I’m 75 and have been using MMO religiously for over 50 years. I’ve done a little experimenting on most of my many cars and have always gotten at least 1 mile per gallon better mileage, making MMO pretty much paying for itself. The real bonus, however, is I’ve NEVER replaced a fuel pump or catalytic converter since I’ve been using it. I tell people, “It’s essentially free, so why not use it.” If it’s snake oil, then it’s snake oil that works.

      Right on Mr. Newsome,
Thanks for watching, and the good feedback.
I do believe MMO uses the highest quality of snakes in their product. lol
Question: Have you ever suspected they've change the formula in the last 50 years?

Chuck, I liked this video very much, as you seem to be very fair in your presentation. I started using Marvel Mystery Oil in 2016 at the recommendation of my mechanic who had just replaced the fuel pump on my 2002 Chevy box truck that I use in my delivery business in Maryland. He said that using MMO in the gas helps to keep the fuel pump lubricated and if used as directed, would not hurt the catalytic converter or the 02 sensors. I also started using MMO in my 2002 Town Car every time I got gas. In a short period of time, I noticed the idle was much smoother in both vehicles, and they seemed to have more power. Another benefit was that the highway miles per gallon improved by at least 1.5 to 2 mpg in my car.
Walmart sells the quart (32 ounce) size of MMO for $3.88, and the gallon (128 ounce) size for $15.87, which actually makes the quart a little cheaper per ounce. At this price, I am saving money using MMO with the increase in mpg, plus the added benefits I mentioned earlier.
In the past 3 years, I have looked at a number of you tube videos about MMO, and a few other people made comments about using TC-W3 and acetone in the gas with positive results. I have not tried these yet, as I have been happy with the results using MMO. Frank

Wow this was a very well thought out experiment with awesome results. Most people wouldn’t take into account wind speeds, tire pressure, or temperature. Good to see that some products can actually increase fuel economy

      Yo Meat,
Thanks for watching, and the kind words.
I beleive one reason these fuel additives provided an increase in my fuel economy is because I'm forced to use gasoline that contains 10% Ethanol.
If 100% pure gasoline was available in my area, I would use it, and I would not bother with these fuel additives.
I believe the results I obtained would be much lower if used with 100% pure gasoline.
When Ethanol is added to gasoline it makes it "dry" by removing its lubricity. Using these fuel additives restores the gasoline's lubricty.
Ethanol in gasoline is NOT my favorite thing, and I wish it's usage in gasoline would stop.
Why is Ethanol added to gasoline in the first place? I'll let you find that out for yourself.
      -Chuck

Congrats on trying to validate fuel efficiency improvements. I see so many people that fail to recognize the dozens and dozens of factors that affect efficiency and incorrectly attribute improvements to what changes they are making. I performed similar test last July '19 on new type of spark plug design on my Chevy Equinox. I eliminated as many variables as I could, ran mulitple tests to create a baseline for each change, and reverted back to the old plugs to validate. I even monitored fuel trims on my OBDII tool.
When establishing your baseline fuel efficiency, you must drive the exact same route, beginning and ending at the same point with the same mileage.. Highway route with low traffic is best. City traffic is unpredictable and inconsistent. Use of the same brand of fuel, same fuel pump, nozzle, and same octane grade. All baseline and subsequent tests must be made in short period of time to prevent variations in fuel mixtures, weather conditions, tire wear and other factors. The baseline and subsequent tests must have at least 5-10 repeated tests to obtain the average for each baseline. The condition of the oil in the engine is also a factor in fuel efficiency, and will change over the duration of the change interval. I am glad your factored in wind conditions, air temps, engine load, vehicle loading, etc. This has significant affect on efficiency. Here is my post to forum with my test method and results.
    r.search.yahoo.com/_ylt=AwrJ62BI0Upey7YA6AdXNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTEyYjMzNnZsBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDQjkzMjFfMQRzZWMDc3I-/RV=2/RE=1581990344/RO=10/RU=https%3a%2f%2fwww.equinoxforum.net%2f31-engine-drivetrain%2f27709-brisk-spark-plug-recommendation.html/RK=2/RS=OymjZXELhX0kJgkpJHUNqB6AOts-
Regarding additives fuel especially light hydrotreated petroleum oil is not recommended for Gas Direct Injected (GDI) engines. The injectors are subject to upwards of 2000 psi, extreme temperatures that will cause build-up and varnish in these extremely tight clearances of the injectors. Further, when the engine is shutdown the heat soak will cause these oil additives to basically cook inside the injectors in which temps and pressure rises even more than during normal engine operation. Hook up a scan tool and IR camera of the injector you can temps double and pressure rise significantly for hours. Repeat this process on each drive cycle and you will likely cause premature failure of the injector, leaking and disruption of the highly precise spray patterns need for optical fuel efficiency.

Pretty interesting video. Well done! I used MMO back in the early 90s in my 300ci I6 F-150 but don't recall now if I ever saw any benefit. I used it because my dad swore by it. Considering you saw a 2.25 mpg increase, I may give this a shot on my current truck. My Ram 1500 5.7L with 35" tires is averaging a pathetic 11.2 mpg. Once again, nicely done video.

      Right on MT,
      Thanks for watching.
The real reason I use these "snake oils" is to return lubricity to the fuel, and mitigate the negative effects of ethanol in our gasoline supply, and I'm hoping it will prolong the life of my fuel pumps, and prevent rust in the fuel tank.
But, I purposley don't talk about those things, and only chose to disuss the benefits of the fuel economy increase, because that's the only thing I can prove on paper with data collection.
If you want to know more google; "MTBE" and "why ethanol in gas?"

When I removed my tank from my 91 Toyota SR5 pick up, to replace the fuel pump at 200k. The gas tank was spotless, it looked brand new. I had been using mmo for years every cpl months. When I went to get it smogged, the plugs were at 100k & the Mechanic asked if he could have my sparkplugs when I removed them. He said the truck burned cleaner than some new cars. A cpl months later a watch repair man was teaching me about old pocket watches. I asked what he did, when they were 100+ yrs old, & gunked up...." Oh, we just drop them in mmo & let them sit all night. They come out sparkling clean" I was 😘. The last test I did, was put the whole bottle in the freezer for 24 hrs. It didn't freeze. I'd bet the internals of this 82 Suzuki GS 750 are spotless. It runs beautifully. P.s. you can make your own ethanol free gas. It's pretty simple, & worth it, if you have a bike. ✌️

Been looking at MMO for a month or so. Feb/2023 I bought 1 gal through AMZN and it was $37 delivered.
Added 12oz to my oil (M1 10W-30) and 6 oz to a full tank in my 11 Grand Marquis w/72k miles. It's been only 2 days and have traveled only about 70 miles so far.
I must reply to this thread because I'm very surprised it had such and immediate and noticeable improvement. So far I notice it idles smoother both in cold start (25-30F degrees) and and hot idle. The instant MPG shows a noticeable improvement by 2mpg so far but that's going to take a lot of miles to prove out.
What I'm most interested in is if the chain tensioners get quieter. Especially at startup in hot weather.

Very good solid info. Lucas and MMO are essentially solvents that also lubricate (they are not "oil" .....as they do not have the long chain parafins typically associated with "oil"). Great products. Recommend... However, TC3 is oil .... only... thus has very minimal cleaning /solvent properties to remove the varnish / carbon build up (would not recommend using this in regular 4 cycle gas engines). Regarding the MTBE / ethnol discussion -neither can lubicate (octane booster only). Sidenote...E85 flexfuel...(15 gas to 85 ethanol) as this fuel is very corrosive to aluminum and other metals and components like aluminum, rubber, etc) it requires speciality dispenser (pumps) to even dispense E85.

First off, I applaud your effort and time to independently test these fuel additives and produce the video, and for sharing it with the world. It is tough running tests like these. There are SO MANY variables affecting fuel economy and you touched on some of them in your video: air temperature, air humidity, fuel formulation (name brand, winter/summer mix etc), car accessories running during the test. And here is one that could also be at play here--order of tests. What if the improvements in mpg you observed with MMO were the product of the previous use of Lukas oil additive? Did you try re-running your control test (no additives), after testing all of the additives, to see if your MPG returned to the original measurements?...I'm not trying to rain on your parade, I think what you're doing is awesome and worthwhile. I'm just trying to give you some ideas to improve your test methodology. Keep up the good work! Thank you.

      Right on Badger,
      Thanks for watching.
You hit the nail on the head.
      I tested the Lucas first.
When I switched to MMO, I ran 80 gallons of gas treated with the MMO in an attempt to "wash away" the effects of the Lucas before I did a test loop measurement with the MMO.
I have not performed a test loop measurement with no additive to confirm, and verify mpg improvements are lost.

No plans. I only use fuel additives.
I can see how that might be an option if I ever deloped an oil sludge problem.
I change my oil often enough that I don't really see a need.
Also, people have left comments down below that doing so will free up sticky valve train components. So I'm positive it works for that.

Amazing video. Already a huge fan and definitely appreciate the extreme detail you go into, the anti-sponsor/monetization, and the links to everything mentioned. So good to see a new channel doing things like Project Farm and going even more in-depth and research-based (new non-biased product review champion incoming?).
As for my experience, I came to a similar conclusion after watching many videos/reading forums posts - adding both MMO and the ashless two-cycle oil seems to have made a huge difference (I've gained 2-3 mpg, just as you have). Testing Star Tron now, but can't seem to find many reviews - curious of your thoughts on it.
Note: Project Farm's recent video on anti-gel diesel additives shows 2-cycle oil rivaling even the best of the anti-gel additives for engine corrosion

I saw that the TCW3 oil did good things as a diesel anti-gel additive on Project Farm, that was shocking.
What ratio of MMO, and TCW3 do you add to gasoline?
Since the Lucas Fuel Treatment does not have "over treat" issues, I'm thinking about using both the Lucas, and TCW3 simultaneously just to use it up. (3oz Lucas to 10 Gal.) and 2oz TCW3 to 10 Gal.)

As for the ratios, I'm using 3 oz of MMO and 3 oz of the TCW3 per 10 gallons of gas. I also have 10% of my engine oil (Pennzoil Ultra Platinum) as MMO.
As for the Star Tron (funny name), here is a link - (www.amazon.com/Star-Tron-Enzyme-Fuel-Treatment/dp/B00D3IEIH2)
It seems to have pretty good reviews on Amazon and other retail websites, although some fake/paid Amazon reviews based on a www.fakespot.com/ search
I have yet to try the Lucas additive due to Chris Fix' video on one of their fuel system products (th-cam.com/video/FLhXqgEEYyI/w-d-xo.html), but it seems very promising based on others reviews + I'm not sure if this is similar to the product you have here

      Hey McGuy,
Unfortunately, the MPG test loop that I use is not comparable to the U.S. Federal Test Procedure.
I start my test loop, after the engine has been brought to normal operating temperature.
My test loop consists of no idling.
My test loop consists of 99% of highway driving at a constant speed with the cruise control set at 66MPH.
The other 1% is exiting the highway, and heading back.
I also over inflate the tires just a bit.
So my MPG test loop is only accurate, at comparing it against other MPG test loops that I perform.
Trust me, I refueled my Vic the other day, after using it for some short trips when I was adjusting the headlights, and changing the oil. That was a lot of idling, and driving not long enough to get the engine to 170F-190F.
I measured it at 11MPG, and that's not the lowest I've measured.
      One time I got 9MPG.

The test method isn't repeatab!e in Midwest states if the season is changing. Because the fuel formulation is changed in mid October. The winter fuel blends are not as fuel economy friendly as the summer blends. I don't use MMO as a fuel economy improver. I just like the detergent qualities of it in the combustion chambers and fuel system.

I was nervous when it was in there because my oil consumption went up to close to 2qt's between oil changes but now I am getting about 20 miles more per tank for an increase of around 1.5mpg and I am only burning 1/2qt of oil vs 1- 1.25 qts between oil changes. One thing I'd love to know when it comes to oils and addictives there must be 1 that is the overall best but so much good companies out there doing great stuff. Just would love a proper scientific proof of why one brand is better than another etc.

Actually, you can do an accurate comparison simply by comparing X to Y at the same time no matter what the time of year it is. Yes, winter fuel has less energy in it since they put additives that promote good cold starts but this has nothing to do with the tests if you do both at the same time.

I really like your testing methods and results. However, $154 is no "big whoop" in annual fuel savings. Many people, my wife and I included, try to get the most for our money in every possible way. We have took your advice and started using MMO when we bought our new car shortly after you posted this video. We're not "cheap." We're "frugal." By being frugal, we don't just spend the least without a care as to what we're buying. We buy the "most" tor the "least," and wind up saving a GREAT deal of money. By incorporating what you demonstrated here, among other means, we save over $4,000 every year on living expenses. So don't knock your results. Every little bit helps!

    • @PanzerPlatform
      @PanzerPlatform  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Loren,
Thanks for watching, and taking time to comment.
      This is an excellent question. And, I discuss this issue in my “Lucas vs. MMO” video. You can see it here;
      th-cam.com/video/gb3vVqmbVBU/w-d-xo.html
      -
If you don’t have time for that, let me try to explain.
The short answer to your question is; Yes.
      But, lets go deeper.
Both my cars have a 19.1 gallon fuel tank.
      Depending on conditions I usually refuel at ¼, or ½, or ¾ of a tank (that’s approximately 5, 10, and 15 gallons).
In my trunk I keep three different additive bottles, one for each dosage (5, 10, 15 gallons. This is where things get tricky, sometimes I’m just over, or under and I add an incorrect ratio of fuel additive.
MMO’s website under the FAQ’s indicates that using more than the recommended dosage may cause an “issue”. As I read that, I fear for my oxygen, A/F Sensors, and my catalytic converters (both my cars have 4 separate catalytic converters).
This is one of the reasons I no longer use MMO as a fuel additive in my cars.
Instead, I prefer to use Lucas Fuel Treatment. Lucas’ website under directions, it indicates “Exceeding the recommended dosage is not harmful to your vehicle”. As I read that, I understand if I’m off by a little as described by my application, the fuel additive will not cause any damage to my cars.
Hope that helps, but I’m sure you now have more questions. Lol

Question, if the tank is 19 gallons I put in 7.6 ounces for that. I'm setting my self up to fill up at a half tank. Should I drive two half tanks out then add another 7.6 ounces or add 3.8 ounces at the next fill up? Or would this make a difference?

    • @PanzerPlatform
      @PanzerPlatform  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

As long as you get it close it should not matter.
Just know that the MMO may cause an issue if an "overtreat issue" occurs.
This is why I prefer the Lucas.
There is no overtreat issue with the lucas.
You can be off by double, and it safe for your Oxygen Sensors, and Catlytic Converters.
Also, I fill up when the low fuel light illuminates, and it takes approximately 15.5 Gallons to fill up.

    • @PanzerPlatform

      Yo Jon,
Thanks for watching, and the good question.
Once you discontinue use your fuel economy will return to what is was before you started using the additive. How long, who knows?
Based on my calculations the products pay for their use, plus a little bit more. So I don't see myself getting off the juice anytime soon.
Also, if I had a brand new car I would not bother with these things. My secondary reason for using these products is to hopefully prolong the life of my fuel pumps, and prevent rust in the fuel tank.

Between the baseline and Lucas you got 1.59 more in MPG

    • @PanzerPlatform
      @PanzerPlatform  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Flix,
Thanks for watching, and taking time to comment.
I have completed preliminary testing with the TC-W3 oil as a gasoline fuel additive in my vehicle.
I will not be utilizing the TC-W3 oil in my regular refueling schedule in my vehicles, but not because I don't think it works.
I do believe the TC-W3 oil will improve fuel economy, lubricate the fuel pump, prevent rust in the fuel tank, clean fuel injectors, clean the backs of intake valves, lubricate the upper part of the cylinder walls etc.
      The reasons I will not continue use of the TC-W3 as a fuel additive in my vehicles are;
1.) There is a hazard of over treating that may damage oxygen, A/F sensors, and catalysts.
2.) The odor of the product is extremely noxious to my senses. It makes my nose, and eyes water, and gives me a headache after handling for just a few seconds.
3.) The cost saving vs Lucas or MMO is marginal.
These factors will lead me to use this product for a different application.
