    I’ve had a wave for 4 years and I am just learning about the key ring!

    Have had and used the Wave for years, always frustrated that I would pull the serrated blade instead of straight edge; just realized the serrated one has marks at the top of the back side of the blade to extinguish this. Just found out about the lanyard hole from this video; thanks for the video and I hope my comment helps save others the frustration!

    I wish they would make a Wave with that magical steel that was used to forge Excalibur. You need the absolute best steel there is for a multitool so that you can do all those chores that a multitool is regularly used for, like chopping and batoning wood, killing wild hogs or melting down the multitool and using the steel to build a suspension bridge that fully loaded 18 wheelers can drive over. Who cares if it's way overpriced? You need that top shelf steel.

    Just ordered the wave + directly from Leatherman. They were running a special, 20% off for the tool with the leather sheath, $79.96. They call it the heritage wave plus. I have a surge in my get home bag with the 41 piece bit kit and extender. I'm putting together a new edc pouch with the Vanquest huge maximizer and the wave + will go in that. Hard to beat Leatherman's quality and 25 year warranty. I broke the tip of the flathead screwdriver on my surge trying to pry something and they replaced it and shipped it back to me in less than two weeks. Excellent!

  • @jjones2582
    @jjones2582 6 ปีที่แล้ว +33

    I'm wishing they would bring back the original tool design (not in the form of a $275 collectors edition). It was thinner than most of the newer designs which have fatter handles and therefore it was more pocketable, but still had most of the tools.

    I don't leave the house with my Leatherman Wave+ in a sheath on my belt, so used to it if I repair or fix something at my workbench with all the tools I need handy , I still grab my wave+ many times.

    I’m so happy that they have the replaceable wire cutters. That’s one reason I preferred the Rebar. I find the Rebar is good for working around the house because of the longer Phillips and awl. But for all around utility the Wave wins. I often need that jewelers screwdriver and scissors.

  • @ashbrown1212
    @ashbrown1212 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I think all they need to do now is make the pliers spring-loaded and that's it - the perfect multi tool. One of my tests for any multi tool is can you wire a plug with it? In the UK the answer is usually no, because you need that needle flat-head/Philips screwdriver to complete the job. The Wave passes that little test

  • @MrDirtybandit

    What they should have also changed besides the plier head is to get rid of the serrated edge blade, and put the large scissors from the surge and replace small scissors with an awl

      I think the wave is best as it is I use the serrated blade alot and the surge scissors are probably too big to fit+you can take a bit from the bit kit and sharpen it to turn it into an awl

    I own a wave plus and purchased an extra bit kit , bit extender and a larger sheath that accommodates all the extras as well as the tool it's self I also have a 1/2 " by 6 " ferro rod that fits into an elastic sleeve on the side of the larger sheath I definitely recommend the bit extender it accommodates leatherman bits and also standard driver bits

    I don't know if my Wave came faulty but I find that mini glasses screwdriver useless (both ends, the Phillips head as well as the flat head) because they will not fit into the screw, they're too thick. This particular tool is not up to par with Leatherman's Swiss competitor, Victorinox. All other tools are great and comparable with Victorinox.

    I choose the wingman over the wave because of the spring action, lighter and the scissors are bigger.

    • @la.4556
      @la.4556 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I really can't decide which leatherman model to get. My prefferable tools are pliers, knife, saw and scissors, don't really care much about other things. Wingman seems to lack the saw, sidekick, scissors. Wave + has both, but the price is also double for having only one usefull tool more which I would preffer. Bummer. Any tips? I also heard about the "mods" but I doubt it would be possible to add scissors to sidekick for example, without spending a fortune, in which regard, I would just go for wave +.

    That’s great that they added the replaceable wire cutters. I wish they could make the handles in aluminum instead of steel so that they could lighten the tool. I’ve been asking them for years and never got a response. I also wish they could put the Juice scissors instead of the ones they have on there now. It’d be perfect with those scissors and with a light weight handle.

      Warblerab 295 I agree, ditch that redundant big flat screwdriver for an awl. I wonder if there is a DYI mod for that?

    • @Heikki_Finland
      @Heikki_Finland 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No! The flat screwdriver is great for prying paint can lids and such. Take the bit kit if you have it and find the most useless bit and sharpen the end of it, it works just fine. I actually made a whole new awl-bit from a broken drill bit.

    I'm sure the replaceable wire cutter compromises the strength of the pliers, but how much? Too much? I can see the benefit but it worries a bit. Well i guess they have tested and think this is the way to go. It has the warranty after all.

    Please people, stop spending money paying more on multi tools and knives then what they’re worth, only buy when discounted on sale or clearance. They are marked up so much and over inflated what an easy market to make money off of sheeple. I bought a Leatherman wing man about four years ago-plus for 24.99 on sale I see the cheapest anywhere is going for 40 bucks what a disgrace. it’s an outdated design but effective yet they keep charging more money for it because idiots keep buying them for higher prices. I just bought a Leatherman wave for $57 I would not pay anymore for that.
