    It's been a year, I own and use this AT50.. Overall, this tool, never disappoints when transmiting with 100 watts of power..

    i bought one last year, still using it, i found using the recommended wire lengths for 9:1 ununs 53ft i think, and other lengths on OM0ET charts, bit ferrite as well

    It seems to be derived and improved based on the ATU100, as it also says so on the startup screen. Interesting that it doesnt need ferrites on the coils and how they are arranged perpendicularly to each other. Maybe the piece of coax was not supplied because if you place the SO-239 connector close enough to the solder pads, you can use any cable at these frequencies.

    Two questions
    1) If you go back to a frequency you have already tuned does it remember it or does it tune again ?
    2) If it does remember the tuning of a frequency that you have used, does it forget the tuning if the power is turned off then back on again ?

      automatic settings will tune while you "tx" i also change my mode to am (25watts max) key for a second then change back to ssb, its very quick, hope this helps mate

  • @robertbosley4814
    @robertbosley4814 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Correct it would tune much easier if the length of wire was not near any multiple of a wave length as half wave length wil have a very high impedance say 2/3000 ohms and the tuner is probably only capable of matching say 1000 or so ohms... .. love all your vids thanks for sharing

    I'd be curious to see how this operates on lowland VHF (25-54 MHz). From my experience, the driven element is best tuned for the lowest operating frequency. Antenna tuners are better able to make longer length antennas look shorter, than shorter length antennas look longer, from an electrical/resonance perspective.

    Shame they did not make the PCB fit the enclosure mounting posts would have saved drilling holes in it. Less holes are better for keeping the water out.

    Your Matt tuner would make a good review video. Also do you have a SCULAN for your FTDX10? IMHO its the best option for the radio.

    Hi Matt, I've been using this kind of couplers for a long time. I had different makes and brands. The best I got was the 1 KW JC4S tuner by Stockcorner. Your video shows why you can't use 1/2 lambda or multiples of thos wire lenghts. You need non resonant wire lenghts that stay away from hambands. I did many A/B tests with endfed antennas and rondom wire with tuner. Sometimes the tuner and random wire was stronger, sometimes not. It depends on the position of the antennas ofcourse. A pretuned matched antenna in my opinion has a little less noise but the big advantage is that you can work many bands with a single random wire. Keep up the great videos ! 73 Phil ON4VP

    Thanks for another great video. I bought one of these and it fires up ok. I am wondering if anyone has figured out what range of antenna impedances it’s optimised for. I have not been able to get hold of a schematic but I see from the PCB that there is only a single endsd unbalanced output that looks like it’s designed specifically to directly drive end fed mid to high impedance wires without a transformer? If so it is different to most of the N7DDC kits out there which seem optimised for lower impedance loads (though of course they could drive any load with an appropriate transformer). If anyone has data on the range of load impedances this ATU drives out of the box I would be grateful

    👍 Thanks for video. As per otner comments, also wondered if adding a 9:1 UNUN at the "ATU" or using a legnth of wire not half-wave (or multiple of) resonant on any of the bands you want may help? Possibly, even try both? Although the antena element is not resonant, with the ATU at the feedpoint, it shouid make for an efficient system. Probably more efficent than having the ATU in your rig or shack.

      Agree, most auto tuners work well as you have said.

    • @rjy8960
      @rjy8960 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd expect a close to resonant half-wave to be a difficult match as it is the highest point of impedance, so using a 9:1 unun will probably help there although there are lengths of wire which are not resonant on any of the amateur bands that are suggested and again they can be used with a 9:1 unun into the tuner.

    The case must fit or you must acquit. Really. Why not tell the kit seller to get cases with mounting points at appropriate locations to #DOMINATE the market.

  • @petermiles6557
    @petermiles6557 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I've found that most auto-tuners are much happier if you connect through a 1:9 unun or 1:9 balun and use a no-resonant antenna wire.

    Multiples of half wave should be avoided. Too high impedance to match. There are good tables of good easy to tune lengths. If I remember correctly 12.5m is a good length for 40m and up.

      Further to the ads, I don't mind legitimate ads, what bends my chassis is the double standard YT uses. You mustn't create "offensive" videos, but YT has no problem with pushing scam/snake oil ads like "Just drink a glass of warm water every night before bed to drive tinnitus away".@@TechMindsOfficial
