    Once again I am faced with the insanity that a band that can lay down a groove this hard and heavy isn't selling millions upon millions of albums? It's akin to taking a can of spam over a hand-made gourmet meal.

    Ta Fete is one of my absolute favourite DL covers so it was great to see your reaction to this. The fat sound on bass / synth is awesome and I'd love to hear it used more!

    Yeah this is a good one!
    The opening part is in this scale: 1 b2 3 4 5 b6 b7. I usually think of this as phrygian major (which isn't even a thing), but it's actually the 5th mode of the harmonic minor scale. The bass and synth unison vamp is in phrygian. Seems the band is quite fond of that for those heavier parts.
    But the best part of this entire track is the bass work in the 2nd verse. That high string is squiggle is perfect!

    Fantastic musicians. Discovered them just a few months ago (even though I am Swedish, shame on me) I have listened through most of DL and notice that they seem to be influenced by different music styles within, my favorites in the 70's, jazz / funk / prog / fusion genre. Such as Chic Corea, Larry Coryell, Eleventh House, Al Di Meola, Return To Forever, Stanley Clarc etc etc. Also fragments of the late Swedish pianist Jan Johansson! (Work Shit Out). I had to listen through most of my old vinyls yesterday and they still sounds so good. By the way, you are one of my favourite music reactors (did I spell that right?) Cheers

    Great reaction as always. Check out another Swede called Frank Ådahl, when he singing "Nothing you can do about it". It is on a dedication album for David Foster. He has got plenty of offers, to go internationally, but he has always refused. His voice is on of a kind. Cheers from Italy. Alsoo check out his singing on Tomi Malm's ablum. It is insane!

      Apparently Aron, who sometimes comes up with the lyrics, is known to write gibberish lyrics for Jonah, and then tells him to keep all the vowels at the end of the lines, with Jonah then trying to come up with lyrics that make some kinda sense… 😜

      @@StrateleStudios Ohh, my taste in music is a bit harder and there is so much good music out there, but since we are on Swedish musicians check out Orbit culture with “Saw” or Avatar “Blody angel” or Opeth “Harlequin Forest” It’s a mix of harsh and clean vocals and may not be your taste but the musicians are incredible talented, next level stuff. I understand if you don’t react to them, it’s a bit different to Dirty loops.

    Are you sure that fat sound comes from a synth? I'd guess it's Henrik switching the bass through some kind of dist box.

    • @StrateleStudios
      @StrateleStudios  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Synth. I can hear Henrik doubling it with his bass. Definitely not a distortion box because I can hear a slow attack on it. Definitely some synthy ADSR happening there.

      Great question! This is just my opinion but based on what is hailed as successful commercial music is so simplified to be accessible to as many people as possible (I call it "baby food"). The thing I LOVE about DL is that they don't play that game and what they do blows my mind from a sophisticated and technical musical standpoint. What I get out of it others won't...that clever modulation or awesome use of secondary dominant chords, etc. That's lost on the public at large. I think their primary focus is to make amazing music and that's the driving force. I'd venture to guess they are humbled by the amount of success they've gain to THIS point. So to answer your question I wouldn't change a thing! :) BUT you never know, they could come out with a breakout hit when we least expect it, wouldn't that be awesome? I keep coming back to this comment and adding more, hahaha. You got me going...hahaha. Ok last point...the only other band that I can think of that managed to pull this off was Steely Dan. They were able to write music that really touched people but there was jazz oozing throughout all of it. This can happen with Dirty Loops too. Both bands can maintain their integrity and still have some mass appeal. (which is is kind of contrary to what I first said but I like this position better!) :) :) :)

    • @birger4788

      @@StrateleStudios Really interesting answer, been thinking about this too. I’ve got some music friends from my childhood (attended the same elementary music school as Jonah and Henrik) who grew up on Steely Dan, Gentle Giant, Jethro Tull, Pat Metheny, you name it. And most of them haven’t heard of Dirty Loops. And we’re Swedish! Explain that if you can?
      Hopefully tours, if it gets rolling now, will create awareness about them in a greater circle. And consistency in putting out new material, as you and I said earlier, the wait for Loopified and the wait after that for Phoenix almost made me give up on them. Hell, I’m 63 and 3-5 years of waiting feels like a long time 🤣
