YT Decoy & Specialized Kenevo: 2021 E-Bikes Reviewed

- I get to test ride both the YT Decoy Elite (Thanks Gareth, who gave me a loan of his bike!) and the Specialized Kenevo Expert @TheGap . I'll give my honest opinion on both bikes and tell you what I like and dislike.

I have a Decoy Shred, which has 170mm travel with the Fox 38 and dhx2 coil mullet set up and it’s a dream 🤘

Nice video! Regarding the coil shock, fox doesn’t recommend using it on their website, and Specialized was forced to remove it. I have (had) it, and blow it a couple of months ago. My bike is still at Spec shop waiting for a new one for the past 6 weeks

Ironically I'm facing coming away from my mullet setup Levo for the new Canyon Torque.On 9, which is 27.5. Mullet setup really is confidence inspiring but not as playful. I highly recommend the Magura discs, 220mm up front and 203mm at the rear as you don't want to be locking your back wheel up too easily. :)

I have a Decoy myself and my friends have Kenevos. Having ridden both bikes I totally agree they are both great. I personally think the Decoy is the better allrounder. I have the base model, and was totally satisfied with the shock until I bottomed it out HARD and broke it in two. After I broke it I upgraded it to a Fox DPX2 Factory and now the bike is better than ever.

Ok, so the thing that concerns me about the YT is the 540 batt (looking at the Core 2). Do you have any thoughts on battery in terms of range? I believe you said that you went 2.5hrs in trail and still had 45% left (used 55%) is that correct? In that case I 'assume' I could get around 4 hours before the batt. says goodbye? Any other insight you have would be much appreciated. Tanks!
Unfortunately it’s wasn’t my bike, I just had a lend of it but yes it lasted that length for me but it depends on your weight, I’m 54kg so the battery won’t drain as quickly the lighter you are.
Great as usual guys 😉 very thorough. XT brakes would be a big improvement over the guide r’s in my opinion if you like effortless power but can feather too.

To be honest, one of the biggest reasons I went for the Orbea wild FS was the Bosch performance CX. The YT Decoy would've been my choice apart from that

The bomber coil seems to leak and the superdelux coil on mine cracked on the eyelet but they are both cheap shocks.
Using a cane creek kitsuma coil currently.
I wouldn't want an airshock.

@@CatMTBPilot I'm pretty insensitive to be honest but even I can notice it's a significant upgrade compared to the superdelux coil. Feels marvelous.

I replaced the codes with Maguras on my kenevo comp, they are awesome. Such a big difference 👍😁

I haven’t ridden the comp but based on the heavier expert I’d say it would be awesome! Best of luck with whatever you choose.

Both great bikes have the decoy myself. It's just gone back to YT for warranty on frame.

The seat tube cracked. Around the mid point. I was chasing a creak for a few outings it must have being the crack spreading but so far YT being good I lost with out the bike 🤣

I do love this review since I ride a YT Capra but have order for a Kenevo. But I don´t get why anyone would like to run a mullet? I have gone for 27.5+ front on my bikes including a Commecal Meta, and it is killing everything about a mullet all day long. Thanks for posting!

I've NEVER seen a 2020 or 2021 Kenevo come with an air shock! Even the comp model that comes with a single crown Marzochi Bomber Z1 still comes with a Bomber coil rear shock. The Elite model should of come specd with a RockShox Super Deluxe Select coil. Did you ask the shop you got it from what the deal was? That would bother me so much . . . You're spending a lotta dough here, not a small investment. The advertisement showing the Kenevo with a coil shows that the product designers at Specialized engineered the suspension setup specifically with riders using a coil in mind. Might even be too progressive for an air shock which could lead to stiffness that you can't sort out no matter how you adjust compression, rebound or spring rate. Also just wanted to say Magura brakes are THE SHIT! Although as someone who has owned 3 different Magura brakesets on 3 different full suspension bikes, I would warn that MT7 is not worth the money. The MT5 produces just as much braking force for significantly less. The MT7 weighs slightly less and has a bite point adjust feature, other than that they're exactly the same as the MT 5. My personal favorite and what I am currently running on my Transition Patrol is Shigura XT5s. Magura MT5 calipers and Shimano XT master cylinders and levers. Also I use Galffer 220mm×2.0mm thicker rotors front AND back with trickstuff organic Power Pads in the calipers. This is hands down (in my opinion) THE absolute BEST brake setup on the market. The amount of usable modulation is far wider of a range then any other brakes offer while still supplying more then enough stopping power. I personally value modulation over any other characteristic from my brakes. I feel like maximum breaking force isn't as important as modulation because at a certain point you just lock up the wheels and slide. As long as your brakes can get you to that level then they have enough power anything past that is useless anyway. What are you going to do slide slower LOL? To me the important part is how much usable breaking power there is in between when you first barely pull the lever to the point to where the wheel locks up and you start to slide. I can't stand brakes with no modulation but a shit ton of power that just feel like on/off switches like the Shimano saints.

Thanks for the comment, it’s only my opinion of course but the YT has an additional bit of seat tube even on the smaller models and when your legs are as short as mine every bit counts on lowering the saddle as far down as you can! 🙈 But yes you’re spot on it wouldn’t be as much of an issue for sure with the smaller versions.
