels too progressive, take one out .
Hey Sam have you or any oter Decoy riders had an issue where the screen freezes with the shimano logo and doesnt power on correctly? Any advise appreciated. Cheers
Never I had one problem when I got the bike not giving power unless I had very high cadence I did a full system update rebirth the app and it then worked fine! Give that a go!
andy mckenzie pull the battery. Spray electrical contact cleaner on battery terminals on battery and on bike. Happened to me twice when bike got wet before use. Cleaner worked both times.
Hey Sam, great Channel! I am in the process of choosing a new E-Bike. The Merida eOne Sixty Limited and the Decoy Comp are on top of the list. (So obviously I'm for a base Modell.) What are your thoughts in comparing these two? Cheers
Hey Pat thanks mate I try I love these ebikes! Ok your talking about my two favorite bikes. Where you based!? In Australia Merida hands down is the best value. But in Europe it’s more expensive. As far as ride the geometry is pretty similar both mullets both shortish chainstay (440mm) I think it would come down to if your handy with tools and happy to build bike and maintain it?! Ebikes are more work than normal bikes. Check out my video online vs bike shop, and also I talk to my mate Julian in my e160 10k video on how he likes his! Good luck with it and hit me up if you have any more questions.
@@SamsBikes Thanks for the fast reply. I live in Germany and setting up a pre-assembled Bike out of the box shouldn not be any Problem for me. Also small things like new breaking pads, new chain etc is no problem. For bigger maintenence things there is a bike repair shop approx. 40 minutes from my home. And as they do not sell Bikes they are brand independent and fine with online brands. For the worst case szenario I could be at YTs headquater within 2,5 h. The only big issue I have is - like you mentioned in your online vs retailer video - that I can not test the bike. I will test a Merida this friday. And I do see the similarities between these two bikes. What would you say, how Big are the chances that if I feel well on the Merida, I would feel fine with the Decoy as well? The second issue is that YT does not offer additional batteries. At least for the moment. Maybe it changes when the 700 Wh battery is released. Still that's not the biggest issue as I do not know if I will do full day trips at all. It just would be nice to have that option though... I really appreciate your advice. And looking forward to new content on your channel. You're really doing a great job!

Champ im happy with carbon I would personally rather aluminum and better suspension package but carbon is good and it’s bloody strong I wouldn’t let it inferior when picking a bike!
@@SamsBikes ok cheers mate. Why would you prefer alu? Ive been looking at the merida e160 9000. Bit much but I think my local bike shop can maybe offer me a good deal. I do worry abit that an ebike might go wrong though. But you say you defo pick an ebike over a normal enduro? cheers mate
I personally think aluminum is just cheaper easier and better for the environment really we are not going to be riding these bike in 5 years so Ali is fine! The e160 is a bomb just check the reach I like a long bike and it’s the only reason I didn’t get it! I’m truly in love with my Ebike I don’t need a trail, Ebike or dh bike I’ve got them all in one bike!
@@SamsBikes yeah mate. I ride a 2011 demo 8 in large 447mm reach. It feels fine. Bit the new merida has the carbon front end an xl size so should be ok. Thats what I want aswell mate. 1 bike that does it all. I dont even really do full on dh so the demo 8 is just such hard work to get up. My ali bike is more than 5 years old though and I hope to have the merida for a long long time
Dude! a great review. I just ordered my Decoy Basic last night with a mid-August delivery. I'm really looking forward to receiving it. by the way, it's the family present to me for my 66th birthday. I guess I just destroyed the average buying age LOL. Forever young! Thanks again for your hard work.
Sweeeet thanks for the kind word and I hope you really enjoy the decoy! Age is just a number or I keep telling myself.
Forever young ! 🤩🤩🤩 And I was wondering if I’m not too old for YT Decoy , at 35 years. Mine is on the way . . .

Most of us who will be getting into emtbing

Conservatives push for lower taxes, vote accordingly.
keep riding mate... and yes ebikes and bikes should be tax free....
Best review about the decoy I’ve seen so far. Great Job. Thanks!

Cheers!

love the fact that you got the base model and loved it. Great video! Might have to get one now.

Sam’s Bikes I had DT Swiss XM1501’s on my last ebike which were excellent. Would have been more than happy with them on the Decoy but to dismiss carbon rims just coz it’s an ebike is daft especially when they are supposed to be ebike specific. Just my opinion.....

Honest and not a commercial!
Being new in the bike game (ok 5 times Bikepark) would you say the not great shock would also be noticed from a rider on my level or is it something only experienced riders would feel ?

Base is mor than a base haha, both of my yts are base ,the decoy and the capra...realy good
Good review overall, but your comments about the carbon E13 wheels are unfounded.
Anyway mate it’s a fantastic bike and I’m glad you and your mates are loving it
Seriously love my YT Pro 29!!!
hahah I love both my Decoys...
Thanks for watching I’ll check both out!

I'm looking to just ride mountain adventures, and bike parks, and I'm not so much of a crazy enduro crush trails, I just like to have fun.
hey mate both are good options I personally would go the Trek and build it up... local bike shop support these bikes do break more than normal bikes
@@SamsBikes My Man! Thank you!
Hey mate I have had the bike now 9 months now never had a problem I’m also running 2.5 tire on the black not the 2.8 and also changed the firing wheel to a 27
@@SamsBikes I bet the 2.5 makes the difference! :) I appreciate your reply!
Hey mate have a play around with the bike! I’ve tried a 180 air spring up front with and maybe try a 27 on front.
Might try the MegNeg upgrade on that rear shock. For only $90 is supposed to help with mid stroke support.
Thanks mate I’ll look into it!
Sam, the Decoy’s seem to be sold out at the moment. Do you happen to know when they will be available again?
Not sure look at a meta power sx I think a better bike and it’s in stock
was it easy changing to the XT brakes?
thanks for mentioning the size dilema. I have the same hight, I guess it's gonna be xl
Yep defo the XL
@@SamsBikes will get an L though, XL wasn't there
Great Review =) !
You know what I don't understand, they've been talking about the 700wh battery for a year and the FAQ at YT also says that you can buy a replacement battery. Called there and you can't. It's kind of a really annoying factor. What if my battery is stolen?
Yea mate it’s a great bike but not loving it’s a yt battery. Not a deal breaker but there are just as good options now! Wheee you based ?!
Sorry for the many questions, but I still have the right to return within 14 days. I don't know how to deal with it.
I would not buy YT in NZ or OZ just to far if shit goes wrong
Awesome review thank you!
Thanks mate!
Great video Sam's I've been wondering if I should have gone with the large since I'm in between medium and large. I will never know lol
haha so your more a whip type of guy??? hahah mate not Huge amore of difference in sizes when they have 5 in the range...
Great review helped out a lot!
Thanks Eric... diet man me too... been told im too fat to be on youtube hahaha
Sam’s Bikes oh man you’re kidding me! You look so fit brother!!
Eric Grivas haha no it’s been mentioned a few times haha oh well
Hello Sam, i am on the edge to order a YT base model.
Are you sticking or did you stick with the 150 travel on the front
this had 160 I changed to 180 at the front
Sam’s Bikes switching to suck travel would that not avoid warranty & Thankyou for your reply
Thanks Sam for the great review! Im considering the Decoy base against Scotts or Specialised base model. Any advise?
Can you tell me what you like riding, who tall how fit?
I’m new to mtb in general and 5.7 ft (1.74m). The local dealer just have some new decoy in stock!
I’m also considering to go for a M or L size!
@@josephlim4332 I'm riding a XL and Im 183 if you like a shorter bike go for the M
@@SamsBikes Thanks for the reply Sam! There is also Decoy Comp (mullet) in large. What is the main consideration or pro/cons on whether to get a mullet against the Base model?
Can this frame in a size small fit a coil shock? Also how about a dual crown like a Boxxer up front? I fancy coil over air, I do.
Coil totally fine mate it’s 230x65 shock pretty common. Dual crown forks are a no go. I have already asked yt and they said it’s a no go
Well done. Thank you for this review! I have one question.. you said it is great enduro bike but how does it climb? How is it for some longer and flatter trails?
Its a great bike over all climbs well amazing well for a 23kg bike... thanks for watching ! Sam
Love my Decoy as well and I wholeheartedly agree with putting some DH or DoubleDown type of tire. And for the ProRace it’s mandatory to put some CushCores, I broke my front hoop but my CushCore spared the rear wheel. My other bikes have been collecting dust ever since
Hey Rider thanks for watching and your feedback! I love mine decoy so much just about to sell my other bikes I just don’t use them at all!
what's up Australia nice review I've been trying to order an e-bike online but it has been a nightmare so a few years ago I found out about the YT for now it is my last option😊 but the price is over my head... and my question is does it come with a throttle or is it just pedal assist..? Thanks. Oh and let me know how can I order one ..I am 6 feet tall.
It’s just a pedal assisted bike! The decoy is good but a little long in the tooth now
@@SamsBikes thank you What does it mean a little long in the tooth .. and please let me know where to get one I cannot find the website

What's ur step length? I'm 183cm tall with a step length of 87cm. I've just ordered the pro version 2 days ago in size XL just as YT recommended me. It'll be here by tomorrow. Whew. I'm so excited ^^
hey mate thanks for watching my in sep length.... no idea but I have a long back so maybe shorter than now... im sure you will love the Decoy XL send me a photo when you get it on inst...samsbikes
Hey man. Like your videos. Now the model has changed between the years. If you look at the options, what would you recommend now from the line up?
Good Point I’ll do a video, for the me pro race is the bike this year and if you want a more trail bike the 29er looks good but super long chainstay
One more question on size. I am 178 and have a bit shorter legs. Inseam 80 cm. M or L?
Ok what’s your style of riding fast and planted or like to play around in the corners and jump!? Hard to stay what the right size it for you because you will get different feeling from both sizes and both are probably the right size. Longer bikes will be more stable at high speed. Shorter bikes will be more playful in corners and easier to jump and Manuel ect.
Have you still got this bike???? I want badly!
Yes
I'm curious to your reason for preferring an aluminum rear triangle over carbon, can you tell us why?
Thanks for watching I wasn’t meaning I prefer aluminum but I think it would be better for yt to make more sizes in there range by not only changing te main frame so much cheaper for them to make aluminum chain stay in different lengths
@@SamsBikes Is there then a ride characteristic or disadvantage with the standardized chain stay length on certain sizes in your opinion?
@@taeohaas Yes if your tall like me the bike will be more playful and the small will be more planted.. it comes down to the ver all geometry of the bike in percentages!!!!
My experience with the deluxe on a trek remedy , load it up with tokens and run less pressure
I might try that
Sam’s Bikes for the sake of $20 for a few tokens , it’s worth a try
Totally! I just ordered them
Sam’s Bikes I would put as many as you can in , play around with your air pressure until it feels nice , even if you go for a little more sag than normal, I think I was around 35 percent . And it felt completely different . Far more progressive. If it feels too progressive, take one out .
@@camwells9726 Hey Cam Wells thanks for your advice ill be doing that. Sam
@@SamsBikes Thanks will give it a go. Want to avoid sending back to YT if i can, cheers Andy
andy mckenzie pull the battery.

(So obviously I'm for a base Modell.)
What are your thoughts in comparing these two?
You're really doing a great job!

how do you rate the carbon mate? Never had a problem with aluminion. But never rode carbon at all.
