I have never truly invested in an actual play but something about catching a story at the origin was appealing enough to give HR a shot. Jesus what a masterclass in DMing, RP, world building, and how to run the game when people are busy adults unable to attend every session. Round of applause to all involved. Truly the best actual play. Hopefully Mark knows that he is in the same league as Mercer and Mulligan.
please give aerois a try. its Highrollers second campaign its absolutely fantastic, had me yelling at my screen or by my self in my car when i listened to it on pod cast
I second this. Aerois is fantastic. Mark stands up there in the pantheon of DM gods. You also get to see Rhi go from full babby to queen titan in that campaign as far as her becoming a player. Sentry is maybe my favorite character from any game I’ve watched.
God, that backstory reveal...! This must be what Critical Role viewers felt in the first campaign when's Percy's story get revealed. Dang it, if only Daisy was here! She should have been here. Would have loved to have seen her reactions, some insights from Nim.
When Mark described vault hunting guilds I pictured the members going around the countryside and doing weird things trying to activate a vault. Like a high fantasy version of that scene from Everything Everywhere All At Once
“I hope the death was peaceful …” “…. It was absolutely anything but that!” I say it every week but I bloody love Gruff and the way Kim delivers these lines is unreal 😊
Another banger of an episode 🎉 It’s been a while since I’ve been able to watch properly, but I’ve managed to fit these VODs in again and I’m so glad to be back 😁✌🏻
I listen to these episodes on full volume while I clean, and every time you guys say Percival or Percy, my cat Percy perks his ears 😻😻😻 Also the updated stats onscreen?! I was hoping our Undead Queen got a magic spec! I was leaning towards her multicasting to cleric or necromancy wiz, but warlock is going to be killer! I wonder if her pact with the Undying is going to get any Altheyan flavouring
Finaly finaly fully caught up after watching all of light fall and aerois then all the mini series and one shots highrolers has been my life for the last year absolutely love it keep up the good work
love the fridge reference. when someone casts detect magic on the stormchaser and sees the necromantic fridge... and the mystery guy ZZZ is actually now in this universe to make xantheus a fridge too. or at least get paid to 😂
I loved this episode and the one before! Ophelias journey and Xantheus backstory are masterful storytelling. But I wonder, do barbarians not have unarmored defense in this campaign? I have thought about that before also.
They've done a couple of unique things with making Ophelia dex based and getting rage damage / spells etc. Don't think they've said explicitly what they've done (could be on Patreon sometimes things are there) but curious to see how this combo evolves!
Rhi is a fantastic player, her previous characters have been pretty solid. Like Sentry and the warlock from their first campaign epilogue mini series. Ophelia in Concept is a really cool character, but as a build, it baffles me what she has planned for her. Barbarian/Warlock is interesting as I've never tried to combine a caster with something that prevents casting.
Around 1:39:30 Tom invents a new game: Dnd words! Who's got a word you hear a lot in/only really get regular use in Dnd? In this episode Mark submitted "membranous" and "tendrils," and I would like to add "chitinous."
I thought the 4 Untethered that Ophelia came across in last ep were going to re-appear. My pet theory was that they were going to be temporary characters for the other players to inhabit for Ophelia's Greylands arc but she totally side-stepped them last time.
A DM skill Mark so subtly masters is creating intro scenes for new NPCs. Does he improvise them, or does he have planned scenes for each main NPC should the PCs stumble on them? It's like walking around a Rockstar game ⭐
This was such a good episode. Controversial opinion incoming. High Rollers is better than Critical Role. I said it. Prove me wrong. (I'm talking 2024. The Mighty Nein was fucking amazing.)
Hmm, Mighty Nein WAS amazing, but so was Aerois. While I am currently enjoying Altheya more than Bell's Hells from Crit Roll, both are near and dear to my heart and have their own standout moments of amazing content. Happily, our world has room for multitudes of stories and multitudes of different storytellers so instead of thinking "this one versus that one," I am more inclined to be thankful for them all. 😄
9:55 Yes Kim! Legally-distict Godzilla guest spot when? OH I'm sure there has to be some giant monster themed TTRPG somewhere! Heck, all else fails you could probably just use giant stats from 5e or some other big gargantuan monster and just give it a new costume, lol.
They stream simultaneously on TH-cam and Twitch, if you tune into the TH-cam stream for a bit you can watch the unlisted archive of it, but this is the "final cut" for the VOD for people to watch at their leisure
Can anyone add clarification on how Rhiannon casted Hellish Rebuke while she was in a barbarian rage? I thought you couldn’t cast or concentrate on spells while raging.
Spoilers: He's carrying a piece of metal alloy in his chest that is akin to something like active plutonium that is also considered extremely illegal by pretty much everyone. Oh and the church's more zealous members also considers it blasphemous to possess, and it's slowly killing him.
1:16:25 WTF TOM?! WHY ARE YOU ALWAYS TRYING TO PUNCH RHI'S CHARACTER???? SECRET ABUSER??? 1 He did it in the live show during the dance 2 He decided to act like he was hitting her again when she was DEAD ON THE TABLE, before Grufff's song to her. IM NOT HERE FOR THE WOMAN ABUSING, TOM.

There are many moments in High Rollers history where Mark surpasses Mercer and Mulligan by so much.
@@kookkojaskinen7592 I think he is the single best at large scale fights. And somehow nailing threat with them too. KAIJU FIGHT!
The way mark interjected in Xantheus' story just to add what I would describe as *essential* set dressing was just truly magnificent.
Everyone needs a friend like Rhi that dies laughing at your jokes
God, that backstory reveal...! This must be what Critical Role viewers felt in the first campaign when's Percy's story get revealed. Dang it, if only Daisy was here! She should have been here. Would have loved to have seen her reactions, some insights from Nim.
It is rather unfortunate. At least Rhi is there but it's still rough that her character wasn't there for the story either.
When Mark described vault hunting guilds I pictured the members going around the countryside and doing weird things trying to activate a vault. Like a high fantasy version of that scene from Everything Everywhere All At Once
Or like BOTW when finding certain koroks and some shrines.
I also thought of the divers guild from xenoblade chronicles 2
It made me think a lot of Borderlands (that may be intentional, I'm not sure)
Xantheus: "and my fathers name is...Firelord Ozai"
What a twist!! He was Zuko all along!
Lol
FOUL TARNISHED!! Emboldened by the flame of ambition.

Good work my fellow spoiler guardian! ✊️
"The fire doesn't know how to be fire here" I thought I was listening to Jerry Holkins for a second.
_Imagine, if you would, a fire, but not a normal fire. A fire that probably hates its job, so it does it half-assed on good days._
I F***ING KNEW IT !!!!!! Screaming crying throwing up, so creative, so well thought out, I love this damn campaign. Mark, Tom, your minds. bro!
Mark's face everytime he just listens expressionlessly is hilarious, he looks uncomfortable as heck XD
Find somenone who looks at you the way Rhi looks at Mark when he's talking tombstones
I just noticed that Xantheus's last name starts with Au, the chemical symbol for Gold. That's so clever
This campaign is so good!
I can't believe how invested in this story and world I'm getting. Here's hoping Ophelia doesn't come back during the ritual to dispell the curse.
Another banger of an episode 🎉

This Proto-Magi vault concept is ringing all my bells and I'm totally going to semi-plagiarize it 😄❤😄

Y’all are awesome. Just started Aerois because of how great Altheya has been so far.
I'm 71 episodes into Aerois and you're in for a treat! Say "Hi" to Nova and Lucius!
i freaking love that we can see the two crucibles on mark's dm screen, also been loving their uses too, so cool !!
I just started listening to the campaign last week to get me through work, Now I’m all caught up and sad! Incredible storytelling

Oh yes... Tarnished, are we? Unfortunately for you, however, you are maidenless.

Mercer likes to use "toothy maw" and as a DM I find myself using "skitter" and "ethereal" a lot
Ophelia literally becoming a DS3 ashen one and activated an ember on herself xd
I thought the 4 Untethered that Ophelia came across in last ep were going to re-appear. My pet theory was that they were going to be temporary characters for the other players to inhabit for Ophelia's Greylands arc but she totally side-stepped them last time.

Altheya blows CR C3 out of the water. Feels so fresh and fun watching these guys compared to Bells Hells

Non native English speaker here needing a bit of help. Is it "Greyfather" or "Gravefather"? I can't tell the difference when they say it, thanks.
I am 95% sure it is Grave-Father, but it is the Greylands
As a native speaker, couldn't tell at first either, but it's definitively Gravefather.
@@RedPandaSquadron thanks!
@@bessieburnet9816 I appreciate the help!
I am a native English speaker, and until I read these comments I thought is was "Greyfather".
Can we make it a fact within canon that The Greylands run on dial-up?
Man Trott was hilarious this episode
"I that case I retract what I said and instead say RAAAAAAA"
Altheya would make an awesome DLC for BG3
I got my minis!!!! In the campaign I DM someone is a lionen so we finally have a mini for them.
Strange idea can we Xan a Ironman Arc-Reaktor 😅
Xantheus, my boy!
Love the new campaign

Can anyone add clarification on how Rhiannon casted Hellish Rebuke while she was in a barbarian rage? I thought you couldn’t cast or concentrate on spells while raging.
yeah I thought so too. Maybe it's a homebrew thing? Or something she can only do in the Grey Lands?
Homebrew class stuff. :)
I don’t understand the impact of what is in his chest? Can someone explain. Thanks
Spoilers:
He's carrying a piece of metal alloy in his chest that is akin to something like active plutonium that is also considered extremely illegal by pretty much everyone. Oh and the church's more zealous members also considers it blasphemous to possess, and it's slowly killing him.
Erm actually you can't cast spells while you're Raging 🤓 that Hellish Rebuke wouldn't have worked
They are doing some homebrew stuff that departs from RAW with Ophelia's class. :)
I feel like if *any* spell is gonna work during rage it's lashing out with a ring of fire at something that just hit you.
Ophelia would DEFINITELY need to be cleaned. When humanoids die, they empty their bowels and Ophelia would smell AWFUL
also, ew, coke, cmon guys, drink more water!
