The Netherlands has admitted they had found the Omicron variant weeks before South Africa reported it, So Omicron is already in Europe and that is probably where it came from, Germany and the rest of Europe will soon be under Omicron's control.
True, but its also important about how widespread infection is, the problem is that South Africa has a low vaccination rate ( I heard vaccine hesitancy is very high there), and other nearby countries also have similarly low rates. At least until we know the current vaccines work against this, then there is no choice but to block travel from the highest risk areas. That and we will all need testing to travel again for abit lol. Still, South Africa made the right call, unlike the CCP they didnt wait until the whole world was on the verge of lockdown to give details. The travel ban will probably be lifted like India's was in a few months once omicron is known. The alternative was to pull a chinese communist party move and pretend its ok till it obviously isnt, then watch as the world burns lol.

If the omnicorn is less deadly than Delta/other ones then the advantage is that even if it spreads a lot, it wont be as deadly as others.
Deaths/cases will be considerably less.

We won't know for a month. People who become infected are not generally hospitalized for a while, then another few days before they end up on a ventilator and another few weeks before the body gives up. Unfortunately, we have no idea how lethal this strain will be until early next year. Fingers crossed it's a dud like Lamda!
But a virus that spreads faster within population mutates faster. Virus is also trying to survive. The next mutation could be deadlier.

I dont think we can compare cases vs deaths for now. Its not like people die as soon as they get this variant, there could be a lag for death graph as this is a new variant. We should be cautious.

Very true because that’s the incubation period. So we wouldn’t see the spike in deaths until that period and further on.

The comparison of cases and death graph is not comparing apples with apples. It takes time for an infected person to get sick and then die. So you cannot compare cases VS deaths for the same dates.

It's too early to tell if omicron is less deadly. The death graph usually follows the infection graph by 2 weeks. So, if SA had reported 800 infections on 23rd Nov, we have to wait atleast for 7th Dec to say anything.

This is the final mutation. Mild one and group immunity as well
evolutionary study suggests that viruses can mutate to become more deadly or less deadly and more transmissible too, and clearly delta proved it that viruses CAN in fact become MORE deadly. Also, when a virus spreads too much, it's going to mutate, and looking at omicron's level of transmission, we're undoubtedly going to have another variant within a few months and we definitely can't predict it's severity.
Somehow this seems to be around the time of year that I have gotten a seasonal flu, over the years, but none of those past flu's had a *Cool named like OMICRON*

Well, the death graph generally lags behind infections graph by about 2 weeks. This is because majority of deaths occur after slow build up of complications.
If all travelers have to undergo quarantine and vaccination just to be allow to travel by health authorities, then all these Omicron cases were transmitted worldwide by vaccinated travelers? ..

US didn’t ask for RTPCR test, test has to be rapid antigen, pcr or rtpcr a day prior to travel.

Deaths comes with a time lag of 2-3 weeks.... We know when cases peak deaths peak 2-3 weeks after that due to the time lag. We can't say how deadly this new variant is.... Till now it isn't showing increased fatalities, but real fatalities due to this variant will be visible after 2 weeks, so hold tight n hope that this variant is less fatal than delta.
Gravitas channel should talk to a real expert before putting out misleading claims about deaths. This is stupid reporting. We will know the real death toll in few weeks.

Exactly. We won't know death rates whatsoever until early next year. People who contract this strain won't even be hospitalized for a bit. Then it will be several weeks normally before the body gives up. Until the new strain hits vulnerable populations, like seniors, we won't know how lethal it truly is... I live in eastern Canada. Where I live, masks have been reinstated for several months. I believe it was summer. We are required to show vax pass for indoor dining, group events, etc. We have a 90+% vaccine rate and children aged 5+ are now eligible!!! Canada approved Pfizer (and I think Moderna) for kids a few weeks ago.
We have had 0 deaths where I live. We have only had one senior hospitalized for a few days. No ICU stays. Its been a god send to live in an area with very tough restrictions! ❤️ Honestly.

Same reason they are blocking flights from high risk areas when they get new variants, they need to keep the new cases down to avoid stretching health care staff. But its better than hiding it like the Chinese govt did, gives us a chance to avoid another 2 year pandemic, and the travel ban will probably be lifted in a few months when the vaccination rate rises, or if cases go down, or we find out its true nature. Sucks to have a local travel ban, but beats a global one.
