    Watched what feels like a million videos from hundreds of people but had NO clue that this was possible!!!
    Thanks as always for a superb tutorial on a (very) hidden feature 😃

    Glad I came across this video, I normally prefer steam gauges over the G1000 as not used to it, but I definitely gotta try this out now especially in my home state of Texas where I like to fly in and out of small country strips! Thanks!

    I just tried this with the Cessna 414A Chancellor, using the PMS50 GTN750NXI and it worked like a charm! I knew that visual approaches were available but didn't realize that they would actually glide you down the glide path. Much better than OBS. Thanks so much!

    Dear,
    thank you, great video, I learned something new. Sorry, but I think it has a bit of a flaw. Namely, you say that there is no big difference whether you press "vectors" or "straight" in the visual settings. I have noticed that there is actually a big difference. If you press "straight", a GPS connection is immediately created between the aircraft and the "straight" point, so that no manual manipulation of the heading mode is required. The red line nicely shows the connection between the plane and the "straight" point, followed by the "final" point, and the plane is guided by GPS throughout the all flight. Everything is also beautifully displayed on the G1000 monitor. Many thanks!

  • @ceegnz
    @ceegnz ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Well that got me wondering ! I downloaded a G1000 manual from Garmin and started reading ... Under the "APPROACH MODES (GPS, VAPP, LOC)" section I found out more than I ever wondered about APP modes and the first instruction under Selecting GPS Approach Mode is "Ensure a GPS approach is loaded into the active flight plan". So I think being able to do it in the sim is just a sim thing.

    • @Huddison
      @Huddison  ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually also assumed it's just a sim thing as there's no ILS information for the G1000 to compute.

    • @ceegnz
      @ceegnz ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I honestly didn't make any assumptions before I got the manual - a G1000 absolutely does VNAV including by descent angle and calculating a 3 degree descent to a waypoint with a known elevation is hardly rocket science, it was entirely possible that it was a real thing.

    • @Huddison
      @Huddison  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a good point. The systems are very likely capable of estimating a theoretical Glide Path for any given runway.

    What is the white diamond that shows up on glide slope?

  • @riflemusket
    @riflemusket ปีที่แล้ว

    I did not know about visual approach in the G1000 having a “phantom” glidepath indicator! Unfortunately my install on Xbox series S is glitchy re the RNAV/VNAV in autopilot so I’m going for an uninstall/reinstall currently. Hopefully that will restore my autopilot functionality so I can try this out.

    • @Huddison
      @Huddison  ปีที่แล้ว

      What issues are you having?

    • @riflemusket
      @riflemusket ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Huddison ever since a “mandatory” update late-June, several issues.
      1) Low-altitude IFR flight plans from the World Map are full of errors including duplicate flight paths that the G1000 won’t follow.
      2) VNAV doesn’t work anymore, so I cannot get the magenta “G diamond” or VPATH altitudes to appear.
      3) Occurs with G1000Nxi in both C172 and Grand Caravan.
      4) Now I have to reconfigure my HOTAS One and Xbox controller with my old settings. 🤨

    Hi Hudds … Came across this by accident but your video really nails it. Am never sure with VNV switched on if it would activate on a non VNAV approach.

    • @CanaryIrish
      @CanaryIrish ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hudds … Follow up. If you’d selected “straight “ rather than “vectors” you wouldn’t have had to use Heading mode to intercept the magenta line. Am I right ?

    • @Huddison
      @Huddison  ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct, choosing 'Straight' will be more convenient.

    Doesn't work with xbox. I did everything you suggested. When the plane reached TOD,
    The diamond just turned into NO GS, and didn't decend.

    • @Pyroshep86
      @Pyroshep86 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Did you adjust the altitudes in the vnav profile ? If your using vnav ? And remember once you reach your cruise alt , you need to reduce your altitude indicate if the pfd to give TOD to descend for you … once you activate the approach procedure the G icon will appear . Once you line up the diamond will appear , once you see it press the approach button … just a little tip .. maybe reduce the altitude in the straight and final in the vnav profile by a couple of hundred feet so you line up comfortably under the glide path .. this will give you more time to get fully configured and to get the approach button pressed .

    • @Pyroshep86
      @Pyroshep86 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Of course if vnav is really confusing right now for you , just focus on using VS for now to get your approaches right , then you can move onto using VNAV .
