    Credit cards with no foreign transaction fees are cheaper.

    Bancolombia's NEQUI can be linked to paypal so If u have colombian friends just send them the money to paypal and you will get a good exchange rate.

    Can you describe the differences between a Paypal card and the Wise card? And does either cancel any fees from the ATM provider itself? Credit or debit cards can be without their own fees if you arrange it with your own home bank or credit card company. Thanks.

      In terms of functionality, the main difference is that PayPal is purely online and doesn't have any physical card you can use to pay for things in stores (to my knowledge). I just made the comparison between the two because both of them are essentially online wallets but not banks.
      Unfortunately the Wise card doesn't cancel out ATM fees, but outside of Servibanca, the ATM fees are very low, so this didn't matter a whole lot to me. If you're interested in trying your home bank, you could certainly try both that and Wise and use whichever is cheaper. I tend to think that there wouldn't be any bank card that's cheaper than Wise, but you could definitely give it a go with both and see.

      Wise touts that they use the mid-market rate for conversions, but they also tack on a pretty significant fee. And then ATM withdrawal fees on top, I believe--which you're gonna be incurring a lot in a cash-dominant country

      Tbh after looking into Wise a bit, they're supposed benefit to nomads seems to have a lot more to do with marketing than reality. Unless you're also a freelancer or doing constant wire transfers in a foreign currency (I can't imagine the latter encompasses a ton of nomads or expats)

    Wise doesnt offer Colombian Peso's. Do you just use your home-country's currency?

    Is there a foreign Transaction Fee for each purchase and ATM withdrawal?

    • @ezratotravel
      @ezratotravel  ปีที่แล้ว

      Wise don't charge any foreign transaction fees for purchases, but they do for ATM withdrawals. I've linked a list of their fees in the video's description :)

    I don’t want to carry too many of my cards with me on this trip, or at least not have to use them. Would it be beneficial to bring quite a bit of cash with me in singles and small bills, or would it be better for me to use a currency exchange at the airport to use the COP? I’m sure the USD is widely accepted but if the USD goes further then it’s less overall cash I’d have to carry.
    Thoughts?

      USD unfortunately can't be used to pay for things in most cases (Colombia's a bit different in that way compared to other Latin American countries), so I'd recommend exchanging it at the airport or at an ATM in Colombia (or in the US before your trip).

      Just take money out from the ATM. You will get better exchange rates then if you try to change out your cash at a money exchange. 200 with not be 200 usd....200 will be 200000 pesos
