I’ve been taping my mouth for a few years now. It’s phenomenal how much healthier my teeth are because of the saliva not drying out. I also get better sleep. And when I went through menopause, I had not one symptom. I use micropore paper tape but you can get mouth tape - it’s just really expensive compared to a roll of paper tape.

Speaking of stress on the heart, as well as the lungs, sleeping on your left side will cause similar issues because of the weight of your liver putting pressure on those important organs. Fantastic review of sleep disordered breathing, but I think it's important to note that mouth taping is not a sleep apnea treatment - it often can help, especially if used in combination with known therapeutic treatments (i.e. (C/A/Bi/E-PAP and oral devices) but the evidence for mouth tape alone actually treating OSA is very poor.

I’m 67 and have enlarged prostate. I use intermittent fasting and keto/carnivore lifestyle, along with 15000 average steps daily. I use melatonin and that helps to get to sleeping, but inevitably I get up to pee average 2-3 times nightly. I’m no longer prediabetic and feel that my hypothyroidism is much better than it was a couple years ago. I have numbness on the bottom of my feet, but maybe that’s because of many steps daily. If you could give suggestions for better sleep and foot numbness, I’d be very happy. I will see a doctor after just starting Medicare and not having a physical or blood works for over 2 years, but I don’t have a whole lot of faith in the medical system these days, especially after the Covid film/flam!

Besides mouth breathing, there isn't enough talk about the epidemic of recessed/underdeveloped jaws, narrow palates and small airways in the modern human.
I am a nasal breather and have been my whole life, yet I still have apnea (I'm not overweight). So this appears to be due to a recessed jaw/narrow palate. There are some options for this such as palatal expansion or jaw surgery but help for this, especially in the UK seems very limited.
I'd be very interested to see you check your intermolar width and look into palate/jaw issues which can cause subtle breathing issues both day and night and lead to a whole host of bodily dysfunction.

These are supposed to keep it from flopping flop back into your throat at night. Thoughts about this?

In my opinion, mouth breathing at night has a lot to do with jaw and tongue position when not conscious.
For me, if I shift my jaw forward, I can breath a lot better through the nose as my tongue is no longer blocking the airflow, but I need to consciously hold this position...
I doubt the tape will help here, but I will give it a try...

Take a empty little 30 ml spray bottle. Like the little nasal spray bottles. Fill it to 3/4 with boiled and cooled tapwater. Add 4 drops of tea tree essential oil and tiny bit of baking soda. Shake well and use this as a nasal spray. It will dissolve the mucus blocking your nose. Use a commercial nasal spray to open up the nasal passage further before bed. Just my 2 cents...but it helped me a lot. Good luck.

No idea if taping your mouth shut while you're sleeping will help you sleep better, but if you leave the tape on during the day, it will improve the lives of people around you😅

Nope. Mouth taping scares me! I have a standard, flat pillow that I fold over, hug to keep my shoulder supported and up against my chin to keep my head and neck in a good position to maintain a good airway and mouth closed.

I did the mouth tape for about 6 months. I didn't see much of a difference but still do it from time to time.
    (I eat Carnivore).
My question is...if it's not found in "nature" or was a custom among healthier communities/civilizations, then why are we advocating for mouth taping?
In other words, the strong jaw and masculine features of say Native Americans were from eating elk and bison, and sleeping on earth. They were constantly grounding. As a Native American myself, learning about grounding was a game changer. Made a lot of sense so I added it to my life about 6 years ago.
So, if ancient healthier civilzations who ate high fat, feasts and fasted, moved a lot (I hasten not to say "exercise"), but didn't mouthtape, then shouldn't mouth taping be re-considered if you're already doing the thing, i.e. eating meat and exercising, getting sun, that produced healthy people?

I always figured mouth taping was for those whose mouth/jaw didn’t develop properly due to poor diet and lifestyle while growing up.

@@Viralskeptic-d3z I realize that. I've done it, but I still haven't found the answer to my query.
How can we recommend an unnatural solution to a natural problem? My ancestors didn't have mouth tape but they survived and thrived all the same on deer and elk hunting, later cattle and sheep here on the ranch. Living into their 90s.
It's just a thought I've had along the way.
Yes, I know all the benefits of it, watched hours of videos, but then I see the some people are eating foods which disrupt sleep which I don't eat. It rather cancels out what you're trying to achieve.
