Gonna cover a cardio ward this week and was struggling with rate/rhythm control agents. This vid came in just in time n clarified my doubts. Thank you sir you're such a blessing
These effects complement each other rather than contradicting: • A stronger contraction (due to higher intracellular calcium) helps pump blood effectively. • A slower heart rate reduces myocardial oxygen demand and improves cardiac efficiency.
Hey @Medicosis I read that Digoxin helps in stimulating the release of Ach from the vagus nerve which results in activating Gi protein and inhibition of cAMP that leads to inactivation of the Ca2+ channel and secondly Gama i activates the K+ channel resulting in the release of K+ from cells. As a result, Digoxin causes hyperpolarization and increases the time of Threshold Potential. So Digoxin helps in reducing Ca++ in Pacemaker cells by stimulating Ach release but increases Ca++ in non-pacemaker cells by inhibiting the Na+ and K+ ATPase?
Hey medicosis today was my urology exam and there was a question I didn't know the answer Why alkalosis cause tetany ? I know it's something about calicum level but I don't understand what it is exactly can you explain it to me please
High pH makes the albumin more anionic which will bind calcium strongly thus there wont be free calcium available. That causes Tetany. Medicosis should correct me if Im wrong :)
@@Zainab-nt4jr you know calcium is highly competitive. So when its around, it doesnt let other cations bind on receptors thus it kinda inhibits excessive firing of neurons. But when its not around, god dammit. Then sodium takes over and it fires!

You're very welcome!
Would you please help me by sharing?
I hope you open other closed videos these are all very helpful
digoxin does two opposite things. if it is increasing heart contractility than why is it decreasing the heart rate.
Because it has vagus-like effect
These effects complement each other rather than contradicting:
• A stronger contraction (due to higher intracellular calcium) helps pump blood effectively.
• A slower heart rate reduces myocardial oxygen demand and improves cardiac efficiency.
