Dustin Brown Statue? Captained 2 Stanley Cup winning teams (more LA Stanley Cups than any other statue). 1296 NHL games played - 18 years - all with the Kings (franchise record). 7 times a +20 goal scorer and 6th all time in goals.
I think that is statue worthy. I hope he enjoys his retirement.

As an LA Kings fan - I get that at first glance it may seem weird to have a Brownie statue next to Gretzky, but to make an argument that would make me a pariah in every hockey oldhead conversation: Brownie won cups with LA. Did Gretz?

Here in Chicago. I have never heard that both Toews and Kane were for trading Panarin. I saw an interview with Kane at the start of training camp the following year and he stated that he was hurt to lose his buddy Panrin and that they never consulted him on the deal and he was shocked. I have heard that Toews requested to have a steady winger on his line. That previous year 2017 Toews had Richard Panik and a host of others on his line. What is known is that 2016-17 season Panarin had spoken in the media that he was looking forward to his next contract. I had a friend that was the Blackhawk's Assistant Athletic Trainer in 2017. That summer we had a few pops and he mentioned McEgo pulled Panarin in after his comments and chastised him for the comments.
Then the entire team had a terrible series vs the Preds and the die was cast. Had to blame someone and this is how McEgo operated. That's what you get when you have an egomaniac who knows nothing about hockey and a G.M. who never did anything hockey-related other than having daddy as a legendary coach. I can give you info on why the Blackhawks traded Henri Jokiharju.

Great take on Dustin Brown I don't know why so many people are so shocked he's getting a statue in LA it's not like it's going in front of the hall of fame or something, he's one of the most important players in the history of the Kings organization.. He was only the second American born Captain to win the Stanley Cup, the first Kings captain to lead them to a Stanley Cup, is the first Kings player to ever raise the Cup, is the NHLs leader in hits since they started getting recorded, and is the Kings all time leader in games played

I think a big part of Toews' comments is that this is the first deadline they've given up anything of value to signal a serious teardown. For as crappy as they've been, the best player they've given up in this stretch is.... Jan Rutta? They sure made a lot of fidgety deals but I can see this one driving home the "oh, no we *actually* suck now".

It's like Oilers Fans wanting Ryan Smyths Jersey retired but the franchises policy is not until they're in the hall of fame, but to the fan base Smytty is one of the greatest oilers of all time, right there with Gretzky and Messier. 842 points in 1270 games no cups no scoring titles likelihood of number 94 making it in the HHOF is slim. But to Fans it's an injustice and a tragedy if his 94 doesn't get retired.

The only place I've ever heard that Kane and Toews wanted the Panarin trade is from Adam. To my knowledge, they've always said they were surprised and disappointed by the trade. Despite the things we learned about 2010, I think they're still undoubtedly gonna get statues. As a fan that was born in the 2000s, last season was extremely hard to swallow. Watching the team you've loved crash and burn on and off the ice was devastating. So while its hard to realize JT and PK might not be there for the rest of they're careers, I can't say I blame them.

Hey guys! I'd love to give a bit of context on the ongoing committee work, hopefully it can help a bit:
-These committees aren't like what may be seen in the United States; while they have the power to call people to testify, there's no binding decisions coming out of committees for issues like this. It's beneficial to see the House of Commons committee system as an... advisory board? I guess might be the best way to describe it? As they don't really do much beyond drawing attention to issues (MindGeek investigation was a big one with a LOT of similarities to this situation) when they're not working through legislation.
-Hockey Canada is actually a not-for-profit, not a crown corporation or an actual division of the government. The reason MP's & the Canadian government bureaucrats are both getting involved is because of the funding provided (~6% of the annual budget according to Hockey Canada's latest annual report), and because of the regulation by Heritage Canada. The MP who asked Scott Smith to resign was a Conservative - NOT the government (Liberal rn), Nater doesn't have any power to force that.
-A vote in the House of Commons wouldn't... really be an option to remove the overall structure. There's some measures to lean on Hockey Canada (pulling the Armed Forces as a partner, pulling funding until the board is fired, or even pulling Hockey Canada from being the org. that can rep Canada on the world stage) that the House of Commons (in reality, the Liberal Government) could impose, but that's kind of it.
Excellent podcast, longtime listener despite being a Sens fan and the coverage you guys have had on this really difficult topic has been top notch. Keep it up!

Honestly feel like the Hawks-Vegas series in ‘20 was closer than the stats show. Hawks hit probably a billion posts which aren’t goals, but also aren’t sog either which could skew the stats. A game went to overtime and Crawford also stood on his head. Things go an inch differently and that’s a seven game series. No the Hawks weren’t the better team and they absolutely did not deserve to be there or when the series, but it wasn’t an absolute beat down.

    THANK YOU STEVE !
So many people that could care less about the Kings are all of a sudden caring because Brown, who spent 18 years and his entire NHL career with the Kings, was the first and so far only Captain in franchise history to lift the Cup. One of only a few Kings in their franchise to win is twice, leads the franchise in games played, scored over 700 points. Is getting a statue. He is, and it's not close. THE MOST IMPORTANT KING IN FRANCHISE HISTORY. PERIOD. Not the MOST SKILLED, THE MOST IMPORTANT. In the 2012 Cup run, he wasn't the most skilled, that was Quick. But he was the most important piece from the start of the regular season, to the Kings lifting their first ever cup. This is not only deserved, it should be required for what he did for the Kings.

    • @emotionallyinvestful

Jets fan here. I think the one year contract was agreed to by both sides as the easiest way to get Pierre-Luc Damage Control out of Winnipeg for the best return at some point this season, most likely around the trade deadline.
He knows he needs to play well so that teams will offer enough for Chevy to accept a trade, otherwise we'll be in the same situation a year from now. Chevy gave up a lot for that clown with the belief that we could keep him long-term. Now that it's clear we won't, Chevy will be patient and wait for a good return.

Dubois and Connor was a dynamite line last season, duber should’ve had so many more goals and points if his finishing ability was a little better. Slap ehlers on that top line or perfetti if he’s ready and I think he’s got potential to have a huge production season

I don't get what people want their upset that Dubois doesn't want to sign with Winnipeg long term and wants to become a UFA which gives them notice to trade him for something.
But Jonny Gaudreau is also wrong because he didn't give the team any warning that he would leave so they can trade him. What do people want, what is the right way for a guy to leave an organisation if he wants to??

Dustin Brown would be Steve's god if he played in Toronto. The guy is all heart and soul. If you discount the crazy contract he's exactly what the leafs need.

They absolutely don’t have to sweeten the pot with Toews. Retained salary decides return i think.

Thank you Steve. If you're not a Kings fan, your opinion on a Dustin Brown statue is irrelevant. And if you ask any Kings fan, they're behind it.

Adam: I think you forgot alot of great defensemen who played for The Leafs. Phil Housley was a great defenseman in his early career in Buffalo but you are forgetting even better d-men such as Larry Murphy and Tim Horton. I like Steve's picks of Brian Leetch and Borje Salming. I think Phil Housley would be hard pressed to make a top ten d-men using the criteria of ever playing one game with The Leafs. And that's not a knock on him.

The abuse claims may be young hockey players who've been abused by staff. If there are 4, it might be a coach, perhaps one we've read about.

I can't remember too much about Mr Dionne however, using the numbers, Detroit must have extremely pissed off when Mr Dionne matured as a player down there. His gpg in Detroit was .45 (Crosby'esque numbers) 139 goals in 309 games approx to .60 gpg (OV/Gretzky kind of numbers) 550 goals in 921 games (approx).
