  • Only You Can Prevent Classic Car Fires!!
In this video, we are going to remove a bunch of fires waiting to happen, simplify our wiring, and increase our charging capacity with a Powermaster 1-wire alternator on my 1962 Pontiac Catalina. Im going to show you some of what was lurking in my engine bay.
Old car wiring is the absolute #1 killer of classic cars! When you get a new (old) ride make sure you get in there and check all your wires. Even if it seems like it's functional, you still need to check under all that old electrical tape to see what's going on underneath! Would it be a better move to put in a completely new harness? Of course, but that isn't always in the budget, so let's improve what we have.

Note This is a "remastered" version of one of my first videos. I know the camera work is bad, but the information is still useful. So I just wanted to try to make it a little more watchable for everyone.

A very helpful video. There's a product called DeOxit that the guys who work for me swear by. Any time there is an electrical issue at work, the first question is always "did you deoxit?". It really helps keep corrosion down in exposed areas.

Thank you. This was the first video I filmed that was over 1 minute and I look back and feel like I left a bunch of meat on the bone. I didn’t even have a camera tripod then. I’ve got some projects planned this yeah that I’ll do some better videos on classic car wiring.
I checked out that DeOxit, I’ve not used that but I’ve used similar contact cleaners. It’s great for plug ends.

The ground wire is first and last when taking cables off or on (first off and the last one on) doesn't accidentally short out things like alternator or computer and stuff like that

This is technically true. You should disconnect the negative first. That said, with what I was doing you would have had to try pretty darn hard to cause a short.
I’m much more meticulous about it if im using a wrench near the terminals. (In this case they weren’t even tight. I lifted both off without the use of tools.) I may or may not have shorted a battery before while changing a radiator. More than once.....
