      @Hic_Rhodus 3 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      There's a good story about an event where he had been talking on and on, for well over an hour, non-stop. The moderator finally picked up the courage to intervene and ask if he would allow some questions. Slightly put out, Zizek responds "Absolutely! Will you allow me to choose the first question?" The moderator replies, "of course". ...Slavoj turns back to the audience and says: "Ok, I choose myself: "Professor Zizek, what would you have talked about, had you been given a little more time?""

    Zizek's comments on the capitol raid/storming and the idea of Carnival and the carnivalesque was great -- I was feeling the same as I watched. I was especially thinking of Bakhtin's carnivalesque element "Profanation," where something formerly sacred is stripped down or made ridiculous. These rioters are from a political perspective that puts so much emphasis on rule of law, traditional values, idolizing the founding fathers... and so in this Carnival space they started destroying a symbol of those things. And the "Viking" guy even made me think of a sort of "Carnival King"

    Getting used to a certain mode of life does not mean that catastrophes will not occur, and that when they occur it's best to ignore them. They will not go away by pretending they do not exist. This was done with AIDS too. AIDS was ignored for a long time until the virus spread so much, it could not be ignored anymore, causing an enormous amount of unnecessary harm if people would have realized that AIDS is a health problem and not a political issue. At the same time I agree that politics cannot be separated from catastrophes.

    Though I really like Zizek I wonder why even he always comes back to Israel. Giving the impression its the most oppressive state in the world. I really do not understand the obsession of my fellow leftists with Israel. Should you criticize how the palestinians are treated? Of course. But its always about proportion. Hence I understand why people of a different political background can have the impression that this obsessive rhetoric actually hides a kind of vulgar ressentiment
    rather than an honest humanitarian critique.

    Ariella was saying how the framing her identity is offending but also sign of racism, and yeah i agree but then he Zizek could not but say " beautiful Woman " and he said it , that , what he will say would be read as sexism, but not only as sexism and it was kind of sexist moment but i would also kind of add, it is as one sentence to the human, sentence that SHE is beautiful, almost the curse and indeed it s not decent at all to say something like this with all this body language he cannot avoid to perform. So many " woman" (as he was pointing on and on), indeed had to face terrible faith due to the beauty they had from the nature, and it is so sad that he did not pay attention to this little fact that any kind of polarization is still THE polarization and no matter it is part of his tell... I say again, he is kind of strange one
