    Barry Gibb wrote and produced all of the songs on this album. He's produced albums for Dionne Warwick, Diana Ross, songs for Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers, and quite a few others.

    Terrific reaction, Jack. There's actually a live performance of Barbra and Barry on this duet, during her "One Voice" concert which is great. They also perform live their other duet from the Guilty album, "What Kind Of Fool" and I highly recommend that one too. You are just scratching the surface with Barbra... wait... wait... you ain't seen nuthin' yet.

    Barry and his brothers wrote all the songs for this album. This is Barbra’s biggest selling album ever. Btw there is a live version of this along with them singing What Kind of Fool another duet from the album.

    I love the character in both Barbra & Barry's voice. I can hear the emotion of the song through their voices so well. The rhythm in their voice, the rise & falls, like the mountains they'll climb, the battles they'll fight to keep their love strong but also a nonchalant feeling toward what anyone else thinks of their love & what they are willing to do to keep it alive. I feel like I could hear all that. Very, very Nice request Dana.

    I wish I had better appreciated both these artists growing up. I thought that Streissand was more suited to stage and Broadway musicals, and I thought that (as an approximate 9 year old) that the future of humanity would be generally embarrassed by the music generated by the Bee Gees as too Disco-y to be taken seriously, but the older I get the more I miss that sound and appreciate their talents. I think I was just too young to understand and experience that music like fashion or anything else goes in cycles, so I had no clue what I was talking about. So here I am today 30ish years later appreciating what was going out on the radio waves when I was growing up: Blondie, Bee Gees, Prince, Michael, Madonna, Gordon Lightfoot, America, Poco, The Fixx, Duran Duran, Lou Rawls, Bread, Pet Shop Boys, Paul Davis, The Cure, etc. Maybe one of the best times to be alive since the 1960s or during Miles Davis cool jazz period or during Mozart's lifetime.

    • @richardherdman2121
      @richardherdman2121 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have to disagree. I do like seeing them perform live together, but the audio quality of that concert isn't the best. I think the Guilty album is such perfectly produced pop confection, that I"m glad Barbra barely ever sung any of it live. And I wouldn't say that about any other record in her huge catalogue.

    • @kthor
      @kthor ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@richardherdman2121 And I disagree, as think her concert & official album "One Voice" were excellent! The sound may not be up to your standards, but the album was certified Platinum in the US....and the chemistry between Barry & Barbra on their 2 duets is simply beautiful!🎶

    • @richardherdman2121
      @richardherdman2121 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kthor Yup, I got that from your original post. No right or wrong, just offering my contrasting opinion. And based on anecdotal evidence, I'm likely in the minority.
      This indeed went Platinum, but of her 31 Platinum albums, I'd probably put One Voice in my 5 least favorite. In the case of Streisand, that just means I like it but don't adore it. In fact, my absolute favorites of her entire 60+ album catalogue probably include more records that "only" went gold but not platinum (Color Me Barbra and Lazy Afternoon immediately come to mind).

  • @BrettTwinSavage
    @BrettTwinSavage ปีที่แล้ว +6

    A great reaction Jack! At the height of their Saturday Night Fever days, a reporter asked the Bee Gees who they would like most to produce. Their immediate response was "Barbra Streisand". That was the first step toward what would become the Guilty album. All tracks, except one, were written by the Brothers Gibb for Barbra. The album and it's lead single "Woman In Love" would top the charts, and the two duets with Barry (the title track and "What Kind of Fool") charted top 10.

    • @kthor
      @kthor ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Actually 5 of the 9 tracks were written by the brothers, 1 by just Barry, and 3 by Barry & Albhy Galuten (including What Kind of Fool). It was also produced by Gibb-Galuten-Richardson Production team (Barry, Albhy & Karl).🎼

      @BrettTwinSavage ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@kthor Thank you. You are correct. What I usually write is "by the Brothers Gibb (or some combination thereof)" and "produced by Barry and his team". I think it was Barry that responded "Barbra Streisand" when the group was asked the production question, but I have story as being told by Maurice and he didn't specify. (I can relate. I have a twin brother and we talk about things only one of us could have done and say "we". 🤣)

    Barbara went through a white phase. She was on Oprah one time with a white sweater, a pair of white pants and a white microphone. Oprah commented on the all-white look and mentioned she even brought her white microphone. Barbara said, "Oh, it's yours. We just painted it white". I was like, how you gonna come on Oprha's show and paint HER microphone and don't even ask her?".

    • @donnamentrasti2695
      @donnamentrasti2695 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Why would Oprah care about one of her microphones or what Barbra Streisand chose to do with it, when either of them could buy the entire company that manufactures them. I just love [NOT] when rumors get started, mostly in the media, and then thrown about like they even made sense, let alone having a shred of truth behind it. In fact, Oprah got a big kick out of it, and joked with Barbra about her monochromatic propensities.
