@@whyshouldishowmyname848 Yes, it is a bit modernised although MG42 is still put to good use in Afghanistan and some other countries. Meaning MG42 was many decades ahead of any other light machine gun. Hugo Schmeisser was a genius.
@Eye Patch Guy I don't know Browning's designs used in ww2 that well, beside 1911 pistol, BAR and M2 heavy machine gun. It is known design of revolutionary weapons like Stg44/AK47 requires a team of specialists, although all names are not known at the end. What's you favourite Browning design? @@fuckcommunist1340 Do you show love to your communist boyfriend like this? Anyway, it is true Schmeisser didn't design MP40. His creation (rest of the team also helped because one man can't make such improvements) was MP18 in 1918, first submachine gun in the world that made basis to most submachine guns until 60's. Then Stg44 which was first assault rifle, many patents and probably also worked on at least parts of AK47. Guess Russians wouldn't release him half a year later than other prominent German weapon designers, if he was not up to something important there. We also know one man couldn't make such weapon despite having example of Stg revisions.
1:42 Is this the Teufelslied? For those who ask: No it‘s a song called „Grüne Teufel“. It was rewritten for the Bundeswehr (the german army after WW2). To be able to sing the song, they changed things like „SS marschiert“ to „Ja wer marschiert“ or Wolgastrand (a polish river) to Oderstrand (a german river). Still a very critical song.
@@Patriotgal1 Well, the MG-42 is, in a derivative, still used to this day by the german Military as the MG3 so, I suppose on a purely engineering standpoint it is basically the German M2HB, just in different caliber. I sadly never had the luck to shoot an MG, or any gun really outside of videogames(tho H3VR does make up for that...kinda), due to European weapon laws, but even shooting those guns in Videogames will get...considerably worked up...
@@LunaNicoleTheFox The MG3 is currently getting phased out of the german military. It is a fine machine gun but not a very good one for infantry because it was build to be interchangeable between, planes, armored vehicles and infantry. This comes with drawbacks for the infantry as too high rate of fire and poor ergonomics. I expect a shitton of african warlords and mujahedeen to get nice christmas presents soon.
fun fact : during my time in the bundeswehr 10 years ago we still had to shoot the MG42 ( MG3 ) and it could happen that one of these still had a 1940's stamp.
Am in voluntary military service right now. We're still shooting the MG3. It's a very good gun considering the age but the new MG5 is my favorite. Mainly because of the scope.
Well the Mg34 actually had a much higher fire rate and that proved to be a bit too much to handle. So a more accurate version would be: Mg42 makers: how fast should it shoot? Hitler: slower than the last one for gods sake. O and make it a little cheaper. Mg42 makers: say no more.
In the Estonian army MG-3 is in use today. I remember one time we had US marines with us in training and they wanted to try the MG-3. We sayd ok and scheduled the fireing next day. They came, about 5 men and each had 10 bullets with them :D This made us laugh as the 10 bullets to this mashine gun is nothing (1000-1200 shots in a minute). We gave them loaded belts of 200 bullets and iv never seen such happy marines after they fired. Like happy little kids giggling and high-fiveing. Made my day for sure. Thanks for bringing the memorie back!
we used it in the German Air force as well of cause. I was able to squeeze out 7 bursts out of a belt with 15 rds. I can tell, all rumors are wrong : I t is very controllable and it is very precise. Hitting targets @ 800 m is no problem .
Doesn't make much sense there. As Russia is the place you go to for wife beating, we even legalized wife beating! So Russia would be the father in this scenario. Man... my country is a shitshow.
A frind of me has the MP40, the MP38, the Tommy gun and the PPSh. I personally love the WWII Tommy and the MP38 in her wood stock, it gives you as a sport shooter significant advantage in terms of gun control and precision. Also the mp38 has some features dealing with comfort and safety. But the MP40 is the more common and mass produced cheaper brother, it’s a real must have classic
MG-42 even today is an incredible MG, as is the MP-40 and incredible SMG. The STG-44 is also a formidable, and very historic rifle. MG-34 also very good.
The German Army in early 1944 made an official decision to replace the MG-42 as a squad weapon by replacing every weapon in the squad with the StG 44. The MG42 was to be moved up to Battalion level. Typically 3 men in the 12 (10-14) man squad were involved in operating or supporting the MG42. The NCO who lead the squad often had an MP40 and that would be replaced by a StG 44 as well.
MG-30 "cries softly" after not only not getting invited to the party but also having its place as the grandfather of the later german MGs usurped by the filthy MG-15.

Whatever your opinion about Nazi, you just have to respect the MG42. This beast destroyed of lot of allies during the WW2 and i bet one of the scariest sound during the war.
Allies may not have had the best weapons, but they did have the overall best concentration of effective weapons. For example, every infantryman in the US Army had an M1 Garand unless his job required something else (that usually had more firepower). Russians had SMGs to go around too, plus plenty of their own self-loading rifles. At the squad level, the only significant advantage for the Germans was the MG42, which they had quite a lot of and used well. And maybe the MP-40. Otherwise, it's Mauser bolt actions for them in overwhelming quantity.
German infantry mostly was armed with bolt-action rifles and one SMG per squad. MG-34 and MG42 were their only saviours. Soviets (after 1942) and Americans (also after 1942) were armed significantly better. Soviets had highest percentage of using of full-auto guns (and #2 in terms of semi-auto usage) while USA was giving M1 Garand basically to everyone (USMC was fully rearmed only in 1943 but still), while also giving up to 5 (!!!) lmg's for squad. USA and USSR had hella more firepower even if german MG was up. And if german LMG gunner got smoked...
I visited a guy in Belgium, a collector of WWII weaponry, & was immediately impressed by his Sherman Tank guarding his garden shed. I joke there because his 'playroom' is really a solidly built warehouse with a walk in safe to store his collection of pistols, rifles & machine guns. MG42 I recall seeing. All are in working order & he has a trench in his garden for live firing. "Do your neighbours complain about the noise?" I asked. He replied, No, the neighbours always get an invitation to come try the gear & maybe get a barbecue thrown in.
The fact that brandon is blasting german heavy metal is just amazing Germans: we made a light machine gun that fires 1,500 rounds per minute Russians: *proceed to do the same....... With a submachine gun*
I remember Ian talking about when he fired the MG 42, the fire rate had to be changed to prevent malfunctions to the weapon, if I remember correctly, the one he fired was at 900

Hugo Schmeisser and his team were decades ahead of everyone else. MG42, MP40, Stg44 could compete with most modern weapons if they improved them once. Most if not all other weapons of this type needed several generations to become good :-) It is great to see them shooting after 70+ years.
mg42 is actually modernised and used. Its designated as mg3
I really like Schmeisser's Stg44 and Vollmer's MG34.
Schmeißen din’t make the MP40 the Americana troops just gave the MP40 the nick name Schmesser

Typically 3 men in the 12 (10-14) man squad were involved in operating or supporting the MG42. The NCO who lead the squad often had an MP40 and that would be replaced by a StG 44 as well.

• Allied Forces: We have the best weapons
• German Machine Gunner: Hold my hot barrel.
Haha Maschinengewehr go brrt (sorry for misspelled word)
