Actually Eddie Levert had two sons who sung…both were part of the group called LEVERT and tragically, they both passed way too soon. Gerald was also part of the supergroup LSG featuring him, Keith Sweat and Johnny Gill.
As a white guy from Detroit who lived most of my life in California, I was into Motown and all the bands that came out of Philly. I was was accused of wanting to be black by my Army buddies because I listen to the black sound scene in the 60's and 70's.from those two cities. I didn't care what people said about me honestly! Still don't to be honest. That music was so smooth and to this day, I still listen and love the music that all the those great bands put together. Sorry but the music was the best in the 60's and 70's!

"i keep getting all these visits from my friends.. they come to my house, again and again and again.. so are they there to see my woman... I DON'T EVEN BE HOME, BUT THEY JUST KEEP ON COMING..." writing lyrics the way people actually talk is so cool..

Hi Amber and Jay, I am a 74 year old woman and I think you’re wonderful. You were just talking about the O’Jays and wishing you had some more music similar to theirs. You need to check out Tavares. The first song you should listen to of theirs is,Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel. “1976” Make sure you watch the one where they’re dancing as well as singing. They are five brothers. They have one other brother and a sister.
You MUST also react to LeVert, two sons of Eddie LeVert and one of their close friends. Sadly both of his sons have passed away but their music is timeless.
The O'Jays are so phenomenal and so underrated. Back Stabbers was BIG along with super unifying Love Train, and She Used to be My Girl. My best childhood radio memories.
Love the O'Jays! React to "I Love Music" next. Also, more from The Spinners "One Of A Kind" or "Could It Be I'm Falling In Love". Tavares is another good soul group. React to "It Only Takes A Minute" Thanks. 😎
I can honestly say my mom and us kids were in front of our little tv on a Saturday morning watching this episode of Soul Train when it originally aired on our local TV station. Soul Train was a Saturday morning staple. This was good.
Soul Train, and the others (Midnite Special) were appointment TV growing up. There were no letters like VCR or PVR etc. This song is OK but Use Ta Be My Girl is by far the best O’Jays, IMO. Do check it out, a Soul Train version of course. There are two versions, one with principally the band and the other with only the Soul Train dancers. Do they make music like this in 2024? Hell no. But at least we can recall the tunes of the ‘70s. The only thing is the songs were too dang short.
A little trivia....They may be part of the sound of Philadelphia, but the O'Jays originally hail from our hometown of Canton, Ohio. Yes, that one. The home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Everybody talks about the guy in the right , Eddie Levert , rightfully so, yes he is such an expressive singer and one of the most dynamic performers , but the guy on the left is just as important to the group. Walt Williams is such a smooth singer and equally smooth performer, these guys brought it in every single performance , in the studio and on stage!
The two members who were the most prominent singers in this video are Walt Williams (the one with the mustache and afro), and the one on the far right who sings most of the song is Eddie Levert. Williams and Levert are both still alive in their early 80s and perform from time to time. The man in the center is William Powell one of the original founders of the group who passed in 1977.
One of the episodes of the 2000s show "Cold Case" featured this song and the episode was that the deceased wrote the song and recorded it with a woman singing the lyrics and that the one that recorded it took it and gave it to the O'Jays.
Hi guys, love your channel! I'm a radio DJ/host in Connecticut. TThe O'jays are still putting out kick-ass new music! Try The Rich Keep Getting Richer. I play them on my show, which is as eclectic as your show. Our station is free-form, meaning the DJs can mix genres on the fly if they want to. But I'm not here to promote that. I love your reactions to all the music of from my childhood to now. And I hope to suggest some one day with more thought, keep on keeping on! And my daughter's name is Amber, too!
One of a string of hits for the OJAYs!! "Love Train" is their anthem one that brings ALL people together. Their music is still highly appreciated by today's generation..."Money, Money, Money", "Smiling Faces", "Use Ta be My Girl", "Forever Mine", "I Love Music"...70s da best!!
The first singer is Walter Williams, the guy in the middle is William Powell who has sadly passed, and the final guy is Eddie LaVert, father of Gerald and Sean LeVert of the singing group LaVert. Sadly both of Eddie's sons died as well. Walter and Eddie are the only original guys left of the Ojays. The Ojays just finished their last tour and announced their retirement from the road. ❤❤❤
"Forever Mine" by the O'Jays is one that no one has mentioned in the comments...the guy you love so much is lead. Also, "Lady" by The Spinners is another classic.
LOVE the O'Jays!!! I was working with a BEAUTIFUL young Black woman (23 years younger than I). One day she walked by me and suddenly turned towards me and said, "What they do?" I sang "They smile in your face, and all the time they want to take your place. The Backstabbers. Backstabbers." She smiled at me and said," And that's why I love you." I walked her home after work, and we've been in a relationship ever since! I LOVE you, Yesha!! and it's such a good story!!
The voice on the right is Eddie Levert, the father of Gerald and Sean Levert, both members of the R&B group LeVert. Sadly both brothers passed less than two years apart in the mid to late 2000's
Vocalist on the right is the amazingly talented "Mr. Eddie Lavert ( Gerald Lavert's Father) and on the Left is "Mr. Walter Williams. Eddie and Walter played parts in the moving The fighting Temptations with Cuba Gooding Jr. and Beyonce. They played the part of the barbers.
Guys keep talking about Motown, but the O'Jays were not Motown -- they were the Philly Sound, on the Philadelphia International label.
I don't think they're talking about Motown as a geographical location, but as a music genre. There's even British acts that were "Motown".
Glad you caught that. When they said Motown I scratched my head and thought " I think from Philly"

I hate to say it, but the O'Jays were never a Motown artist.
Motown is great
The O'Jays mostly recorded on Philadelphia International Records *The Philly Sound *
Philly International
@@Spo-Dee-O-DeeAnd you can really hear it in this song.
Tavarez has been suggested many times, hopefully they'll get to them soon.
I can honestly say my mom and us kids were in front of our little tv on a Saturday morning watching this episode of Soul Train when it originally aired on our local TV station.
Soul Train was a Saturday morning staple.
This was good.
I Love Music is another great song of theirs and of course there’s a Soul Train version
Happy memories of my 70's teenage. Phenomenal track!
Used Ta Be My Girl by them is my favourite too!! 🎉🎉 along with Forever Mine! 😊
A little trivia....They may be part of the sound of Philadelphia, but the O'Jays originally hail from our hometown of Canton, Ohio. Yes, that one. The home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Soul Train! No offense J and Amber, but your generation has no idea. This show was unbelievably exciting!
I wanted y'all to do this song!!
I was ten years old when this came out and remember it vividly. What a great song. Thanks for reacting to this.
Another song with a similar message you should check out is “ smiling faces” by the undisputed truth
I have made suggestions for the undisputed truth with various music reaction channels and so far no one has reacted to any of their songs.
The lyrics “smiling faces sometimes tell lies“ is from the song Smiling Faces Sometimes by the undisputed truth.
Yes I saw that on start
Love that one!🎉🎉 You're right Gerald is great in that one, Eddie too. 😊
The Ojays singing live on Soul Train singing " Stairways to heaven" you are going to love it.
This is one of the greatest early 70s song, vocally and musicilly its a masterpiece
My late husband loved the O'Jays. Thank you for this.
This is the music of my youth & better believe I still listen to classic 70s R&B soul ..
Used to Be My Girl was their biggest hit. It was their crossover hit. Of course the 90s group Levert, the sons of Eddie Levert, the lead singer.
The one on the far right with the afro, his name is Walter Williams.
Good classic music selection. ✌️😎
The O’Jays,Four Tops, and another group called the Spinners were the Philly Sound.
The Four Tops were Motown, Detroit City
4 Tops Motown act.
