It's really interesting to see that they showed playable characters AND npcs. I found it pretty heartwarming that they still try to implement them and give them some sort of story i.e. Vlad and Nadia AND THEY EVEN INCLUDED AZHDAHA I'M SOBBING

I understand, but I think that’s intentional. This lantern was very festive and about celebrating whilst the 2023 one was more about history, the adepti, moving on from past losses and starting the chapter of a new, modern liyue. To me, both had their very emotional moments ;-;

Yes, Lantern Rite 2022 was the best, something that would not be easily topped based on the cutscene alone, let alone if you take into account the rest: the amazing new story chapter it was paired with.
I do think the event story itself was much more fleshed out and interesting though.
As someone who missed first Lantern Rite, this was such a wonderful experience. Thanks a bunch Mihoyo for making this event so awesome.

All these games have little details that symbolize greater meanings ex: William's arrival in the beginning of nioh 1 being showed at the end of nioh 2 cuz nioh 2's a prequel, with mhw, Nergigante's been the flagship monster and the og trouble maker for a long while but in the end of the dlc iceborne, he was symbolized to be the balancer of nature and whether we love or hate him, nobody could deny that he is important. Not just that, he canonically had a lot of beef going around with the main character and the story also symbolized that by the end of iceborne's story, they both had a certain level of respect for each other as they both were about to Duke it out one last time and god of War 2018 when Athena visited Kratos when he was trying to save his son and she told him that no matter how much he tries, he can never run from the past and he'll always be a monster. She was implying all the horrendous atrocities he's committed and all the Gods he killed due to his selfish nature and even if he fakes his death, runs to a new country and starts a new life, he will always be what he has been deep down

3.4's Lantern Rite is incredible, but this one will always be my favorite.
the father and daughter relationship between Zhongli and Hu Tao is absolutely amazing and very beautiful as well, this entire cutscene is. it made me tear up

The way she says "Did ya see that? Way over there, a firework that looks just like a pig" and then Zhongli replies with "Oh, so it does" definitely reminds me of how kids bring their parents random thing like rocks and the parents have to act like it's the coolest thing ever

@@yuzumeow Zhongli calls her a child (which is not something he does with any other adult character) and she hangs out with all the other teenagers of Liyue (Xiangling, Chongyun, Xingqiu, etc) she definitely could be 18-19 which would be legal, but still a teenager. Zhongli looks like he's in his late twenties or thirties but has an even older mentality (since he's literally thousands of years old). As I said before that's a huge age gap between someone that's barely a legal adult and a fully developed grown man, a lot of people are uncomfortable with that.
This is so amazing! It's just so heartwarming to see every Liyue character celebrate and come together to enjoy the fireworks!
Plus not to mention, the event games are so fun as well!

I love the fact that Qiqi was able to remember Lantern Rite. Considering how she became immortal due/thanks to the Adepti, her family is long gone while she still lives.
But they were most probably able to celebrate Lantern Rite with her while they were still alive. I do hope that Lantern Rite brought happy memories of fireworks, food and family (the three essentials of the Chinese New Year and Lantern Rite!) to our beloved 50-50 ruiner Qiqi ♥

In our birthday voice line, Qiqi says if she reads something every day, she'll remember it at some point. (how she remembers our birthday) For Qiqi to remember Lantern Rite was genuinely adorable as hell it makes me cry every time, she's been alive for 100 years so it seems like she remembers it now that she's seen it every year

Truly truly beautiful. Anyone who has discovered all the parts of Liyue would recognize all the easter eggs they added in. To Smiley Yanxiao and Jiangxue’s friendship and Xiao looking down over all of them, the tribute to Azdaha, to the fatui couple meeting at last! I especially enjoyed seeing every liyue character there is in this, even (finally, haha) Xinyan! The music, the storyline, the games, all have become so much fun! and they weren’t so difficult it made it frustrating! And the animation improving so much-it was fantastic! seeing everyone be so excited about the lantern rite made it especially heartwarming. I loved that even the mililith was running around in excitement! Great job Mihoyo! This is probably my most favorite even you have ever done! I can’t wait to see the next update!

@@shanyrayquaza3946 other than event cutscenes none are deleted patch by patch, so we could atleast get an archive of story cutscenes; for events, they could be time limited like the event. As long as the cutscene exists in the files, it won’t take up any extra storage to replay

During the Chinese New Year, I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Bai Zhu, Qi Qi and Millelith! Thank you for leaving your families to fight the pandemic!
There were two parts that really got me: first were the Fatui guards meeting up and having such a wholesome moment, sort of reminding us that even the "bad guys" can have sweet moments happening during festivals and holidays, etc. Second was the smaller firework celebration in Qince village - the big cities always have extravagant displays during holidays and it's always sweet to see smaller more intimate celebrations happening in less populated areas which happens in RL too. idk. it was a nice touch instead of just the usual focus on big cutscene, spam main characters. Well done, Mihoyo, always nailing it with these cutscenes and now making Lantern Rite something to look forward to each year!

ME TOO. It’s such a good feeling, nostalgia. I remember fighting bosses with my friends. Now some of them aren’t friends with eachother. Having online friends carry me at AR 35. I’m so excited for everything mihoyo has to offer. Sumeru is actually so cool, and the anime coming out. I’m so excited for next years lantern rite.

After struggling with ptsd from my military days for the past 5 years, this cutscene is the first time in these past 5 years that I was able to hear fireworks without basically losing my mind.

This was absolutely amazing! They really went all out, to showcase small things/friendships conveyed without words, like Ganyu approaching ShenHe, the tribue to Azhdaha, Xiao on the rooftop, the reunion of the Adepti, YunJin and XinYan, Guoba, Xiangling, Chongyun and Xingqiu, and of COURSE HuTao and Zhongli...it really allowed us to see more of them as just...PEOPLE, and that made it so special!
I was really happy to see the NPCs getting love too! Seeing Smiley YanXiao, Ying'er, the Fatui penpals, the villagers on Qince Village, and the various people of LiYue harbour just made it all feel so... "together"! I say it eveytime: No matter what people *think*, I don't think anyone loves Genshin and their players more than MiHoYo and it truly shows! Thank you for another great event, one of many more to come, and I hope everyone has a happy Lantern Rite! 新年快乐!
TBH out of all 3 Lantern Rites we have, this one is still my favorite, cause this cutscene also represent, Azhdaha's tome which is great since it also a great way to also represent the ones that are now rested & also Qiqi still remembering lantern rite as well, you can actually feel the joy on this cutscene 🥰

i will never shut up about this cutscene - the way it captures the mundanity of daily life amidst the excitement of a big national holiday (lantern rite) is so well done! the glimpses into the lives of the people living in the city, the nods to the npcs (where's timaeus for ying er), and characters excitedly watching the fireworks in an amazing illustration of friendship...this cutscene is so warm & comforting :((

These are always the best cutscenes. Nothing in this game will ever beat seeing these characters hanging around and interacting with each other; it feels so lively it's heartwarming

@@rogikel11 The main story line doesn't really revolve around Lumine. This might be a spoiler for you so read at your own risk.
Lumine was revealed to be Dainsleif's past partner and is now holding a high position in the Abyss Order. Thus, it does not make sense to use Lumine in the cutscenes. The main story is that Aether explores the world, etc. to find some answers regarding Lumine, the Abyss, Order, Khaenri'ah, etc. Aether is supposed to be the one looking for Lumine, he's the one going through all seven nations and meeting all the characters. Lumine's story is still very much a mystery so we might not be able to see her in cutscenes for a while.

I couldn’t get to the first Lantern Rite in time, so I was dangerously close to crying during this. My cheeks hurt from smiling so much. Seeing Xiao smile for more than a frame + the hint of softness in his face?? Incredible. I love him so much and he deserves so much better than what he got saddled with

This cutscene hits hard man. Seeing everyone so happy, even Azhdaha getting a scene, it all felt so alive. Im honored for this to be my first Lantern Rite festival

Really? i'd say the 2024 was very lacking focusing on Gaming when we only just met him and so we barely saw or had any involvement with other characters bar Xianyun- Keqing - Zhongli - Shenhe - Yaoyao didn't get much screen time after being gone for nearly a year,
And..I'm sorry but the music was just...there, it was just a re-work of the 4.4 trailer music.

Everybody has their own opinion and experience towards this event and this is mine, if you don't agree with it, its fine, i respect it, just as long as you can respect this as well.
2021 event story was focused on Xiao and Xiao only, event main game were quests to help NPCs. only good thing from this event was probably Theater mechanicus, the original one. resulted to low reception on playerbase , i still remember this because it wa discusssd through the social platforms that the event involved mostly NPCs
2022 focses on Keqing, prior to the event was the release of the first interlude chapter that involved Shenhe & Yunjin, Ningguang and Beidou as well, which i consider as a build up for the lantern rite story, music was also a reworked of the first lantern rite. main Highlight for me was the cutscene which involves the right amount of playable characters and notable NPCs in liyue
2023 tried to involve many characters as possible but did not work out "for me". not only that, but for a music festival themed, why weren't there any music themed mini games, is it because the next patch was windblume fest? idk. it was a miss for me, also for someone who has experienced both the first and second one. this one doesn't feel too festive at all. maybe due to no build up storywise towards the lantern rite event, compared to the previous one. notable good things for this one would prolly the the event's stroy epilogue and backstory of ping, guzhong and C.R, still not enough for me to raise it in the ranks
2024, almost similar to 2022 but not so much, prior to the event, you can play Xianyuns story quest and explore Chenyu Vale, just to have somewhat of a build up towards the event's plot.of course they'll be focusing on Gaming now, but it's still a hertfelt storyline, is it lacking yes, but in my own rating, STILL BETTER THAN 2023s lantern rite.

@@theArkinagi Better than 2023 is questionable, 1: the music is worse but more importantly, 2: the scene was very...forgettable Hu-tao's terrible singing is actually something people remember about the scene. the 2024 one, what do you ACTUALLY remember bar Gamings Wushou dance? what characters did you see and what did they do? 3: the character interesting was soooooo lacking, where was Yanfei-Yunjin-Xinyan-Yelan (she hasn't been shown in a year) Ningguang or Beidou? why did Liyue feel so...Empty?
We spent more time in Chinyu Vale than Liyue harbour as such we barely saw anyone. I like Gaming but we just met him and he dominated the story, Shenhe was the saving grace in the story, otherwise it was quite bland and boring
The focus on Gaming really hurt this years Lantern rite, and it suffered accordingly --- the aftermath might save it from being a total disaster, but the build up and lantern rite itself was the 3rd worse (2021 is still the worst)

I missed the event. I finally managed to open Genshin this early morning only to find that it's already finished.
I have yet to discover Genshin when the first Lantern Rite was released. So I have been anticipating the event for quite a long time now.
But a lot of things happened lately (work, life, relationships) so I couldn't play as much. I just feel like yet another part of me is missing knowing that I missed Lantern Rite.
I went to the teleport waypoint on top of the Knights of Favonius Headquarters and for some reason, I let my characters fall one by one.
I never let my characters die on purpose and it was so hard watching. But I think I have to do it - the void in me seemed to fill ever so slightly.
I went for a second round of jumping from on top of the tower, but then Albedo's turn came. I accidently pressed a button on my controller. He glided and clung to the tower.
I came to my senses and did a plunging attack safely to the ground instead.
I never felt this way before. I'm too scared to hurt myself physically, but I know I shouldn't do that to my characters.
Genshin is supposed to be my refuge after all, albeit a fleeting one.
So, I turned off the game and finally watched this video which I have been skipping for some time just not to get spoiled. There's no point in doing that anymore right.
Keqing wishing "Happy Lantern Rite" at the end somehow took me by surprise. I supposed Aether's and Paimon's reaction is a fitting one.
I don't know why but watching all these characters having someone to keep them company and be happy with makes me feel better.
So, Happy Lantern Rite. :)

The amount of detail is astonishing, they included npcs couples having livid action, the little segments with the mililith and even included Chongyuns popsicle because this would naturally make him excited. Wonderful

The next few months will prolly be my last time playing Genshin. I will enter the next phase of med school, and there would be little time for me to play, so I'm glad i had the chance to participate in this year's lantern rite! It reminds me of the pre-CNY dinner prior to COVID, close relatives would come to dine at our house, being together to celebrate.
All the genshin players who is gonna be busy including myself will come back to this cutscene for all the nostalgic feels... Thanks mihoyo 🙏

this was my first lantern rite event in genshin and it was really special, literally my most fav event of the game. and this year's event is literally happening next week. I'm so excited...... The ost always makes me so emotional idk why TwT

@@nhomnhimnhem hoyo never disappoints with cut scenes but they have been disappointing me from day 1 till this day with my luck🙂 it's terrible. My luck with 5 stars is bad but with 4 stars it's even worse. Idk if u will believe but I still don't have Diona even after playing for 1.5 years🙂😭 they don't control gacha physically but it's been too terrible for me. Never won a single 50/50 as well.

Mihoyo really outdone, outsold everything with this Lantern Rite cutscene. They didn't forget a single Liyue character. Almost shed a tear when they present Azhdaha's tomb ToT Also it's really heartwarming to see everyone enjoy themselves.
It feels like they did the exact opposite of what they did in the first LR. What the first LR lacked in characters, they gave us tenfold this time around.

The way we see everyone just makes me want one of these for every nation this hits so deep and makes me tear up.
i feel like the animation done in this cutscene in particular really struck me because of the chaotic backgrounds and lively characters playable or not. seeing not only those in story quest and combat elements but also those like chef mao, the milleth and even the fatui doing things and meeting with others really just put a smile on my face.
well done mihoyo, truly.

I let out a loud YES at that moment. I had almost forgot about them too since its been so long since i last thought about them.
The improvements this Lantern Rite make it so much better than the last one. Props to Mihoyo for listening to the players' feedback and letting us spend the Lantern Rite with the playable characters. Even though some only appeared briefly, it feels much more special getting to see the Liyue cast. Plus, the event quests don't take too long now.
And the quest this time is quite fun too
I swear, the facial animations are so much more expressive in this cutscene. Kudos to all the artists, animators, musicians, editors and actors; you really elevate what Genshin Impact means to us.
Now here we are in 2024, 4.4 on the horizon.
We've all been through so much and come so far, but the best days are still ahead!
I've come back for the 2:38 onwards feels - knowing that no matter what, we move onwards and upwards in our journeys, if even if it doesn't always feel like it.

This cutscene makes me feel warm and emotional. It's not only because of those main characters. Moreover, it showcases every ordinary people how they live their lives and enjoy the festival, some of them may be dodgy business people, even break laws to cut taxes, some busy on doing their jobs even on holiday and away from their families. You can find true friendship and love among them. It’s not only a Liyue(Chinese) thing but applies worldwide. In these few minutes, there's nothing about the COVID, politics, hate. Happy Lantern Rite!

AHHHHHHHHHH My FREAKING HEART. Massive respect for that Ningguang and Beidou interaction!!! It was just PERFECT. Tysm Mihoyo for the Lantern Rite, it was amzing!
Every part of this is amazing and wholesome. Yun Jin pulling Xinyan to see the fireworks, Beidou and Ningguang flirting, Ganyu officially meeting Shenhe, Hu Tao harassing Zhongli, Gouba dangling off the fence. Keqing’s and Xiao’s little smiles. Even the npc’s were heartwarming. Nadia and Vlad were so cute! And the scene right after Zhongli with Azhdaha and the other adepti was a nice callback as well.

This cutscene made me cry because my whole family couldn't get together for lunar new years this year (due to the pandemic). But this cutscene made me take a breather from reality for a bit and gave me a sense of family and celebration. it's really heartwarming. thank you Mihoyo
this year's lantern rite was so focused on getting so many playable characters involved however it wasn't translated well on how it connects, with the main event which is the lantern rite, the whole event feels mellow, compared to the 2022's lantern rite. that lantern rite has just the right mix on focus between the npc's and the playable characters, the events mini games where quite good as well.
It’s because lots of people complained how last Lantern Rite not all Liyue chars showed up. Now when they did, the pace was too fast on each characters.

See a lot of people not getting the hidden hint of Baizu and Qiqi: they are implying that doctors and Nurses does not take break during lantern rites, just as the reference to Chinese New Years, that doctors and nurses does not take breaks during this time
Probably also tribute to all health workers around the world for their hard works during this pandemic.
