  • The Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress "Chuckie" flies at the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The museum acquired "Chuckie" from the Vintage Flying Museum in Ft. worth, Texas last year. She was originally a Pathfinder B-17 with an H2X radar unit in place of the lower ball turret, but has been restored with the traditional turret (the radar unit was long gone). Also, the missing lower Bendix chin turret has been restored. The top turret remains a prop for now.
She is named for Charlyn 'Chuckie' Hospers who owned the airplane with her husband Doc Hospers from 1979. "Chuckie" is painted as an aircraft of the 486th Bomb Group (H), Sudbury, Suffolk, England.
My new HD camera makes the propellers seem to spin slowly or in reverse - I need to figure out if there's a work around for that. It just looks strange.

This is an amazing beauty. Love the livery on it and the bright polish. Love to see 10 or so of these at altitude (30,000ft.).

Does anyone of you folks get visions of the t.v. series of 12 O'clock high with the late actors of ROBERT LANSING and PAUL BERKE like I do back in those years ago.?

Your frame rate is too high. Try for a 30P or 60P frame rate and that will blur the props

Is this airplane still owned by the museum or did they sell it, if so who owns it currently,
I heard somewhere that the Virginia Beach Military Aviation Museum put its entire collection up for sale including the newly restored De Havilland Mosquito and Messerschmitt Me-262 after a bankruptcy or something like that.

The Tillamook Aviation museum in Oregon owns Chuckie and the FW-190. Sales of the planes have stopped and some new ones have been purchased - no bankruptcy. The Mosquito is still here as is the 262, though the 262 still isn't cleared to operate off grass, so it is at a nearby airport. The planes started flying again this month after a year of being grounded.
