"Just wanna bring the congregation together, amen" 😂...yesssss ***Just wanted to come back on and say I made this recipe for my family, and they loved it!! Thank you!
As a Canadian, I didnt grow up with dumplings. My mother in law made them later on and did them drop style. Yours looks better ad yes, you made your grandmother proud 😊
I call it chicken and dumplings if it's made with drop dumplings. If it's made with rolled dumplings it's "pot pie" (often made with ham). Pretty sure it's a Pennsylvania Dutch thing. Both are delicious. Nice job!
I grew up in the South & I’m white. Anytime I look for a childhood recipe on TH-cam it is always a black creator who ends up cooking exactly like my grandmother did & my mom does.
I have not had chicken and dumplings like this since my granny passed years ago! I was so mad I never even tried to learn the recipe! I can’t wait to try yours to see if I can get those flavors like what granny use to have!
I know without a doubt that your great grandma is proud of this. Thank you for giving me memories of my own grandmother (we're Appalachian from east Kentucky). She made her dumplings just like this. I smiled the whole time I watched this video!
Also, the impurities/scum are denatured proteins. They add bitterness to the dish and can even make it spoil faster! Good on you for knowing to remove it!
@@jackcarter2767 Wow I never knew that! I am Hungarian and we eat a very clear meat soup here, and my grandma always told me to remove the scum, but I didn't know why I have to. Now I know! thank you so much!💗
She would be proud indeed. I just happened on this video because my daughter's co-worker asked me to make "Chicken N" Dumplins for her. Both of my parents were from Mississippi and were great cooks. My mother owned a restaurant so it was my dad who taught me how to cook. She would be gone before we got up in the morning, and get home after dinner. So, my dad started teaching me when I was 10 and I am now 74. My youngest daughter has a catering business, and my oldest is a wonderful cook too. I guess it's in our DNA. Your dish looks delish. Plus, I love that accent and the energy in your voice. Stay blessed and keep on cooking.
In most of North Carolina, the flat “dumplings” are called pastry so that the dish is called chicken and pastry. The pastry is made with flour, salt and ice water, rolled thin and cut into strips. It is added to the boiled chicken and broth and cooked until done. Salt and pepper are used but no other seasonings are added. We call “dumplings” lumps of dough dropped on top of the chicken and cooked covered until done. The dough is basically biscuits cooked in the broth. In the extreme west of NC, the dropped dumplings are called chicken and pastry and they don’t have anything comparable to our pastry. It is the definition of comfort food!
You definatly made your grandmother proud!!! I fell in love with this style of dumplings many years ago. Bless you for sharing the recipe, going to make it this weekend!!!👍👍👍🤗🤗🤗👏👏👏😋😋😋
Queen ❤ Roll out! You made Grandma proud! You definitely brought back memories. I loved when my Big Mama would make this. God bless you and your family 🙏🏾

Your Great Grandma, Grandma, and your mother (I am sure) are just beaming with pride over you. I am sure you make them proud of you every single day. You are a fabulous cook. I am making Chicken and Dumplings on Monday. I make mine much like you make yours only I do not add milk to mine as I have a 4 + allergy to cow and goat milk. I make drop buiscut dough and it thickens the broth nicely. I do love rolled out buiscut dough dumplings as well. Since I am older now and crippled up with arthritis I have to simplify my cooking from scratch so it is easiest for me to do drop dough. You are an amazing chef and I just want to say I'd be so thrilled to see you win the Chef competition. I voted every day and in the end I did purchase votes for you. I wish the very best for your success. God, Bless Camirra
Girlfriend I got to let you in on another little secret about bones..... When you have a ham bone left over from a ham dinner you cooked. Do you know that same ham bone that you use in your collard greens or turn ups or beans, that same hambone can be refrozen and reused numerous upon numerous times. And it gives the same amount of the season every single time you use it because the flavor comes from the inside of the bone of the marrow inside the bone. I just wanted you to know that little tip because you obviously know that all the flavor comes from the bones of anything also!!! Thank you for sharing this recipe girlfriend I'm going to have to cook it one night! 👍🤗✌️

Rolled out dumplings are by far the best! Yummy That white stuff is the impurities out of the chicken. That’s what I was told anyway. Always skim it out.
Chicken & dumplings. A great southern comfort food to celebrate the weather turning cooler. Having been born & raised in Texas, but spent the majority of my life in Louisiana, I generally gravitate towards Chili, or Gumbo. This year I’m going with chili.
This is the way my MawMaw made chicken and dumplings. We would roll them out in long slices and cut a slit in the middle. We then laid them on wax paper and covered with more wax paper. This is done Saturday night. After Sunday church we would go back to her house and she would get the chicken broth/chicken heated up and when boiling - add dumplings. I’m going to try your dumpling recipe as MawMaw never wrote this recipe down. Thanks so much!!
