Conor was in my RA (residential advising) group in college and can confirm that he is just as massive in person. Great to see he's still such a nice guy!

When they said they were going to compete not against each other, but against the Olympian, I was very sceptical, but him actually doubling their already combined scores, confident he can beat them enough to actually agree to ridiculous forfeits really drives home how impressive of all athlete he is.
In competition he's throw over 75m. That's a 16lbs ball thrown 82 yards. I say his confidence is valid.

This is why they should add a regular person to all of the competitions for reference.
If you watch the Try Guys videos, they do have a series on 4 vs 1. Where the 4 of them compete against one Professional athlete

Thank you for highlighting a field event that rarely is given the attention it deserves. It is literally in the top 3 technically challenging events in athletics and not easily accessible to the general public due it the risks/danger it poses. Love hammer throw!
I was really hoping to see Conor in Tokyo. Still a complete honor for him to reach the top 4th spot.

I never knew the weight of the hammer was the equivalent weight of that of a bowling ball before. That just makes this sport even more amazing because these Olympians are basically throwing a bowling ball over 70m on a consistent basis.
In all fairness, they use the momentum of the hammer and length of the string to give them more distance then they could just throw it still.
Still absolutely incredible though.
in hammer and shot put wight of ball is range regulator, they regulate it so best throwers throw around 70-80m, if they would start throwing longer over the field, they would increase wight of ball to decrese distances (itbwould also means reseting all records). Its also why women throw less wight, not just because there health sefty but also because they would not throw less making not look like hummer throw. Since women hammer throw is still developing, it wight change may happen there in future. Juvelin hed that happen but there they regulate by center of mass changes. Same goes with junor events, they start with smaller wights until they start to over throw and go to next wight, so those 2 should start with smaller wight.

This olympian's showmanship and dry humour is a great synergy with try guys
Seeing him toss that hammer towards the referees that are definitely NOT wearing helmets gives me so much anxiety.
Refs are normally safe, since people usually throw inside the lines. And they are paying attention. And a helmet wouldnt do much for you anyways 😬
I was once an assistant field official at an evening meeting which ended under floodlights. The hammer competition was abandoned part way through. The hammers were going above the illumination of the floodlights, making them invisible to the officials in the field. Scariest time of my life.

This was very informative and entertaining. (Yeah, I know that's the point, but seriously!). I did not know any of the specifics about the hammer throw. I'm liking this series overall. Gives me more to want to watch.

Here's a really sad flaw, when you dismount and you achieved a really satisfying distance to make you scream in joy, it'll all be crushed once you decided to get out of the wrong side of the circle.
Unfortunately he didn’t make the Olympic team, US throwers are getting better and better in all events, even his career best throw wouldn’t have gotten him 3rd.
Sad to see he got 4th! Just 1 spot shy of qualifying

I briefly participated in the Hammer throw in High School Track and Field, and yes, our coach did make us throw brooms (also same coach had us do ballet warm ups for Discus and Shot put)

I think it's possible to recreate the idea, like at a parkour training facility with those foam pits.
the high jump i think would be better i think its called..when you jump over the stick but with no pole…because the pole probably take a lot of coordination
Pole vault is the most dangerous event for the competitor. Those poles can snap when you are bending them, and you can fall upside down onto your head. Hammer/javelin probably most dangerous for spectators
The history sections are really giving me Shane doing his history shows, Ruining History and Puppet History, vibes lol Would’ve been cool if he did them but I also like the British woman’s voice, it’s soothing
She sounds really similar to the narrator on Horrible Histories (the one who would ask test questions). I don't know if it is the same lady but I hope it is!

A lot of similar rules to throwing the disc but seems waayyy more dangerous which is why i now 100% understand why we were only allowed a throw disc and shotput (and javelin) in high school haha
