  • If your interested in laser engravers, what the the feature differences between most open gantry laser engravers and enclosed models like the xTool S1? Also what is the actual cost of the open gantry engravers when you factor in enclosures and accessories?

    This was a great comparison and highlighted the important differences. Thanks for the focus on safety. Too many hobbyists don’t have the safety training to realize the importance of taking these precautions.

      Thanks Damon, yeah, it’s actually how scary easy it is to make a mistake on safety with these machines, they’re great and very useful but the permanent damage that could be done is some thing that shouldn’t be gloss over

    Some of us can't afford a S1 but I did buy a Atomstack X40 Max. Keep doing the wonderful video

    I went with the cheap open gantry for my first one. Was well aware of the eye dangers and fire danger. Enclosure I built cost 150$ but not everyone can build one. I see people who buy them and are afraid to use them. The closed machines are definitely the wave of the future.
    For a business there is one HUGE negative on closed machines. They cannot engrave large or tall objects.

      @BitnerBuilt  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Cool, no, you can still do large and tall objects with enclosed units both my XT, S1 and P2 and even the Wecreat vision that I had, the bottom trays can slide off and you can prop it up on blocks etc. to be able to engrave on anything, obviously when you remove the bottom of the tray there’s some other hazards and you need to make sure that you have the tray or a steel plate underneath the item that you’re engraving just in case but you can still totally do it

      Haha you know when I got my cnc I was sooo happy used it non stop, I actually find I use the laser now 50% of the time that I could have used the cnc, there’s a ton of overlap. Really happy I got into lasers now

    Great video! I love how focused you are on safety. I wouldn’t have even thought to match the wavelength of the light from my cheapo Chinese laser engraver to the safety glass.

    • @BitnerBuilt
      @BitnerBuilt  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks Lee, yea it’s kinda scary that you could wear glasses that don’t match, think your protected and then actually be hurting yourself!

    I had some close calls with my open gantry. My vision is worth way more than the small relative price difference. I took advantage of the Xtool upgrade promo for the S1. The fire safety device was included with the promo.

      Yea, I’m really sticking to the no more open gantry on the channel, just turned down another because the safety really isn’t there. Hope you like the s1!

      @@BitnerBuilt what I’m curious about in this hobby/craft space is how safe are the goggles that are provided. Is there a good way to test the included goggles at home. Because they have an od rating how were they tested. What I’m curious about, is the lifespan of a diode laser degraded much at 100% power, specifically the S1 with its robust heat dissipation build. Are diode lasers in general longer lasting than CO2

    • @BitnerBuilt
      @BitnerBuilt  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@bneil4059on the goggle question, there's a great video I will link that says the same thing I would th-cam.com/video/39Q8DRdm_7M/w-d-xo.html in addition, I would always make sure the laser and the goggles clearly state their wavelength and that they two match. overall the lifespan of a diode is 10-20k hours (some even claim up to 50k) with a co2 laser lasting much less in the 2k-10k hours range before needing a replacement tube. A graph I have seen shows there is minimal degradation till it hits around 80-90% life span and then it quickly degrades.for either with xtool your looking at around a $500 replacement at that time for a c02 tube or new laser module.

    Thanks for all the great info. Well done. One question I hope you will answer. On the S1, the enclosure glass you say is protection for the lasers it uses. Does that include the wavelengths the 2W operates at as well as the 10W, 20W and 40W?

    • @BitnerBuilt
      @BitnerBuilt  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes it does for the diode and low wave ir module. Thanks Lee provided me with their technical lab test data at one point, they do really extensive testing on their safety shields. I’m currently testing out the XT F1 ultra, their brand new machine, that also has a green shield that protects against both however it does operate in the open position for its conveyor belt accessory and I actually have to have two separate pairs of glasses on me, depending if I’m using the diode or fiber laser

    Hey! Also that circle feature is available in light burn under laser tools. In case you end up on a different machine and not using the Xtool software.

    Thanks for the video; very useful. Just a note on air assist and honeycomb: The basic S1 doesn't come with those either, I don't believe. It's an important point to note when comparing laser machines: some come with things such as air assist as standard (and other items), others don't.

    • @BitnerBuilt
      @BitnerBuilt  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes I did state that the basic doesn’t come with them but there’s a package that does. The unit does come with a prism base however,same function as honeycomb. Honestly, it should just be bundled every single time with every single engraver. It’s really a standard set of items that every single one should have.

    • @BitnerBuilt
      @BitnerBuilt  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ah you know what I cut a part I had recorded where I griped about none of them coming with full sized ones included in the base 😂

    They claim it's a Class 1, why do they provide goggles with the conveyor?

    • @BitnerBuilt
      @BitnerBuilt  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It’s a class one machine during normal use that doesn’t require goggles. If you’re buying an optional accessory that requires you to open the unit so that the wood can pass through from the front of the unit to the back of the unit, whenever you have that attachment on only does it not factor as a class one and then you would need to wear the goggles Because there’s a possibility of the laser bouncing off of something or someone looking in the gap where the wood is passing through. I certainly wouldn’t knock them for that as it’s just in that use case.

    • @I-LOVE-EARTH
      @I-LOVE-EARTH 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a great response. My issues is that on their website they say "Approved by IEC,
      Class 1 laser safety certification", and they you scroll down and they show the conveyor and NEVER mention goggles. They make you think it's always Class 1. Some may find that misleading or "conveniently" omitted.
