The Cadillac XT6 Isn't Worth the Price of Admission

  • I often tell people that there's no such thing as a bad new car here in the modern era, and I still believe this to be true. That said, there are vehicles that are a poor value, and the XT6 is one of them. This one has a sticker price of over $71,000, which in my eyes is at least $15,000 too high.

    I just bought a 2020 demo model XT6 Sport (AWD standard, $60.2k sticker) for $44.4k, and like it very much.
    For the sticker price, I would’ve much preferred an Aviator, or perhaps a Q7. But for the price of a well-equipped Telluride or CX-9 (and far less than an Explorer ST), I’m content. Looks good, rides smooth, and yeah, mine has captain’s chairs. Drove 17 different vehicles before choosing.

    I just picked up my 2022 XT6 earlier this week and I couldn't be happier with it. I chose it instead of the Acura MDX and Lexus RX because the infotainment trackpad in the Acura was ridiculous and the Lexus hasn't undergone a substantive exterior redesign in over a decade (I owned a 2015 MDX and 2013 RX in the past). I always enjoy your reviews but I guess we'll agree to disagree on this one.

    I definitely agree. This isn't a 70k vehicle. I guess 40k or so. The quality just doesn't compare to those other luxury competitors.

    The Xt6 is an average suv that seems a little rushed ! I must say that you haven’t covered the features in the vehicle very well ! There are a lot of features that you didn’t explain or didn’t know how to use . I would suggest you get to know the features a little better ! The 71 k platinum xt6 your driving is expensive , but there you did not explain the heads up display, the camera mirror , the advanced cruised control system , and the seating options . There are some features like surround view cameras and video recording that weren’t touch on. You brought a bias to the vehicle that you could get from anyone , I expect the reviews to be more detailed about the vehicle , I do agree the vehicle is average , but it’s a step up chassis wise from Kia , Hyundai, and the current Acura MDX

      It annoyed me so much that he missed them, it's a good car for families. A base model starts at 48,595 which is very good for what you are getting. It is definitely a good looking car on the outside the screens definitely need some improvement but I think whoever buys this car does not care about the screens and just wants it for the family.

    I'm amazed by those tiedown points. I drive a 2016 (B8.5) A4 allroad. Admittedly mine has the cargo rail system, but the integrated tiedown points are made of thick metal, and feel like you could trust them to actually secure your stuff. Also, there are two way shopping bag hooks / tiedown points. They click in and out of place in a precise manner. The XT6 has tiedown points that look like they forgot until the last minute and just added some... Hooks.

    It is unreal how well you explained how badly GM and unfortunately Cadillac are run.... the Escala and the El Miraj were Cadillac’s saviors that were unique, 1st world American automobiles and not the rehashed, cost cutting clunkers that GM is only known for. If it wasn’t for Corvette or the Chevrolet trucks, GM would be long out of business and cars like this CT, XT whatever they are called... these junk mobiles aren’t even worth giving a name too other than garbage. Great review my man

      @ChrisONeillUSA  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well said! And thanks! There are a few bright spots here and there - the C8, Super Cruise, the Bolt, the clever truck tailgate - but GM more or less gets by on consumer ignorance these days... It's a shame.

    Before criticizing please know the vehicle characteristics. I hope those American cars were sold here in Europe, in stead of all the garbage we see here. Pure fake aluminium plastic BMWs, crunchy Mercedes and rubber/plastic Audis. GMs parts are not necessarily bad, as for no-one Volkswagen parts are bad for an Audi, or even a Lamborghini.

    • @chadmark88
      @chadmark88 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That SUV HAS the Platinum Package ( the first item on the option list ) I think someone was in there with "Armorall" or something that is making everything "greasy" - I've never liked putting that stuff on anything. This reviewer obviously doesn't like GM products - I have owned several Buick and Cadillacs and loved all of them.

    Yes, you can get it with 2nd row captain chairs. Yes, the car can stay in "awd" mode all the time. Didn't see your entire options, but the model you drove has the updated headlights, upgrades stereo, park assist, improved auto breaking, Heads Up Display, ionizer package. Your options are $15k

    That faux-carbon fiber interior trim looks so out of place and tacky. That belongs in the Chevrolet-branded product. I'll go further to say that this isn't even a Cadillac, just in name only. This could be any one of GM's crossover vehicles.

    • @ChrisONeillUSA
      @ChrisONeillUSA  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      GM is fine with appealing primarily to low-involvement consumers. Any discerning customer would know that there are better options out there, but there are enough non-discerning customers afoot that the company can still get by. At least that's my assessment.

      I think they sell enough cars that they know they can still make money on something like this, and even if it hurts their reputation, it can still be a net positive for them. That's the only explanation I can come up with. No other car company can get away with being this obviously mediocre.

    I like how you said the telluride beats it hands down, when the palisade is the luxury version. That means the calligraphy palisade would spank this thing

    • @ChrisONeillUSA
      @ChrisONeillUSA  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Palisade is not the luxury version of the Telluride. Both are just mainstream three-row family crossovers that happen to be built on the same platform. They follow the same exact formula as the Highlander/Pilot/Explorer/Traverse/Atlas/Ascent/Pathfinder/CX-9/etc. There are a lot of misconceptions out there about the Telluride and Palisade, rooted largely in the fact that when they were revealed, publications for some reason assumed they were premium simply because they had compelling exterior designs (subjective), and because automaker marketing invites you to think that way. The Telluride and Palisade are good - I've spent a week with both - but neither is a 'luxury' vehicle in the general sense.

    I dont think it is a good review. I agree that those hard plastic touches are feels cheap. However, there are lots of good features he didnt even mention. Whole video is consist of couple sentences "This is 72K vehicle which doesnt feel that way". "This touch is really greasy" "It is hard plastic I dont feel luxury"

    • @josephbzezinski6847

      I own one of these. He didn't even know what features he was looking at or what options were or were not offered in the car. He clearly has an anti-GM bias. Maybe he worked for Lincoln at some point in his life. It is a great SUV with great tech, safety and comfort amenities and the build quality is solid as a rock.

    • @josephbzezinski6847
      @josephbzezinski6847 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      He didn't know that the 2nd row captain's chairs were optional on the car, didn't know that the lights in the door handles light up at night, didn't know that the drive mode button to select between touring, AWD, sport and off road mode was right next to the traction control button on the center console. He also didn't know that once you set it to AWD it will stay there forever unless you hit the button again. He failed to mention the heads up display, rear view camera mirror, back up, side view and 360 degree cameras, automatic parking assist or the fact that the gear shift which he complains about is exactly what BMW has been using for about a decade. Looking back a year later we can see the XT6 has better sales figures than the Aviator and the Lincoln brand came in dead last for quality and reliability in the 2021 consumer reports survey so this guy was basically wrong about everything he said here.

    While I actually like the exterior design of the XT6 I still find most of not all of your points to be completely solid. Another thing which I think you kind of alluded to is the lack of ability to customize the interior furnishings. If you look at the Germans you can normally choose from four, five, six different leathers whether black, beige, ivory, saddle brown, coral red and probably the same number of wood and/or aluminum furnishings for the interior. In the Cadillac you're stuck with black or beige and that strange combination of silver trim and carbon fiber. It's a similar story for other Cadillac products. In the CT5 you get either black or this tacky two-tone stuff.
    Somewhat ironically, Cadillac exterior paints are amazing! They have these gorgeous blues reds and greens when the Germans give 50 shades of gray. In general GM seems to struggle with execution. Do some things extremely well, but they tend to be the things that maybe don't matter as much...

    • @ChrisONeillUSA
      @ChrisONeillUSA  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well said. When selling a product, it's a legitimate strategy to target uninformed consumers who are probably going to make a sub-optimal decision. That's what the XT6 does, and it seems to be GM's strategy as a whole.
      Of course, this ignores the fact that GM will commonly offer thousands of dollars worth of discounts on their new vehicles. And this XT6 at $55k is maybe a different story (I still wouldn't want it). But to suggest that this thing is worth $70k, and to invite a consumer to pay $70k for it is, in my eyes, unethical.
