  • For the last few months I've been ripping around on YT's Decoy MX Core 3. It's the first mixed wheel e-bike I've ridden, and I'm thoroughly sold on the idea of mullet wheels on pedal assist, but more on that later. The bike features 170mm front and 165mm rear travel on their standard Horst link, four bar suspension layout and utilizes a Shimano Steps motor. After a quick glance at the specs you won't need much convincing that it's $6,999 price tag is a steal.

    Decoy 29 in stock. Got mine last month. I'm a hair over 6' and the XL fits perfect.

    I got the xl at 5'11". Its awesome except the rear hub engagement and the power button location is where you want to put a tube. Having plastic and battery for the down tube is a huge plus for me when in the rocky desert instead of smashing a carbon frame.

      We liked that the power button wasn't visible, but that is a fair point. Depending on how big the tube is, you could stash it back by the seat tube, and still under the top tube. Sound like XL is the jam. Enjoy!

    Have the 2nd Gen Elite model and switched rear Fox air shock to a Push ELEVENSIX, now my Duck "shreds!" Really fun bike to ride. Valid cons pointed out in vid and Comments thread. Seat tube could be a little shorter, barely have room for 170mm dropper and would be cool if battery was at least 630wh. YT never did release the mythical 700wh battery. Made a few upgrades/changes to stock components (Shigura brake set-up with Shimano Saint brake levers, Magura MT7 calipers and 220mm rotors front and rear/SRAM AXS Dropper Post/Michelin E-Wild 2.6" tires/Ergon SM Enduro Comp Saddle/Nukeproof Horizon 50mm Stem/SQLAB Bars and 160mm cranks). All things considered, frame geometry hasn't changed but its well suited for the kind of trails the Decoy was born for. Its an absolute beast and would put it up against any dh oriented emtb and it climbs pretty decent as well.

      Wow - that sounds like a really sick setup!

    im 6 feet as well and went with the same core 3MX but XL. Dropper post is slammed and don't have that weird gap between the seattube and the bottom of the dropper. However, the seattube length is a bit long. Same complain about the 200mm rotors in the front and back and wish they provided better brakes. I had this bike for about 4-5 weeks now and the biggest issue i have is the shimano EW-SD50 cable from the display to the motor, its too short from the middle connector. I replaced it with a 300mm cable.

      The seat tube height issue totally makes sense. It is a bit tall. Glad there was a simple fix for the cable, and you can always just chuck a 220mm up front - that'd probably do the trick.

    Just bought the Core 3 in XXL (I'm 6'6"). Can't wait to ride Pacific City!

    do you think xl is ridable being 5.10?
    reach seems perfect but I am just not sure about the seat tube length

    • @humzilla707
      @humzilla707 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Im probably closer to 5.10 now that I'm older and got the xl and fits perfect for me. I have the seat tube bottomed out and its just enough.

    • @mtb-mag
      @mtb-mag  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed with humzilla707. If you're used to bikes fitting on the larger side, you would likely be good to go. Maybe consider a dropper with a really low seat clamp like a oneup.

      How is the xxl at 6'2? I am the same height and usually ride an xl but have to do the double take every time I look at the geo charts.

    • @thim8009
      @thim8009 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@giffordprice if you look at other brand charts, their large size is only 9 to 5 mm shorter than yt's xxl. If I were to buy a capra I would go with xl. So to sum it up the decoy seems like it's 1 1/2 size smaller than it should. Try another brand with simular geo, doubt it will be xxl

      What would you compare it to that has better value for the $$? Genuinely curious...

    • @jamesw1791
      @jamesw1791 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can buy a full size off-road motorcycle with giant shocks and a motor for basically the same price. Also you could buy a small car that can get way more mileage than your bike for around $7,000. These guys are making a killing on these bikes and not even remotely trying to help the consumer. I'm all about capitalism but this is ridiculous. It seems like if it has mountain bike on it everybody wants to charge five times more for everything.

    THE WORST BIKE COMPANY EVER! I bought a Decoy in 2020, terrible service 5 weeks for a 'Stock' bike. One ride and rear hub made a loud noise. Turned out it didn't have any grease in! Had to borrow a wheel! The charger they sent Was a continental version! After 3 years the battery won't charge as 2 bolts mysteriously disappear. £500 for a new battery! I had Orange bikes for 15 years, brilliant service! So are Hope.
    I WILL NEVER DEAL WITH THEM AGAIN!
