First time I’ve seen this covered in the prepping community. Yes indeed, it’ll be vital. I’ve been building and configuring my own setup for quite a long while now. Happy to share all the intricacies, but not here in YT comments. Worth noting that you can take this concept far far beyond just hoarding PDFs and movies. Let me know if you’re interested!
Having a functional computer with movies on it is going to be extremely important given these hurricanes in the next few days :) I appreciate your comment. And I'd love to have you as one of my subscribers. I like to cover topics other preppers are afraid to talk about. I am going to do one on E-bikes very soon.
Having a functional computer is fine, but don't count much on having an Internet to connect it to. That will most likely all be fried, so count on having all games, movies and music installed locally.
Interesting video. I concur with your assessment of older laptops. I have a few laptops that are well over 10 years old and they run Windows 10/Linux just fine. Just change the hard drive out with an SSD and add more memory. The ones made about 10 -15 years ago are more durable and in some cases are actually FASTER than some of the entry level laptops for sale today. I highly recommend an IBM Thinkpad. These laptops, while not ruggedized, are nearly indestructible and can be easily upgraded and repaired. It's a pity that many of these laptops are destined for the landfill because of Microsoft's more stringent hardware requirements when it comes to upgrading to Windows 11. Windows 10's EOL will be in October next year so Linux is a good way to extend the life of many of these systems.
I think we can put Linux on all these computers and give them to underprivileged children or something. Or you could string them all together and make some kind of inexpensive supercomputer? I am not enough of a nerd to know for sure, but there has to be something badass we can do with enough of these laptops put together.
@@JordanJJereb You could give them to underprivileged children but I wish people would wake up to the fact that the computers made 10 years ago are perfectly capable of running day to day tasks like checking email and watching movies. No need to keep buying new computers every 2-3 years. It's such a a waste of resources. Even the gamers figured out that you can take a 10 year old computer, put in a new video card and it can still run the latest games.
I personally like getting a USB key that has the linux logo on it that way I know for certain which one it is- And I keep them in my bugout bags. They go for as little as 3$ on websites like Amazon. There are many distributions of Linux. You got Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Mandriva for example. Linux is open source so lots of little communities get together and make their own distributions. If I were you I would study up on Linux a bit. You can make a USB boot drive yourself- There are numerous ways to do this. And I am not a total Linux nerd so my channel is not the best for the specifics of that. There are much better channels. I would just study up on it. Inform yourself about open source software in general because there is so much great free open source software.
I am glad you like the video, friend. I would appreciate it if you subscribed if you have not already. I plan on uploading plenty of informative videos your not going to want to miss.

Download a bunch of movies and stuff. Also PDF files and textfiles with valuable information.
