Is armor proficiency something that can be gained or increased throughout the game, or is it something that is set from character creation?
There are ways to gain it later on in the game with feats, or you DM may allow you to train for a period of time. But the most sure thing is to get to level 4 and unlock the feat lightly/moderately/heavily armored to gain proficiency
