Still can’t believe there are 400 of these just sitting in storage in Jordan having just been retired, yet we’d rather give away 12 Chally 2s instead. 🙄
Aye; the madness of politicians 🫤 . (particularly giving the CR1's away when the full order of 600 CR2's had been cut back was absurd in the first place, especially when considering there were options to update CR1's FCS and other systems)
^ False. It was in the early 00's that CR1 was retired and sold off, and Tony Bliar's lot as well that cut back the CR2 order. Swinging & pointless cuts to defence were a constant feature of the Bliarite years.

@@GuyWilson706 no that's not it, it's the fact the Chally 2 retains the same engine and power train as the chally 1 but puts on like 10 tons more... Chally 2 should have 1500hp not 1200hp! Justice for the Chally 2!
@@chrisbacon3071 I agree with you completely, it is a crime using the same engine etc, when could of been a much bigger monster with English industry actually giving a damn. I would stand by challenger 1 any day - but there is something about the chalky 2 that is very very sexy MBT
@@GuyWilson706 well there was a Challenger 2 with a 1500hp engine and 10 speed gearbox (+45mph & -21mph with 6 gears) , it's called the Challenger 2E (E standing for export) it also had gen 2 thermals for the Gunner, Commander & Driver! It was to be sold to Greece but they didn't want it, after that I think the tank was ether put in storage or reverted back to a base Challenger 2.
@chrisbacon3071 As I understand it - from discussions with various vet's and enthusiasts - the Perkins Condor V12 can produce more than 1,500hp... but the standard Gearbox wasn't enthusiastic 😅 . The Army also tested a couple of CR2's with upped HP. Reportedly in full battle kit using such a burst of speed offroad was not great as it was causing the Tank to shed bits of kit 😂 . (needless to say, MBT's that hefty do have a price to pay for trying to go faster than about 40mph) It's also of note that the Perkins Condor V12 originated as s Locomotive Generator, thus wasn't the ideal choice due to not being am engine designed for direct drive or revving.
CR1's younger sister shrugged those off easily 😂 . (at least 15 RPG's & 1 Milan ATGM hits on a single vehicle; only significant damage was the gunners sight being destroyed; the vehicle was back in action within hours)
