I knew about corner rounded but didn't know about the mask function. No matter how much you use Camtasia, there is always something new that you learn. Glad I watched this video. At first, I was going to skip it thinking, "This is simple, I already know this."
@Harry Shares I have Camtasia on Both the Mac and a Windows computer. I didn't realize there were differences in features. I know accession them can be different, but I thought all the features were available in both. Thanks for sharing.
In addition to Camtasia's reply, for Windows, once you have added your circle and added the Alpha media matte to it, you can then right click on the circle, select Add to Library. That way, from that point on, you can simply drag and drop from your library to a track you want to have the matte on for future videos.
In Camtasia 2022's library (which you can export and import into Camtasia 2023 if you like) you can find these animations under the folder labeled "Callouts" and then "Indicators." Could also be under "Indicators with Divider" or "Indicators + Text" but you'll find it there. We also have a few new ones in Camtasia 2023 that can be found under "Indicators."
I knew about the mask and the corner rounding (I've saved my preferred rounding as a favourite so the same number is automatically applied each time) but didn't know about media matte. It's a smart idea, though I guess it might look too gimmicky?
It’s only as gimmicky (or non-gimmicky) as you the user choose to make it. :) Keep it subtle and refined, or go nuts and make crazy shapes. I prefer to match shapes to logos when working. But our Camtasia logo for example really is just rounded corners, so it’s subtle.
can you record with a built-in MacBook microphone vs external USB mics such as Blue Yeti X or Rode NT-USB+ I want to know if I need to buy any of these mics or if my internal mic is clear enough? thanks.
The M1/M2 MacBook Pros have pretty decent internal microphones surprisingly - that said, you'll need to be about 8 inches of it for optimal sound (lean in) and in a room with very little noise (such as a clothes closet). But if you can isolate yourself while you're recording, then I think you can get away with it.
If you can get your Sony Fx30 to connect to your computer it SHOULD, but we can't promise. I'd check to see if you need a 4k adapter like the Elgato Camlink 4k (which is what I use for the Panasonic GH5 - hi, Andy here!). But it can record 4k, yes.
I’m new to making videos. Does this program work for editing reaction videos? I’m trying to do movie reactions, but the movie can’t be played the whole time. So I have to be able to make the movie clip disappear throughout the reaction, and control the audio from the movie, and myself talking. Trying to find the right editing program to use for this.
It does. Our friends @Whatchagot2say have been making BTS reaction videos for a while now solely using Camtasia. While we don't have any tutorials on how to do that, it's a standard editing technique to cut the clip you don't want continuing to play throughout, and move it down the timeline to start playing again.
Which version of Camtasia you are using?, I am using Camtasia version 22.5.1 03/03/2023. In this version, there is no 'Mask' menu option under Visual Effects. Please answer. Thank you
We regrettably forgot to mention Mask is a Mac-only feature HOWEVER you can use the Media Matte that he mentions in the next section to create a mask with a circle.
Great video. We need better styling, positioning and animation for captions. Currently there are almost no options at all to style captions in a propper way.
You can always add text to your video in a styilzed way if you want - our Captions editor abides by standard accessibility guidelines though. But we have a video coming in a couple weeks with text as the main feature! Stay Tuned!
I enjoy a PIP in the beginning, however, it is distracting to me during the lecture because my eyes keep going to the odd movement in the corner. Sticky notes (pip covers), help.
Sure! You can easily customize this, but turning the video portion off throughout the video and only bringing it back on during key segments. Or at the beginning & end.
It would be great if I could use a more professional camera then my MacBook webcam or my iPhone. My Nikon Z30 have a usb-c and can be used as a webcam in other programs, but I can’t get it to work as a camera in Camtasia with the usb-c connection.
You can use it in Camtasia via another app/device support.techsmith.com/hc/en-us/articles/11428207762829-Camera-Webcam-and-Virtual-Camera-Compatibility-Camtasia-Mac
Are you recording on a Mac? If so, you can enable your Continuity Camera feature on your computer to easily have Camtasia recognize your iPhone as a camera option. If it's not yet enabled, you can do that here on your Mac: Settings > General > AirPlay & Handoff. If you're on a Windows machine, I'm less familiar, but I know there are apps like "Camo Studio" for your iPhone that you can download, and then I believe when you connect it with your USB cable it'll show up as an option. Andy here, and I use the Continuity Camera with ease. It looks GREAT in Zoom calls and when I record with Camtasia, so if you can make that happen I highly recommend it.
Instead of the screen recording and webcam? If they’re both on the timeline, you can click the eye icon (👁️) next to the Track name to hide the screen recording, then make sure your screen recording fills the canvas (properties panel: scale & position) and then export.
@@googleaccount2675 Actually curious: Why would you look at yourself (instead of at the camera) while recording? If this is a feature you’d like added we’ll mention it (along with your use case) to our dev team.
@@techsmith I would if I can see myself with the camera, your app does not show the talking head during recording, you get one chance and once you start recording the review vanishes,,, anything gong wrong= trash! start over. ;) I dont need to tell you this, does your app show the talking head review during recording or not?
@@techsmith haha, just be honest and admit this app is outdated..no pip circle of the camera during recording, zero review, that alone is a no no for 99% of youtubers and other presenters., but im sure you will make a sarcastic comment again.

Now, this is one very useful tutorial that will make more people use Camtasia. Keep up the good work.
WHY NO MASK OPTION IN Windows version?
How could it be??
Never fear, keep watching. You can add a circle and apply a media matte to it to get the exact same effect.

is it easy enough to set the screen record and project to 4:5?
Any size! Just right-click the canvas, select "Project Settings" and either choose a preset or go to "Custom" size.

When Andy is on screen, the camera is being used. The screen recording is using Camtasia to record. And the video was edited in Camtasia.
