As a DM I can say that is very likely what happened. You adapt to the party... frequently with drunk logic.

Actually, I think that might have been planned. Don't think Jonny was planning on making them tend to their guests AND control a ship meant to definitely be manned by more than 5 lads
When they reach 9th level and above, more and more players in the party might create zombie orphans.
At 9th level, credence might learn danse macabre and if egbert fails his redemption hard enough, he becomes an oathbreaker with animate dead
At 10th level, dobb gets magical secrets, letting him learn any spell
At 13th level, corazon might learn to summon some skelly bois with animate dead

I really like that Johnny tried his hardest not to have this adventure derailed. He wrote up a DETAILED itinerary with an event for EACH Oxventurer to perform. Even when Dob tried to Dob it up he had the Lads boo to get Prudence to do the magic show and kindly reminded it was a 5 day voyage. But I'm sure they still managed to completely blind-side him with the drinking games.
The Oxventurers are professional campaign derailers
They still had to hasten it up at the end but let's face it trying to second guess your players is an exercise in futility.
The drinking games turned out to be essential, imo -- Johnny seemed to me to be kinda reticent with the details of what was actually going on.
The salsa dancing was probably quite odd too.

Ah, yes. As a competitive sailor, I can confirm that on occasion, my boat has been commandeered by a Sea Sauron.
And here I thought it was just weather helm.
Some people may think this is a joke, but I too have had it happen to me while sailing. The coast guard said it was because I was using the wrong kinds of sails but I know it was a Sea Sauron.

It's a UK expression that is equivalent to bachelor party in North America. I immediately looked it up thinking it was some weird cult thing as I typed it as Stagdu. And yet despite all that Johnny was crafting an elaborate pun so you ended up stumbling upon the plot, very cool.

I just thought of something. Hunger of Hadar is an AOE spell right? If cast on someone, they have to move out.
What would happen if Merilwen casts Spike Growth in the same area so that when someone tries to escape Hadar, they get hurt by the spikes.
Or an even strategic plan. Plant the spikes in the area slightly on the target but mostly somewhere they DON'T want the target to go, and plant another trap that launches right when they leave the AOE of Hadar

For anyone curious, cannons are listed in 5e as siege weapons in the Dungeon Master's Guide. They take 3 actions (load, aim, and fire) to use, and deal 8d10 damage with a range of 600 feet, or up to 2400 feet at disadvantage.

I imagine they’ve got brass four-pounders rather than the iron thirty-twos you’d see on bigger ships. Smaller, cheaper, and easier to fix since Dob can melt it down and recast them with Egbert’s help.

I feel like in the early episodes Luke kind of accidentally tripped into being an agent of chaos, but by this point he's actively embracing it. "Hmm, what can I do to cause complete havoc? I know: CURSED SKELETONS!"

As someone who has only recently started playing DnD (2 sessions in and loving it) I can say that Oxventure is the MOST ACCURATE depiction of the hilarious shambles that is playing DnD with your friends!
As someone who's been rpging for 30 years I can confirm this accuracy.
That’s what makes it so much more fun than the more serious channels. Crit Role is good, but Oxventures are awesome.
I've been playing for 10+ years, but I've only started DMing recently. I think you can learn good lessons from any DM (I basically steal every trick I can from Matt Mercer's Big Bag Of Dramatic Flourishes), but Johnny is honestly my best reference for what to do when one of my players does something completely unexpected. He's incredible at reacting in a way that keeps things rolling and makes sure everyone has a great time!
I've been playing through the Storm King's Thunder adventure with a group of friends, and this is an accurate representation of the types of shenanigans we get involved in. Our party consists of a ranger (me), a wizard, a druid, a rogue, a cleric, and a barbarian. We had to travel for three days on a Cloud Giant's floating fortress (long story), and here's what we did.
1. The rogue was looking around to see what he could steal and found nothing.
2. The wizard was sitting on the edge of the cloud, reading and trying to ignore all of us. Occasionally, they would use Minor Illusion to make the druid think that her seeds were talking to her.
3. The druid was trying to make seeds take root and grow in the cloud, occasionally making random places smell like skunk and shape-shifting into a weasel.
4. The barbarian slept, only waking up because I got bored and challenged him to a duel.
5. I, as a ranged fighter that specializes in archery, got engaged in a melee fight with the barbarian because I was bored, lost miserably, and spent the rest of the time firing arrows into the cloud to see what would happen. (We never cleaned up the blood from my near-death.)
6. The cleric was just making sure none of us got ourselves killed with our stupidity.
Lmao same it's so chaotic. We're level one and I have proficiency with over half the skills in the game, the half orc monk keeps tryna eat people, and the Tiefling sorcerer married a demon lord who got hit with the balance effect

The best thing about this being up is that I'll finally be able to hear the part where Eggbert just keeps on dancing. I was on the second row and couldn't stop laughing at that point.

What I love about this too is that if feels like a genuine character interaction where Corazón is finally confronted with his disproportionate love of money, and Andy plays along so well with the red-faced sputtering.
Again, the greatest threat to the NPCs: the interest of time.
There really should be a skit with Corazon de “Ballerina” having to disguise as a female dancer to seduce a powerful pirate captain or Lord.
And he goes in too deep undercover and falls in love with the captain or Lord for real.

Johnny’s face when Andy gave him the WoC signed DMG, I straight up started to cry. And extra special credit to the Oxventurers for knowing how to transition that moment for him. That was some extremely outstanding friendship right there.
Every time I think this group has shown me it’s best, they find another way to surpass themselves. I am humbled by how good they are too each other, and how lucky geeks and every stripe are to have this fantastic group of people creating content that makes the best of gaming, so much better.

TBH i am looking forward to the day they actually need a ton of money. Could make for a fun session.
Also, while i think it has been a bit forgotten, i do remember Corazón said that he was looking for some cursed gold coins which was one of the reasons he steals things, as they are part of the curse his crew has. As such he would (if this aspect is still played out) be incredibly irked by Dob throwing there money away, he might end up losing those coins, or otherwise have money he can trade for the cursed coins should he find them.
It finally came.... it was to just give it all away anyways
