    Could you do this on the stove top too

    • @CamirrasKitchen
      @CamirrasKitchen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      yes! just cook the chicken on the stove top with extra water first. probably will take 30-40 minutes to get soft. then add the drop biscuts and cook for 10 minutes.

    My grandmother rolled her dumplings, while my mother dropped hers. Silent gen vs. the Boomers, I guess, at least in the Appalachian area in KY. I appreciate the importance of flavor in your recipes. I grew up in a family that used spices sparingly, perhaps due to their roots in the Depression era when plain, simple meals were the norm. It's wonderful to see you go that extra mile to brown that chicken first. Those touches are transforming and take your dishes to the next level. Thanks so much for sharing!

    This was one of my fave meals my grandmother made but I haven't had it maybe 15 years, so long, and it looks closer to how hers looked than anyone I've seen so I'm def trying this. My 5 year old daughter is extremely picky and won't eat ANYTHING and I'm hoping this will be the magical recipe since I loved it as a kid. I'm seriously going insane trying to get her to eat food :/ but this looks absolutely delicious. Maybe she will eat your yams too.

      I find dropped dumplings are so much fluffier!! Here in NZ my Māori ex often made what's called a Boil Up, a sort of modern Māori cultural feed: A huge pot filled with pork bones, potatoes, carrots, cabbage, watercress, salt, pepper, and filled with water then boiled for 1-4 hours or even longer. Then dumplings (called Dough Boys here) go in 20 mins before serving. However they cut the dumplings and roll them :o I find the texture is really solid and hard when done that way!!! Whereas if you just drop them into a casserole mmmm they're so fluffy!!!
      (The Boil Up is dished into bowls and eaten with buttered white bread, and oddly often tomato sauce/ketchup is squirted over it all, haha)

    My grandmother did drop biscuits in her chicken and dumplings. Confession: I bought an Instant Pot over a year ago and have been afraid to use it. I saw a pressure cooker explode in our kitchen when I was a little girl, but I think I'm going to be brave and use the IP with this recipe. Your chicken and dumplings looked so good, I can hardly wait to get to the store to get the ingredients.

    Reporting back after making chicken and dumplings in my Instant Pot: They were WONDERFUL! I was the one who had been afraid to use my IP. I followed your recipe almost word for word, except I didn't have Lawry's Chicken seasoning so I used Herbs de Provence. I bought that from Costco in a very large bottle for a specific recipe and had never used it since, but it had a lot of the usual chicken seasonings. I put everything in the Instant Pot, turned it on, and stayed in the bedroom until it was finished, just in case it was going to blow up! Guess what? It didn't blow up! And I had two bowls of chicken and dumplings with more dumplings. I think dumplings taste like what pure Grandma-love must taste like. Thank you for the recipe and for the courage to try my Instant Pot!

    I grew up on rolled out square dumplings. The chicken was cut up and boiled in water with seasonings. When chicken was done the pieces were removed from the broth in the pot. The broth was brought to soft rolling boil and the cut dumplings were dropped in to the soft boiling broth. When the dumplings were done the chicken was added back to pot and simmered for a few minutes. Good eating! Yum. Not a big fan of dropped dumplings but I can deal with it. Going to try your method in my instant pot…it looks delicious.

    Going to make a version of this tonight, but with a whole chicken in a large casserole pot in the oven (slow cook for a few hours and drop the dumplings in 20 mins before it comes out of the oven). Served with rice. Everything else will be from your recipe here. When it finally comes will be carved like usual, and the sauce it cooked in will be the gravy ^_^ Trying to find new ways to do the whole chicken as I usually just stuff it (I make the stuffing by hand) and roast it! Need something different tonight :D

    I'm literally standing over my instant pot right now getting ready to make this. I make this all the time but I figured our girl here would have a slightly different take. Whenever I want to try a new spin on something I've made a thousand times before I know that either Camira or Ms. Brenda Dee we'll have a great new twist.🙏💛🇺🇸✌

    I will make this dish look so delicious. I grow up with the dumplings you roll and cut out.

    I made this today. It was amazing and my family loved it. I will try less salt next time but this was so amazing I am going to make it again this week. Thank you.
    Would it be possible to show us how to make a good gumbo or jambalaya?

      Awesome 👏 yes always adjust salt to your own taste. You can remove one of the bouillon cubes to reduce salt
