Thanks Richard. I have never seen a lens to focus perfectly fin indoors and not at all outside. I think it could be a faulty motor in this one. I'll try to get another one to test this more. Have you tried it yet?
@@PavSZ Pav, No not yet, I am waiting for their Z mount version as I have all those AF 50mm f/1.8 from other companies in Z mount so I want to do a comparison
I looked at the Sony FE and it just didnt sound like the bees knees. The 7artisans is a bit big and heavy for what it is but the image quality really is stellar. F1.8 is slightly soft and dreamy which makes amazing portraits. By F2 its ~80% max sharpness in the center. At F2.2 its ~90% as sharp as can be in the center. F2.8 is max center sharpness and by ~F3.2 the entire frame is razer sharp. Probably the single biggest downside is the sensitivity to flares when shooting into direct light or if theres a backlight on your subject. I decided to keep the lens as my only 50mm because of the phenomenal image quality. It's on par with the sony zeiss 50mm that's 4-5x the price except for the flare. A minor thing to look out for. Just slap a tiny bit of black electoral tape over that meh MF/AF switch and that issue is solved. Oh yeah, low light AF is not thr best and hunts a lot. Hopefully they improve fhat in firmware. Outdoor AF is no issue on mine that I got about a month ago.
@@PavSZ there's no perfect lens. They all come with some sort of issue even if it's a $1000 lens. Almost nothing out there is flare free and razer sharp wide open. Of course there are plenty of options however
@@Kabab I totally disagree because there are lenses like that. My Sony 50mm f1.2 GM is a good example. It is razor sharp wide open, no chromatic aberration and flaring is really minimal, sometimes it is hard to make it flare at all. You get what you pay for, and you can't compare that to $200 lens
@@PavSZ yes but that's a $2k lens. If you're in the market for a $2k lens, this video is pretty much pointless. If you're looking at the sub $1k mark, this lens is really not bad at all. However I do understand you completely and don't disagree. But for $200, this lens is quite good. It's definitely better than the Sony EF 50mm 1.8
For me who travels ,The only disadvantage is that it is a little heavy, but This price is considered worth it, lenses from China may not be that good. But it's a good choice. For people who don't have a lot of money, I give this lens a 3.9 / 5 rating.
Is it better than sony 50 f1.8 fe lens. I felt the colors were better on sony and stabilization too on sony. Please share your opinion both for photo and video between sony vs 7artisans.
Optically, this lens is better but it has a few issues. Both these 50mm are flawed though, that's why they are cheap. Try Viltrox instead, similar price.
I put a small strip of black electrical tape over it. Can't even see it and the problem is gone. The lens is stellar regardless of the price. Hopefully they update the AF in firmware and solve the minor annoyance of its accuracy in low light. Otherwise, the bit of glare when shooting into light is annoying but that's it.
I am excited to see how this lens is!
who isn't it? 😉
Pav, great review as usual! It's interesting you found the AF works better outdoor, opposite to what I expect
Thanks Richard.

I think optically this might be better than the Sony overall but it has many other problems, too many of them

So would you suggest to go for the 7artisans one or the Sony FE?
Maybe its indoor lens? 🤔but jokes a side it looks beautiful and photos you took with it was pretty! 😎
thanks!
You have to tell me how you shoot this video, using what lens and the settings. It is absolutely clean and crisp !!!
I think it was filmed with Sony a7sIII and Sony 35mm f1.8 FE lens.
I shot it in 4k 24p

I have the lens, it is sharp and decent focus speed but the AF/M switch ruins it all
for me too

would you prefer this 7artisans 50mm over sigma 30mm for apsc camera?
no, Sigma is way better
Was the outdoor autofocus in video ever fixed? That seems like a huge issue tbh
I don't know
Sony 50mm GM is one of the sharpest lens in the world. The price is right.
it is. It is also one of the most expensive 50mm out there too
Anyone had a chance to compare this with the Meike 50mm f1.8 AF?
not me
@@PavSZ thx anyway
Does it work on Sony zve10
yes, Sony-E mount version
Funciona na A6400? 🙏🏻
it should do. E-mount version of course
@@PavSZ I found this lens incredible, I have a Sony A6400, I would like to know if it works...
