Not replaced. They have two major downsides: EXPENSIVE and efficiency losses. Think of them as specialized tools. We use them a lot in the offshore industry, because it is common for ships to hold position next to an oil rig, with no anchor. When your ship is within collision distance from an explosive oil rig, the extra maneuvering control from azimuth thrusters becomes very attractive.
@@DatawaveMarineSolutions Ah, okay. I can see in that kind of scenario where that could be a useful capability. Even though you give up shallow draft operation. Always thought about Naval architecture as a major. Very few schools offered it however. Just curious, where did you go to school? 🤔 1996 Temple University Engineering grad.
I'm currently discussing the possibility of a video right now with a company that manufactures toroidal props. I have to be careful about this one because DMS also works commercially with the company. More to come on this subject.
I never said I promoted them. And I never endorsed them. The goal is simply to offer insight into a typical vendor and show the additional questions that should develop in your mind. At the end of the video, I finished with several unanswered questions that are critical of Thrustmaster.
Thanks for the share.
Sharrow props would be interesting, but obviously expensive.
when are you doing a torroidal propeller video? can they used in kort nozles? can they used in jet drives?, ETC
🤔 so have these thrusters largely replaced the traditional fixed shaft drive?

Talk about toroidal propels
I'm currently discussing the possibility of a video right now with a company that manufactures toroidal props. I have to be careful about this one because DMS also works commercially with the company. More to come on this subject.
Why are you promoting them?
Not good.
