I appreciate that you dont do clickbait, none of that "WE SPENT $5000 ON A WARLORD TITAN" which is fine, but its pure entertainment. This is real educational content!
Totally agree! Cult of Paint are just such scholars and gentlemen. I watch some of the clickbaity guys too, but as you said--I watch them purely for the entertainment of it (which is good, no doubt!). But if I want to learn them good good painting techniques? You'll find me back here. :)
These like cooler more obscure parts of 40k paint schemes are what make me so happy to be a patreon supporter, this’ll be such a helpful video for a lil armeggedon themed force coming soon
Looks amazing Henry, I love the standard of your army painting, it looks so good. I like how you mentioned about Patreon being able to keep you all doing the videos you want to do and not having to chase views or create clickbait. I think that's why you guys are my favourite painting channel, everything comes across as really professional 😊
What a coincidence! I’ve been bored of painting blue for my Ultramarines and started painting different units as various successor chapters of the 13th. I’m working on some scythes of the emperor hellbasters at the moment so great timing!
Man, I was going to get one of those air brushes and I was sooo stoked. They look like they give you a ton of control and are made so well. Then I had to go through chemo and had to quit working and that (as well as all my money to have any sort of hobby) went out the window. Ahh well watch you guys do it up is almost as good and hey, I'm in remission so I'm am grateful! Thanks for the videos and chance to live vicariously through you 😂
Gundam builder here! If I am to recommend a proper set of sidecutters for anyone, it’d be the Dspiae 3.0 sidecutters; costs less than other high-quality options, but it cuts through like butter. One thing to note, though: they are incredibly thin, making them very fragile. They are not workhorse cutters. If you’re going to use them, those details like the changing of the hand are what you want, thin pieces of model are best since thick pieces would probably dent or shatter the blade, I know that for certain
Love this conversion and paint job. Very tastefully done. The new terminator kit is just superb - all we need is a Mk7 kit for heresy now or dare I say it, w first born range refresh 😮
I knew I always vibed with you but you have consistently done my favourite chapters and I just want to say thank you so much for doing the more obscure cool chapters.
After reading most of the stories by L. J. Goulding I've been wanting to paint up a Sycthes of the Emperor army. Thanks to you now I have the perfect method, thanks!
Love this video, each week I look forward to your videos. With Leviathan on the Horizon I've been excited to see what you guys would be doing. I'm excited if you have any kill teams in the future very exciting This is a chapter I wasn't aware of love learning something new both lore and skill wise every time I watch
Yes, I would like to see a whole Combat Patrol of these Scythes Of The Emperor in this style. I'm tempted to try this out on some of my own - still unpainted - miniatures. Maybe a Kill Team?
This is absolutely stunning and such a great use of a variety of paints. I was considering doing my Leviathan marines as Scythes because of their Tyranid history and I'm definitely sold now. I just need to find some transfers. Thanks for sharing not only the great results but also the mistakes and changes.
"you are your own worse critique" i think the saying goes, or something like it. I love it, every single part of it. So for what its worth, great result. Was not sold on the gold at first but the contrast with the black, the red cloak and red case for the combi-bolter, just made it all pop even more. So to keep it shot, great work!
I was afraid I was going to have to sculpt my own Power Scythes for my custom chapter!! I'll be picking a couple of those Forgeworld kits up for my characters for sure. Awesome video!
Wicked looking model. Great information as you paint. Makes it feel like we can all do it. Love it when you show your paint mixing etc gives us a feel for what they should look and flow like. Great work!!!😊
Good to see people are picking up on the japanese style of nippers One thing I did find, if you want the best cut - the sweet spot is around the middle of the blade. Not sure how to explain why, but it's like cutting through butter with red hot nippers and gives me a near invisible mark on the plastic
I know the thing about persevering with a project that doesn't quite do it at first. There's been projects where I'm partway through and thinking that it's never gonna work out, but I push on a little more and it all falls into place. That liquid mask is really cool stuff. Gonna have to pick up a bottle or two.
would def be a treat to see a whole combat patrol in this scheme! 12 models practically seems like kill team lol but I guess they make it work somehow for combat patrol
Scythes have been my chapter since Advanced Space Crusade and Leviathan was to be my (latest) long awaited return, after almost a decade, but I can't bring myself to take the models off the sprues (or paint up my old minis) after seeing how simple/effective the airbrush is! Holding off until I can get one organised... which is fine, as I can see how much quicker even a basic paint job could be (and it's likely saved a lot on impulse spends), but the wait is definitely 'character building' and I have to re-watch this, every so often, to strengthen my resolve...
11:17 I agree. The matter the paint, the harder it is to airbrush. Which also means yo can add some satin/gloss medium to compensate. A bit of a hassle, but still an option if you like a specific tone of a very matt paint you want to airbrush.
Fun fact: I know the guy who invented the Scythes of the Emperor chapter when he used to work for GW as a writer and editor. He was a big ice hockey fan and our local professional team is The Nottingham Panthers. The team colours are black and gold/yellow with some white accents, and what other thing looks a bit like two crossed scythes? That's right, two crossed hockey sticks.
You might be one of the only people who paints before assembly like me and my buddies used to do- it's super weird to me how comfortable people are painting a model that's already assembled.
I think quite a few people do it. Personally when army painting I prefer stuff as assembled as possible unless it's a really obvious sub like this scheme.
Tassets, the hip armour, should be to the front to protect the femoral artery. For aesthetic purposes a lot of people put them more to the sides of the hips
The Scythes of the Emperor conversion you do helped inspire me to make my own chapter that has scythe-wielding characters. I'm just unsure how to make them work with the chapter master, captain(s?), and head chaplain though... A lot of them are posed for swords and guns. Also unsure of what to do with the left over bits from the Death Guard scythes pack.
I always loved their color scheme, I'm a bit torn between the retcon of their death not being a thing anymore, but then again being able to keep that colorscheme alive is nice and the way they brought it back could have been worse.
Very original color sheme, never see before,Waooww ! Do you ever used Citadel Air paint and Winsor & Newton Alkyd paints sometimes ? Please let me know ..
I'm planning on painting my Krieger killteam to look like the Octarius art in the books with the harsh orange light source and was wondering how I'd best go about that?
Hi Henry, absolutely love this scheme, but i was wondering how you would go about painting a yellow stripe on a black helmet? I want to paint the scythes sergeant terminator that way. Also sadly it seems themightybrush does not carry those decals anymore
Great result! I agree with matting down the cloak to distinguish between the different materials a little better, especially compared to the armor, which probably shines more. Cloth is matt most of the time, so it would make sense too.
I want to try doing pin washing and dot filtering on a deathguard model, do I need to varnish after the dot filtering to prevent it from running with the mineral spirits?
It's a nice model, but why two tilt shields, GW? Why? On a slightly more serious note, that looks wonderful. I too, have slowly picked up scale model painting and modelling techniques since coming back to the hobby about must be six years ago now.
I appreciate that you dont do clickbait, none of that "WE SPENT $5000 ON A WARLORD TITAN" which is fine, but its pure entertainment. This is real educational content!

Unless you try to to super detail it, head to toe, I guess!

I think the parchment scrolls have come out GREAT, great method, I'll try it for sure

Any specific reason for Relictors?

Never apologise for doing a passion project Henry. They're some of my favourite videos you've done because I can tell how much you're enjoying it :)
Cheers Toby
Very nice result, always nice when lesser seen chapters get a really solid painting tutorial. Nice job!
Having just read Pharos, this was a lovely little surprise to my timeline!

I would love three hours of this!
Love how it came out, really is a cool looking chapter.
I’ve been seeing a lot of these guys lately! Love to see it
Going to show this to my dad. He has an entire Sythes army, mainly using rouge trader miniatures
Amazing, any pictures anywhere?
@@cultofpaint unfortunately not. They are all in storage boxes at his house.
glad you did a Scythes of the Emperor marine my friend

What colours would you use for white dot oil filtering??
Hi Henry, absolutely love this scheme, but i was wondering how you would go about painting a yellow stripe on a black helmet? I want to paint the scythes sergeant terminator that way.
Also sadly it seems themightybrush does not carry those decals anymore
I'd paint the stripe in by hand. White then contrast. Weathering/oils will blend it in.
Hi Henry, love the paintjob! I was wondering which satin varnish to brush on you would recommend?
I just use the ammo mig lucky varnish with brush or airbrush.
MY LITTLE SPACE BUMBLEBEES!!!
look amazing ! just a question, where does the terra dominatus decals come from ?
I chopped up some different ones from Imo Fist heresy sheet from forgeworld.
Hi Henry, just curious did you base coat with anything before the Dark Rust and if so what did you use?
Hi Danny, just a can of grey automotive primer.
Excellent stuff. Where did you get the scythes decal from? I can only find an American company that do them and the shipping is more than the item.
Mighty Brush, but they don't do them now. If you're gonna do an army, just invest I say.
Awesome. You make it hard to not do a Primaris 40K Army. Trying to stick with HH only lol.
I think that's how I would do it now. Mini marines all heresy/Badab and Primaris for current timeline 40k
Grate Video, I play Scythes myself. I don't know if I heard where you got the scythe used on this model? could I get a little help where you got it?

if tis totally dry you'll be fine. But if you're pin washing then you'll probably find you want to varnish before anyway
Do you thin your gloss varnish as you would paint?
Yes
