it's been a little while since my last video!

Let’s take a look inside the artful mixed media box whilst I have a waffle and a catch up with you all!
Artist-grade acrylics come with transparency icons of transparent, semitransparent semi-opaque and opaque. Acrylics range from liquid to thick cream you can sculpt structures, acrylic ranges from glossy to semi-gloss to mat to super-flat and acrylic gouache as most of the gouache properties but the rewetability. It dries permanent. Acrylic medium can thin out thick colors and depending on the medium make more glossy or less glossy. Art shops have usually the wide range of properties I just listed in the description or marked by icons. Because acrylic dries fairly fast using the appropriate brush size matters. Once it is dry it is fixed, so glazing is definitely a technique you can experiment with. And should you mess up, you can always cover it with a similar opaque color and try again. Because you can layer acrylics very well, a carving technique was developed wer you use carving knives and scratch and peel different layers to create an image. It is pretty zen to watch here on youTube.
For blending having a damp and/or dry mob brush is pretty dandy. You wisk lightly with the brush to get soft edges.
Hope that helps with the orientation. As to brands ... Golden is definitely a leading brand in acrylics. Liquitex has made a name for itself. System3 is mentioned fairely often. In general it is like with every other art supply, there is never and and to interesting supply and often enough it is a matter of preference which starts with getting samples and testing for oneself.
😈 loved the art work and thank you for tackling this box. I must admit I was very disappointed with it as it basically was full of supplies we’d had before except for the orange ink, and thought it was lazy by artfull. You’ve given me a push to see what I can create with it.

I do agree with you on a lot of recycled supplies in there. I'm glad to read that you'll give it another try. At least everything in there could be used together.

😈 I really really liked what you made with the supplies! I found the neon acrylic ink mixes very nice with a bit of white gouache. Thank you for your video!

How good does the orange ink look, I didn't expect that when you painted it on. The mixed media works really well, he's a handsome devil. The result really surprised me, it's wonderful xx

That orange ink added a little bit of spice didn't it? It was quite fun to be pushed into using a combination of supplies that worked well, but I wouldn't have chosen to use!

Absolutely gorgeous Katy, glad you're feeling more like yourself again. We had a crap week my father-in-laws partner passed away somewhat unexpectedly so I think I'm in the same boat you were a couple weeks ago :( Please I would love to see more master studies as Lucifer was absolutely stunning.

Yeah, it was a challenge with the colours, but if in doubt switch it to tonal variations!
Neons are a bit of an odd one to work with. I tend to find that they work well as a base layer which adds a bit of luminosity to work over the top of. But they are quite an unnatural colour to work with aren't they?

@@KatyRylesArt Yes, as a base colour for the hair, the added a lot of luminosity and the devil really looks like on fire. For someone like m, who lacks any talent for painting and drawing, those striking neon colours are rather deterrent.

We got this box and were disappointed, it felt like a sale box of all the leftovers, without even including any new colours of anything. We've been subscribers since box 2 so it was all repetition and having now got the paint pen box we're considering stopping the sub because it doesn't seem value for money any more :(
